USING THE DS409SLIM
The next step is signing into the Disk Station Manager software.
Having a look at the version number of the software revealed that it was 2.0-0843, which I know has been updated to version 2.3 – Synology Release DiskStation Manager 2.3 Firmware Update
There are two main views – EzSetup Mode, which gives you the basics.

So I figured that before I did anything at all, I should go and upgrade the firmware,
so off I went to the website, selected the firmware (shown as DSM) and started the update process.
You get information on the progress of the update, which is reassuring.
There is quite a long reboot time after the update – so be patient.
So with that now completed, the next job was to create a volume on the disks.

The only thing you really need to decide on is which volume type you want to use.
