Suikoden I and II: Out Today

0

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. today releases its classic Suikoden and Suikoden II titles digitally via PlayStation Network, following huge demand from fans of the role-playing series.

Both games are regarded as classics of the role-playing genre, with Suikoden originally released for PlayStation in 1997 and Suikoden II in 2000. They form the first two installments of a six-game series, with Suikoden following an unlikely hero as he attempts to locate the 108 Stars of Destiny, that are essential if he is to free his homeland.

suikoden

Suikoden’s hero, who can be named by the player, is the son of the Great General, Teo McDohl. With his Father summoned to the front in Northlands, the player begins the game undergoing guard training in Gregminster. An old friend charges the player with protecting the Rune of Life and Death, one of the 27 ‘True Runes’ that govern the world, but circumstances then force the hero to flee the capital. He duly encounters a rebel band and embarks on a mission to find the Stars of Destiny – comrades needed to restore peace to the land, and to save the home they love.

Suikoden II expands the story via familiar themes and centres on an orphan called Hero, his friend Jowy and his orphan sister, Nanami. This unlikely trio find themselves in the middle of a war between the Highland Kingdom and the City States. Together, the three heroes embark on a journey that will question their preconceptions of life, society and war as they gather the updated 108 Stars of Destiny – a new collection of acquaintances that will prove vital in their quest.

As the quest begins, the three friends will face potentially life-and-death decisions that force the player to make tough choices, while the game’s celebrated story takes twists and turns and adapts to the decisions the player makes. The trio will also be forced to go into battle as they progress, with combat consisting of a dynamic battle style where multiple team members or enemies can attack simultaneously. Suikoden II also offers players a unique magic rune and skills system that encourages players to perform combat moves with strategy in mind.

Some 18 years after the first game’s debut, Suikoden and Suikoden II return as part of the new PSOne Classic games collection for PlayStation 3, PSP, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV.

Havoc DLC for Advanced Warfare gets PS3,PS4 & PC date

0

Havoc, first DLC pack for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC on 26th February.  Packed to the brim with content, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Havoc includes four new, epic multiplayer maps, access to the versatile AE4 directed energy assault rifle, the AE4 Widowmaker custom variant, plus an exciting all-new cooperative mode called Exo Zombies.

COD AW_Havoc_Drift Environment

Havoc’s four new, exotic and diverse multiplayer maps are set around the globe and are tailor-made for players to unleash their exoskeleton’s abilities:

  • Core: Deploy to the Gobi desert where the ravaged ruins of a nuclear fusion plant set the stage for a high-octane warzone. Take down enemies through the wreckage in long-range combat or get up-close and personal in the tunnels surrounding the central turbine. Activate decontamination drones using the map-based scorestreak to help clean out the competition.
  • Urban: Prepare yourself for brutal, high-speed combat in Dallas Ward 3, a future mega structure, funneling players into a close-quarters free-for-all. This modular compound’s verticality unleashes the exoskeleton’s capabilities. Stay focused during the timed event as blast doors alter the map’s flow and sightlines.
  • Sideshow: In the shadow of Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, this abandoned inn’s open layout amplifies its creep factor. Blast your way through the clown inn with close-quarters battles or use long-range site-lines from the mining facilities and natural terrain. Use the map-based scorestreak to activate the lights, music, and magic of the clown marquee and rain down a barrage of rainbow smoke-trailed cannonballs.
  • Drift: An idyllic ski resort high in the Rocky Mountains is transformed into a festive high-altitude playground, perfect for an all-out firefight. Make your way to the highly contested over watch in the glass observation deck or take a ride on the carousel to deliver 360 degrees of carnage. Players can use the map-altering timed event to their advantage as an avalanche of snow and debris disorients players, intensifying the battle.

Havoc includes a new cooperative experience, Exo Zombies.  Featuring a story told through the eyes of four employees of the Atlas corporation and played by a celebrity cast consisting of John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, RED, Burn After Reading), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow), Rose McGowan (Planet Terror, Scream), and Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Wolf of Wall Street), Exo Zombies ushers in a new breed of zombies and a truly unique experience, all included first in the Havoc DLC Pack.

The actors provide their voice over and likeness in a dark and cinematic adventure new to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. These four performers help enlist players into a world where a DNA bioweapon unexpectedly spawns a bloodthirsty, ravenous mutant horde infecting a secret Atlas research facility and sending personnel running for their lives. Following a failed evacuation, four survivors, un-trained and underprepared, must face the most vicious mutations ever unleashed.

Using the PB287Q Monitor

The power and the other connectors are at the rear of the monitor behind a removable plastic strip. I found it easier to rotate the screen itself to fit the cables I wanted to use.

CDW Review - Asus PB287Q 4K Monitor - 34

I connected the monitor via DisplayPort to my Windows 8.1 PC which has a GeForce GTX 680 graphics card in it. Windows and the GeForce software immediately picked up the monitor, however I noticed that it was only offering me a refresh rate of 29 or 30Hz even though DisplayPort should give me up to 60Hz (if you are using HDMI then 30Hz is your maximum).

CDW Review - Asus PB287Q 4K Monitor - 38

A quick bit of checking revealed that the monitors DisplayPort Stream setting was on DP 1.1. When I changed that to DP 1.2 60Hz was selectable.

The menu system on the monitor is very easy to use and includes various modes and other settings.

Final Thoughts

The monitor comes packaged in its box very securely and only took a few moments to put together. I liked that the only thing I had to do was fit the stand and hand twist a screw! Once attached it felt very sturdy and secure.

One of the things that drew me to this monitor was the 3 possible connections – 2 HDMI (one of which being MHL) and a DisplayPort connector. For those people with multiple devices they would like to connect to the monitor having more than a single port makes it very useful, and tidy to just everything connected and use an input selector to switch between whatever is connected. And the inclusion of PIP is also very useful, so well done Asus on that front. The ports are fairly easy to access, just pop away the plastic covering and that’s it – although as I mentioned I found it easier to rotate the screen to fit the cables.

All of the on-screen menu options and functions are accessibly via a series of buttons located on the rear of the monitor. They are easy to use although it takes a little getting used to. The menu selections appear quickly so its easy to select what you want.

You can adjust the height of the monitor on stand with very little effort – I found that monitor was at the perfect height for my desk by just extending it all the way up. The viewing angles are great as well, you can choose between –5 degress and 20 degrees. If you need anything different to the viewing angle or the height you could always mount the monitor. You can also pivot the monitor so that it’s vertical if that’s your preference.

The monitor has a number of different modes that include all the things you would expect to find such as brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc, but there is also a mode called Splendid, which enables you to choose a setting for the monitor depending on what you are viewing. For example, there is a Game Mode for the gamers out there, and even a Standard Mode if you are just doing things like emails and word processing. The best thing to suggest is to try each of these modes and see which suits both your environment and whatever it is you are displaying. All of the modes work very well and I found myself swapping between them more than I thought I would.

Playing 4K games on the monitor, or displaying 4K video content was superb – the quality and clarity is striking, and going back to non-4K you can really see the difference. The very low input lag is a very important feature if you are wanting this for gaming.

The monitor also has in-built speakers, which get the job done, but don’t expect anything superb from them though. There is also a headphone socket to for connecting up your headphones if you dont want to use the speakers. Personally I stayed with my existing speaker setup but it was a useful addition though.

Overall I was really impressed with the PB287Q and can highly recommend it as a great monitor to jump into 4K with, especially if you want to do 4K gaming!

The Asus PB287Q 4K Monitor is available now from Ebuyer for £449.99.
