Whether you are vying to be recognised as one of Europe’s best singers, or simply enjoy a private sing-along with friends at home, prepare to give your vocal chords a workout when Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND launches for Wii U on 4th October as a free download on Nintendo eShop.
Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND is a karaoke application with a formidable song catalogue, featuring a launch line-up of 1500 songs by some of the world’s most recognised artists, and spanning a wide range of musical genres. The application brings the classic Japanese karaoke box experience to your home, putting the music choice literally into the palm of your hands via the Wii U GamePad, which acts as the catalogue to browse songs and create playlists, as well as doubling up as a microphone.
To fully enjoy Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND, you must have a broadband internet connection when playing the application. In addition, getting started will require purchasing a one hour (£1.79), 24 hour (£4.49), or 30 day ticket (£13.49) – via an in-game ‘Ticket Purchase’ icon linked to Nintendo eShop – in order to perform songs from the extensive online catalogue, while users without a ticket can still open the application and browse songs, build playlists, and customise in-game features. However, as a promotion from launch, and for those wanting to get to grips with Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND before buying a full ticket, a free one hour trial ticket will be available to redeem via Nintendo eShop after the application has been downloaded.
As an application intended for both karaoke veterans and novices alike, Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND offers three different scoring modes outside of the regular karaoke setup, plus a Karaoke Battle mode whereby up to 10 friends divided into two teams can compete face to face in a ‘sing-off’ over a pre-defined number of rounds. In the Standard Rating mode, at the end of each song a user will receive a score out of 100 based on how close the performance was to the original song. Meanwhile, in the In-Depth Rating mode, users receive a detailed breakdown of their performance, focusing on the six different areas of melody, timing, smoothness, technique, vibrato, which refers to the slight up and down modulation of pitch when sustaining a long note, and glissando, which is the technique of starting a new line by singing the note just below the one shown, slightly before it begins.
The third mode, Online Rating, is where the competitive aspect begins! In this mode, users are scored in the same way as the In-Depth Rating mode, but each performance of any song in the catalogue is compared to other users around Europe who have sung that same song. With your current ranking flashing up during key points of the song, including your final rank – plus score – for the whole performance at the end, you can see how you fare against fellow performers across Europe. If you do reach the hallowed position of the top three in an overall ranking for a particular song, you will be displayed in a league table visible to all users across the continent. But make sure to use the Miiverse button on-screen to capture your position and show it off to friends on Miiverse while you can – with the ranking system ongoing you never know for how long you’ll remain in that position!
Whilst you sing, your Mii character takes centre stage on-screen, with users able to customise the environment in which they perform. Aside from a recording studio setting, you can select your Mii to perform in an Arena, a Festival, or a Club, with the ability to personalise everything from the colour of the speakers to the smoke effects mid-song. Also fully available from launch will be an array of costumes to deck out your Mii in clothing which may reflect the genre of your playlist or simply your musical tastes.
Prepare to test your vocal chords against other singers across Europe or simply enjoy the classic karaoke box experience at home with friends when Wii Karaoke U by JOYSOUND launches for Wii U on 4th October as a free download on Nintendo eShop. With an initial launch line-up of 1500 songs, get ready to have an entire song catalogue in the palm of your hand via the Wii U GamePad!

Apple has announced iPhone 5s, the most forward-thinking iPhone yet, featuring an all-new A7 chip, making iPhone 5s the world’s first smartphone with 64-bit desktop-class architecture for blazing fast performance in the palm of your hand. iPhone 5s redefines the best smartphone experience in the world with amazing new features all packed into a remarkable thin and light design, including an all-new 8 megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash and introducing Touch ID™, an innovative way to simply and securely unlock your phone with just the touch of a finger. iPhone 5s comes with iOS 7, the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone, engineered for 64-bit technology and featuring hundreds of great new features, including Control Center, Notification Center, improved Multitasking, AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and iTunes Radio.
“iPhone 5s is the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world, delivering desktop class architecture in the palm of your hand,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5s sets a new standard for smartphones, packed into its beautiful and refined design are breakthrough features that really matter to people, like Touch ID, a simple and secure way to unlock your phone with just a touch of your finger.”
The all-new A7 chip in iPhone 5s brings 64-bit desktop-class architecture to a smartphone for the first time. With up to twice the CPU and graphics
performance, almost everything you do on iPhone 5s is faster and better than ever, from launching apps and editing photos to playing graphic-intensive games—all while delivering great battery life. Apple also engineered iOS 7 and all the built-in apps to maximize the performance of the A7 chip. iPhone 5s is the best mobile gaming device with access to hundreds of thousands of games from the App Store℠, the A7 chip’s 64-bit architecture and support for OpenGL ES version 3.0. iPhone 5s delivers incredibly rich and complex visual effects, previously only possible on Macs, PCs and gaming consoles.
Every iPhone 5s includes the new M7 motion coprocessor that gathers data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass to offload work from the A7 for
improved power efficiency. Developers can also access new CoreMotion APIs that take advantage of M7, so they can create even better fitness and activity apps that go well beyond what other mobile devices offer. The M7 motion coprocessor continuously measures your motion data, even when the device is asleep, and saves battery life for pedometer or other fitness apps that use the accelerometer all day.
iPhone 5s introduces Touch ID, an innovative way to simply and securely unlock your iPhone with just the touch of a finger. Built into the home button, Touch ID uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image of your fingerprint and intelligently
analyze it to provide accurate readings from any angle. Setting up Touch ID to recognize your fingerprint is easy, and every time you use it, it gets better.
The Touch ID sensor recognizes the touch of a finger so the sensor is only activated when needed, preserving battery life. All fingerprint information is encrypted and stored securely in the Secure Enclave inside the A7 chip on the iPhone 5s; it’s never stored on Apple servers or backed up to iCloud. Touch ID
can also be used as a secure way to approve purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store or iBooks Store.
iPhone 5s makes it even easier to take great photos with the world’s most popular camera. The all-new 8 megapixel iSight camera features a larger f/2.2
aperture and a new, larger sensor with 1.5μ pixels for better sensitivity and low-light performance, resulting in better pictures. These improvements, along with the Apple-designed image signal processor in the A7 chip and the new Camera app in iOS 7, provide up to two-times faster auto-focus, faster photo capture, automatic image and video stabilization, and better dynamic range. iPhone 5s introduces the new True Tone flash—the world’s first for any camera—that variably adjusts color and intensity for over 1,000 combinations, so photos taken with a flash appear more natural. iPhone 5s also includes a new Burst Mode, Slo-Mo video with 120 fps, a new FaceTime HD camera for better low-light performance and audio-only FaceTime calls with iOS 7.
iPhone 5s features a remarkable thin and light, precision-crafted design that customers around the world love, including an anodized aluminium body with
diamond cut chamfered edges, a stunning 4-inch Retina display and glass inlays. iPhone 5s is available in three gorgeous metallic finishes including gold, silver and space grey. To complement iPhone 5s, Apple designed premium leather cases in six rich colours—beige, black, blue, brown, yellow and
(RED)—with soft, colour-matched microfiber lining.
iPhone 5s makes it even easier to connect to high-speed networks with support for up to 13 LTE wireless bands, more than any other smartphone in the world. With download speeds up to 100 Mbps², you can browse, download and stream content even faster. iPhone 5s includes dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support for up to 150 Mbps and Bluetooth 4.0. iPhone 5s delivers an amazing 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks, up to 10 hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi and LTE networks and up to 8 hours on 3G networks, and up to 10 hours of video playback and up to 40 hours of audio playback.
iPhone 5s comes with iOS 7, the most significant iOS update since the original iPhone, engineered to support the A7 chip’s 64-bit architecture, the new iSight
camera and Touch ID fingerprint sensor. iOS 7 features a stunning new user interface, completely redesigned with an elegant colour palette, distinct,
functional layers and subtle motion that make it feel more alive. iOS 7 has hundreds of great new features, including Control Centre, Notification Centre,

“iPhone 5c is everything iPhone 5 was and more, in an all-new design packed with great features,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5c is designed with a beautiful polycarbonate enclosure that looks and feels so solid in your hand.”
iPhone 5c features an all-new design crafted from a single, hard-coated polycarbonate body with a steel reinforced frame for a solid, sturdy feel. The
steel frame holds the internal components and also doubles as the iPhone 5c’s multiband antenna. The enclosure is one continuous and seamless structure that is finished with a hard coat for a durable and incredibly glossy surface. To complement the all-new iPhone 5c design, Apple created soft, matte,
microfiber-lined cases in a very intentional contrast to the glossy, hard coat finish. These sleek silicone cases with unique circular patterns let splashes
of color show through, and with five iPhone 5c colors and six cases to choose from, you can mix and match for dozens of fun combinations.

Ubisoft have released a brand new behind the scenes live action trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag.
To capture the true values of the brand: authenticity, idealism, and exploration, Ubisoft and Sid Lee have emphasized the darker aspects of liberty and the brutal struggle to break free from the restrictions of society. Set during the assault of a Spanish Galleon, the film showcases one of these struggles, as the pirates strike a blow against the Spanish Empire.
Starting in the serenity of the water, the camera rises vertically, passing through different levels of the Galleon. Each new level decides the fate of the soldiers, but it also reveals something else, the struggle for freedom. The further up the galleon, the closer we get to the ultimate liberty, symbolized by Edward, standing on the top of the mast.
Adam Berg, a multi-award winning director who has worked with Nike, Ikea and Philips, directed the film. His vision and attention to detail brought each scene not just authenticity, but also real tension. From lowering a whole section of the ship under the water, the wild fights of the stuntmen and explosions on the deck, the film was created as real as possible, without any short cuts.
The overall production has been directed by MPC, a key actor in the Hollywood industry who has produced, amongst other, the special effects of Prometheus. Revealed on August the 21st in the 90’’ version, the movie has evolved to a 60’’ format.
I also recently interviewed Ashraf at E3:
I got some hands-on playtime with Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag at Gamescom this week, so stay tuned for my thoughts soon.

To celebrate the launch of the new Ultra HD 9 Series TV, Toshiba has commissioned new research revealing the nation’s favourite TV historical footage.
Neil Armstrong taking his first steps on the moon as the nation’s favourite historical TV footage with a third of Brits saying they would love to watch this broadcast moment again in better quality.
Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation and Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech also featured within the top five broadcast moments the nation would
like to re-watch in high quality if they had the chance.
England’s World Cup win in 1966 was named as the most ‘patriotic’ historical broadcast moment.
One small step for man, one giant leap for Neil Armstrong – First steps on the moon voted as the nation’s favourite historical TV footage
. A third of Brits voted the 1969 Moon Landing as the footage they would most like to watch in ‘Ultra High Definition’ quality

. Despite milestone anniversaries, Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation and Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech footage missed out on the top spot
. England’s 1966 win against West Germany at Wembley named as the most ‘patriotic’ historical broadcast moment
New research out today reveals Neil Armstrong taking his first steps on the moon as the historical TV footage Brits would most love to see replayed in
Ultra High Definition (UHD) quality – 44 years since the original footage was first broadcast live to the world.
The research, commissioned to mark the launch of Toshiba’s new Ultra HD 9 Series TV, revealed that more than a third of nostalgic Brits (34 per cent)
would like to re-watch the moon landing again in modern day detail, while England’s momentous win at the final in 1966 taking second place, with 13 per
cent of the vote.
With the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech this year and the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation, it may come as no
surprise that the nation has also voted this footage within the top five moments they would like to watch again, if it was shown in Ultra HD quality.
Top 5 historic TV broadcasts Brits would like to re-watch in high quality:
1. Neil Armstrong taking the first steps on the moon (34 per cent) 2. England beating West Germany in 1966 (13 per cent) 3. Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a
Dream’ speech (nine per cent) 4= Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation (eight per cent) 4= Torvil & Dean winning gold at the Winter Sarajevo Olympics (eight
per cent) 5. Fall of the Berlin Wall (six per cent)
Our love affair with football shows no sign of slowing down, with the research revealing England’s 1966 win as the historical broadcast moment the nation felt
most ‘patriotic’ about. This was closely followed by Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, with more than one in ten sentimental Brits (13 per cent) choosing this Royal moment as their most patriotic memory.
However, these two moments divided the nation, with less than one in ten women (nine per cent) voting for England’s win, compared to almost a fifth of men (17 per cent). In contrast, just five per cent of men were keen to re-live footage of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, compared to more than double the
amount of women (12 per cent).
Tarek Boudour, Senior Marketing Manager at Toshiba UK, said: “It is interesting to see from our research which broadcast moments the nation values most – from famous speeches to winning goals, we are all keen to re-live these culturally-relevant historical events in better quality.
“Our new Ultra HD televisions display four times the resolution of current Full HD TVs. Consumers can catch every single detail, including older footage
that wasn’t produced in UHD resolutions – the TVs are able to intelligently upscale images, displaying them clearer and sharper than has been possible
before.”
The Toshiba 9 Series UHD TVs go on sale in the UK from the week commencing 9th September 2013.
