PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
USING THE 1005PE
The desktop is a standard Windows 7 desktop with a lovely background. You will notice at the top of the screen there is a little pull down menu with additional features on called the Eee Dock.
My biggest hang up on this netbook is the fact that no matter how careful I was using it, I always managed to get fingerprints all over it. Now this isn’t unexpected, but the colour of the netbook meant that every single fingerprint and smudge showed up quite a bit.
I quite liked the multi-touch pad and it was very easy to use.
There is also a feature called Express Gate with offers near-instant access to the Internet rather than having to load Windows and going through the usual motions to get access.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The battery life on the 1005PE is amazing – I kept getting over 9 hours every time I used it. I am sure that if I tweaked some of the settings I could get more out of it. This comes down to the Super Hyrbrid Engine energy management technology.
As with the 1005HA, if you are in the market for a good netbook, and one with a really good battery life then you should certainly consider the 1005PE.
This is the first Pineview netbook ,and to be honest, I didn’t really notice any real difference between this on the 1005HA, although I didn’t have them running against each other so perhaps that might be some difference. I am sure over time that this will change and you will notice a difference with the Pineview netbooks.
Cost wise the 1005PE ships for around £300 in the UK and $350 in the US, but as per normal doing a search will often find a better deal.

To deal with the finger prints car wax helps. I ended up putting a skin on mine. WHS will not restore a backup directly on an EEE netbook. Even with the correct network drivers I can not restore. I ended up putting the drive in another computer and restoring to it, then moving the drive back to the EEE. With the 1005 you have to take the netbook apart to access the drive. Really a pain in the ___.
thanks for the tip Kevin – I cant say I tried to do a restore.
next one I get I will give it a go. i seem to remember something in the bios you might need to change first?

HI Andrew,
You know what struck me as funny? A DVD with software for a machine that doesn't have an optical drive 🙂 Yes I know that netbooks are supposed to be companion system but not everyone has that. I helped a friend buy a netbook and it is the only system she owns. She simply uses a the netbook as it was designed for, internet, email and so on.
On to my questions. What is on this DVD, the OS and or just crapware? Speaking of crapware is there any of value or just a lot of it? Lastly how much would have cost Asus to put this software on a flash drive? Seems like the smart way to go to me.

hey buddy
Yep, that is funny, i was going to make a comment in the review but decided not to bother.
Whenever I use my netbook, I just copy any files over the network or via USB, and it works for me.
As for the DVD, it is a Windows 7 Starter Edition resource DVD. I didnt bother to look at it before I sent it back to Asus because usually these DVDs are of little to no value.
I agree, it would have been so much better to have included a flash drive in the box!
To be honest, whenever I get a new laptop, notebook, desktop, whatever, the first thing I do is to format the drive and install a clean OS on it – only way to be sure to get rid of the crapware.
