Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition Out Now

0

Blizzard Entertainment today announced that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition is now available on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

diablo 3 ps4

The console-exclusive Ultimate Evil Edition is filled to the brim with action, adventure, and epic loot—it includes all of the content from Blizzard’s award-winning action role-playing game Diablo III, as well as new features and updates from the critically acclaimed Reaper of Souls expansion, including Adventure Mode, Act V, the Crusader class, leveling to 70, new Legendary loot, new crafting options, and much more. The Ultimate Evil Edition is available now at retail stores and digitally through the PlayStationStore and Xbox Store (Xbox 360 digital version will be available 18th September).

“With the Ultimate Evil Edition, we wanted to create a truly epic action-RPG for current and next-gen systems, so we included all of the latest Diablo III and Reaper of Souls content and added innovative social features like the Nemesis System and Apprentice Mode,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re excited to be delivering the definitive Diablo console-gaming experience to new and returning players, and we can’t wait to see everyone in Sanctuary.”

Crafted for Consoles

The Ultimate Evil Edition takes advantage of the unique features of the console platforms. All four console versions of the Ultimate Evil Edition feature 4-player same-screen and online multiplayer—whether Sanctuary’s heroes are banding together on the same couch or joining the fray via PlayStationNetwork or Xbox Live, Reaper of Souls makes it easy to experience Diablo in the best way possible: with friends.

The Ultimate Evil Edition also adds more ways for players to share their adventures: Apprentice Mode makes it easier than ever to group up with friends; the Nemesis System sends hero-slaying monsters into friends’ games until vengeance is won, and new Player Mail and Player Gift features give players new options for sharing their treasures with allies—because nothing says “friendship” like unwrapping a piece of awesome loot.

In addition, players who fought the forces of evil in the original PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of Diablo III are able to continue their crusade against death, including cross-platform support on next-gen consoles. PS3 characters from the original game can be transferred to the PS3, PS4, or Xbox One version of the Ultimate Evil Edition, and Xbox 360 characters can be transferred to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, or PS4 versions. For more information on exporting your characters’ save files, visit the Diablo III community site.

Join the Crusadewith Reaper of Souls

In Reaper of Souls, the five valiant heroes from Diablo III—Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor, and Wizard—are joined by a new champion: the Crusader. Clad head to toe in fortified armor, the Crusader is an unstoppable force of righteous destruction who channels the power of divine wrath to visit retribution upon his demonic quarry.

Reaper of Souls adds a challenging new act to Diablo III in which players will embark on a dark and perilous journey through terrifying landscapes; explore the legendary city of Westmarch; and slay countless minions, each hell-bent on bringing the players’ heroic quest to a grisly end. The adventure culminates in a climactic confrontation with Malthael, the Angel of Death, whose twisted designs spell ruin for the innocent people of Sanctuary.

In addition to the Crusader hero and Act V, the Ultimate Evil Edition includes a revamp of the game’s loot system, an expanded Paragon progression system for max-level characters, and several other improvements to the Diablo III game experience, including:

  • Adventure Mode: A new game mode that gives players the freedom to go anywhere and slay anything
  • Bounties: Randomized objectives that reward players in new ways for exploring Sanctuary
  • Nephalem Rifts: Fully randomized dungeons offering endless replayability and heaps of loot
  • Level Cap to 70: Formidable new spells and abilities that take players to new heights of power
  • The Mystic: A powerful new artisan who provides heroes with loot-customization options

All of this new content comes with the Ultimate Evil Edition, which players can purchase today at a suggested retail price of £59.99 for the PS4 or Xbox One, or £29.99 for the PS3 or Xbox 360—check with your local retailer for availability.

Players who take the fight for Sanctuary to their big screen TV on the PS3 or PS4 will also enjoy exclusive content based on two popular PlayStation games!

  • The Last of Us Nephalem Rift, a new randomized dungeon level teeming with ravenous creatures modeled after the infamous Stalker, Clicker, and Bloated infected.
  • The Guise of the Colossi, a unique transmogrification plan that unlocks six armour appearances inspired by Shadow of the Colossus.

NETGEAR ReadyNAS 102 Review Part Two: ReadyCloud

The NETGEAR ReadyNAS 102 review continues with this look at the remote access and synching features.  Read on for details!

image_thumb

Part One of my review detailed the installation process.  Part Two continues with a look at the remote access and synching features.

NETGEAR ReadyCloud Overview

ReadyCloud is where NETGEAR included the remote access, synching and administration functions.  Before we being, let’s start with this overview video from NETGEAR that shows off the feature set.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_00jWck4lY%5D

Using READYCloud

The adventure begins by installing ReadyCloud.  This is simple: download the installer, run it and wait until the software is installed!  I ran this program on Windows 7 and Windows 8, and Mac is also supported, as well as Android and IOS devices as well.  Once you install ReadyCloud, you see this icon in your taskbar.

image_thumb1

Click and you’ll see this:

image_thumb3

From here, you can browse files on the NAS, click on your ReadyDROP synch files and get to the Web Admin webpages.  Let’s click on Browse here and see what we get!

image_thumb5

When I installed ReadyDROP, I pointed it at the SD card in this Windows 7 laptop with a 64GB SSD.  I have pictures and documents in this directory and it synchs automatically with every pc with ReadyDROP configured, and of course is backed up to the NAS over the internet or local network, depending on where you are.  Installation was simple and took about 15 minutes and this works flawlessly.

Clicking Browse opens File Explorer and shows you what files are on the NAS.  Here is mine:

image_thumb7

Here is my Hawaii photos that I have on this NAS:

image_thumb10

Clicking on Web Access gives you the normal webpage that allows you to configure the NAS unit.

READYCloud Verdict

This works the same way, whether you are on the local network or over the internet.  This is one of the simplest implementations of remote access that I’ve seen, with access secured via a VPN connection to NETGEAR, you and to your NAS unit.  NETGEAR secures your traffic over the internet and handles all of the dynamic addressing, and no port forwarding is required.  QNAP is close, but this is the best-executed and fastest remote access solution that I’ve reviewed.  Very nice!

Stay tuned for Part Three where I go over media streaming and provide the all-around evaluation!

D-Link DCH-M225 Wi-Fi Audio Extender Review

D-Link was nice enough to send over a DCH-M225 Wi-Fi Audio Extender and a Monopiece speaker to test out with it.  Let’s see how it went!

D-Link was nice enough to send over a DCH-M225 Wi-Fi Audio Extender and a Monopiece speaker to test out with it.  Let’s see how it went!

Product Overview

The D-Link DCH-M225 is designed to extend your Wi-Fi into hard-to-reach zones while providing the ability to connect any speaker.  In essence, as long as you have a speaker with a 3.5mm input jack on it, you can turn it into an AirPlay or PlayTo-compatible speaker while range-extending your Wi-Fi connection.  Here is a good video overview.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_yTDOSPlfk%5D

Specifications

This is a single stream N300 range extender, so it won’t set any speed records.  As it is single-stream, 2.4 GHz connectivity is the only band on offer.

Product Pictures

This is a small form-factor product.  Check out these product shots.

DSC_1011DSC_1012

Installation and Use

The DCH-M225 supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup and also can be set up manually.  I did it both ways; WPS worked OK, and the manual install is easy as well.  To set it up using WPS, simply plug the unit into a wall socket close to your router and wait until the LED on the front turns solid amber.  Then, press the WPS button on the router, and within one minute, press the WPS button on the DCH-M225.  It will communicate with the router and establish a connection, and once done, you’ll see s solid green LED on the range extender.  Then, unplug it and set it up where you need it, and plug a speaker in.  You are now good to go.

The manual installation is also pretty easy to do, and even if you use WPS, you will likely need to hit the admin screens on the product to make tweaks to the settings.  Plug the unit into a wall socket, and wait until the LED turns blinking amber.  Then, open up a web browser (I did all of my installation work in IE11) and point the browser to the address http://linkkap.local./ and you’ll see the following screen.

image_thumb[1]

The admin password is blank, so hit enter.  You’ll want to change that later on and I’ll point out how to do that.  You land at the Current Status screen, as in this screenshot.

clip_image002_thumb[1]

See that green check?  That means that you are connected to the internet.  You will see a red X there on first installation; this is showing connected as I set the unit up using WPS first.  Click on the Setup Wizard box at the top left of the screen and you see this.

clip_image004_thumb[1]

Click Next to start the setup process.

clip_image006_thumb[1]

I want to set this up manually so I choose the second option.  If you choose the first option, you will use WPS to effect the setup.  Anyhow, I chose the second option and clicked Next.

clip_image008_thumb[1]

The DCH-M225 will now scan for available networks.

clip_image010_thumb[1]

I chose one…

clip_image012_thumb[1]

Now it wants the password to connect to the wireless network.

screencap1_thumb[1]

Confirm the name (SSID that will be broadcast) and password and click Next.

clip_image016_thumb[1]

You can change the name here.  I left it alone.

screencap2_thumb[1]

Confirm everything and then click on Save.  You are done and return to the Current Status page.  Now go plug a speaker into the 3.5mm jack and check your Current Status page.

image_thumb[3]

See how Audio Renderer is now lit up?  Click on it.

image_thumb[5]

The DCH-M225 is now showing up as an AirPlay and DLNA target.  I fired up a video file on my Surface Pro 3 and redirected the audio to the speaker.  First, start up the video and get playback going, then swipe in from the right to bring up Charms.  Click on Devices and then select Play and you’ll see your devices, like this:

clip_image020_thumb[1]

I selected the DCH-M225 and the audio was played by the speaker attached to the M225.  Easy as pie…and this worked with the XBOX Music app too!  Nice!  I tested with an Android device (Samsung Galaxy S3) and with an iPad 4th generation and the speaker worked just fine.

Before we get too far, though, I wanted to show you how to change the admin password on the device and how to update firmware.  Head back to our status screen.

image_thumb[7]

See the Management selection in the top right?  Click on it and choose Admin.  You’ll see this screen.

image_thumb[9]

Type in a password in the field marked Password and click on Save.  The unit will reboot and you’ll need to use your shiny new password to get in.  Note that you can also turn on CAPTCHA to augment your authentication.  I opted not to do that.

In order to upgrade firmware, go back to the Current Status page, click on Management and choose Upgrade.  You’ll see this:

image_thumb[11]

Click Check for New Firmware to automatically pull down updates from the internet or if you already have a file, click on Select File.  There was an update available for this unit, and the update was quick and painless, just how I like them!

Under Management, there is also a System tab that allows you to backup and restore settings, restore to factory and to reboot.  Here is the screen.

image_thumb[13]

Performance

Since this is an N300 extender, performance won’t be anything special so I did not run any speed tests.  Suffice to to say that it is plenty of hardware to handle light 2.4 GHz connectivity and streaming music.  I would not try to use it to stream 1080p video content, however.

Overall Evaluation

The D-Link DCH-M225 is a single stream N300 Wi-Fi range extender intended to also connect a speaker to provide an alternative AirPlay or DLNA target for audio.  This is a good choice for a simple-to-install N300 range extender/speaker connection option.  I’d prefer something in this form factor with 5 GHz connectivity, but for what it does, it does it very well.  I award a 5/5 Gold Award.  This product is available at MSRP of $49.99 and I recommend it if you are in the market for a simple range extender and want to connect a speaker for AirPlay or DLNA purposes.

NETGEAR ReadyNAS RN102 Review Part Three: Media and Overall Evaluation

NETGEAR was nice enough to send a ReadyNAS RN102 for review.  Here is Part Three of my review, where I evaluate media streaming and provide an overall evaluation.

RN102 2

NETGEAR was nice enough to send a ReadyNAS RN102 for review.  Here is Part Three of my review, where I evaluate media streaming and provide an overall evaluation.  Part One is here and Part Two is here.

Media Streaming

A basic requirement these days in the NAS space is the ability to serve up media.  I look into two factors:  DLNA and Plex.  The RN102 has DLNA support baked into the firmware, with no additional apps required…and when you define your shares, you can modify the settings on each one to tell ReadyDLNA how to serve up the content.  Here is the overview of the shares that I set up on this device:

image

Let’s drill into the Videos folder.

image

Click on Settings to see what you can modify here.

image

The ReadyDLNA Service Media Type setting is set to Videos, and you can set that for new shares that you create.  The ReadyDLNA service supports the following formats:

  • ReadyDLNA supported music formats (wav, wma, pcm, ogg, mp3, m4a, flac, aac)
  • ReadyDLNA supported photo formats (jpg, jpeg)
  • ReadyDLNA supported video formats (3gp, mp4, wmv, xvid, vob, ts, tivo, mts, mpeg, mpg, mp4, mov, mkv, m4v, m4p, m2t, m2ts, flv, flc, fla, divx, avi, asf)

I tried a mixture of MP4 (h.264 video, AAC3 audio) and WMV files and they all played back flawlessly on PS3, XBOX360, a Sony blu-ray player, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Android devices.  I also streamed M4A audio and JPEG photo formats without issue.  ReadyDLNA is full-featured and easy to configure.

Plex, on the other hand, is a weakness for the ARM-equipped ReadyNAS units.  Plex is advertised as a supported app, and the RN102 does support 0.9.7.28.0 on the server side.  However, the current release of Plex’s server-side application is 0.9.9.14.531, and most of the currently-available mobile apps require 0.9.8.14.  This means that the ARM-based RN102 does not support the server release that is required to run the most recent mobile device apps.

OK, Jim, so what?  Just download the package and side-load it already!  I would, except that Plex has not released a package for ARM on ReadyNAS OS6.  They HAVE released a version of the latest server-side program for ReadyNAS OS6 on Intel, but not on ARM.  I did try sideloading a version of Plex that was built from a Synology package, which requires command-line access to Linux on the box, but that failed for me.

I’ve asked NETGEAR when they plan on releasing the ARM OS6 server-side update, and in fact, the delay between the initial installation post and this one was largely caused by my desire to get an answer on this issue.  NETGEAR tells me that they plan on releasing an updated server version of Plex, but have no firm dates.  The upshot here is that the RN102 does not adequately support Plex today and there does not appear to be a clear path to adding that support.  To me, this is a big enough deal to cause me to buy another ARM-based NAS, since the competition supports Plex and I use it heavily.  This gap is enough to deduct one star from the overall evaluation.  For you, if Plex is not a requirement, this should be no big deal.

Overall Evaluation

The NETGEAR ReadyNAS RN102 is a two-bay ARM-based NAS unit with excellent DLNA support, a very easy installation process and class-leading remote access without manual port forwarding.  When you add in advanced time-based versioning control, support for ISCSI, RSYNC, and WordPress, you get a compelling value offer.  Cloud backup is limited to ReadyVault and DropBox, though, and the lack of current Plex support detracts from an otherwise-stellar product.  Overall, would I buy one?  If I did not need Plex, then yes, this is an excellent NAS choice.  If Plex is a requirement, I’d have to look elsewhere for now.  Overall, I award the ReadyNAS RN102 a 4/5 Silver Award.

Review : Pokemon Trading Card Game: XY Furious Fists

IMG_7564

When I was growing up in secondary school I was like most youngsters that collected the original Pokémon trading cards. However, I didn’t learn how to play it the proper way until late last year when I went into full Pokémon mode with the release of their latest game X & Y. After acquiring my first grass type starter deck from the Kalos Region I once again found that love again and need to collect, or should I say catch em all. Every few months a newer expansion pack is released to keep the trading card game fresh, up to date and most importantly offers you a chance to collect a shiny Pokémon card to add to your every growing collection. So when I was asked to review the latest Furious Fists expansion packs I was instantly onboard and have loved every minute of it.

What is this Pokémon Trading Card game?

Whether you’re a fan of the TV series, an avid Pokémon trainer that plays the video game or just a lover of the Japanese pocket monsters you’ll somewhat already know that battling them is one of the primary roles. The trading card game is the battling side to the ever-growing Pokémon franchise with the obvious opportunity to trade for better cards. Once you’ve laid out the playmat to battle on you’ll divide your deck of 60 cards into a Prize Card section where you collect up to 6 cards after defeating your opponent’s individual Pokémon, your Bench where you line up 5 of your own Pokémon ready to battle with, your Deck pile where you draw new cards from, your Discard Pile where used cards and defeated Pokémon go, and most importantly your Active Pokémon section where you fight. The system works similarly to how the series and the game works. You only can defeat 6 Pokémon, items can boost your team and you even can to be tactical with whatever cards you randomly deal yourself.

IMG_7556

What is Furious Fists?

With most successful franchises out there releasing a sequel or an expansion is what the fans would always want. Something to keep the interest, a new talking point and most importantly renewing this brand to keep fans happy and even bring in new players. Furious Fists in an expansion to the XY set of cards with 2 theme decks and multiple expansion packs. The 2 theme decks is the Dark Hammer deck with the mascot Pokémon Pangoro, the fighting panda, and the Enchanted Echo deck with the mascot Pokémon Sylveon, the fairy evolution of Eevee.

Dark Hammer consists of Pokémon that are hard hitters, fighting types and dark types. Featuring cards such as the Pokémon Mienshao who pulls a tricky hit-and-run as Pangoro hammers away at your opponent’s deck. Landorus keeps your team powered up with energy and Machamp’s Fighting Fury Ability can boost your attacks. To name but a few from this deck of 60 you’ll certainly be pulling out all the stops.

Enchanted Echo consists of Pokémon that are more likely to disrupt your opponent’s strategy as this deck of fairy types isn’t as innocent as it seems. Damage prevention moves from Clefable and Accelgor plus the healing powers of Victreebel and the Potion item, this deck balances out the fight to whatever the opponent throws at you.

Is Furious Fists for you?

The accessibility into playing with this pack doesn’t change if you’ve already learned how to play the Trading Card Game itself. It offers more to choose from and the initial game created years ago hasn’t been changed. This means that the expansion will appeal to anyone that’s previous played and the learning curve for the new cards is null. Literally you can play out of the box on release.

The quality of the components within each theme deck and the expansion is top of the range, sturdy and the shiny cards always gleam, just how a rare card should. The deck box, damage counters and metallic coin are built to last and endured the beating I gave them from the battles I had during my review.

The newer cards weren’t overpowering the older cards meaning you can incorporate older cards into the game. I purposely played with my older deck from last year against a Furious Fist deck and still managed to have a great match. I threw in a few expansion packs into the mix too and it complimented what cards I originally played with and still didn’t unbalance the game. So if you have your older cards around don’t think that they’re now redundant, dust them off and get back into the action.

Verdict

I love playing anything Pokémon related but the latest Furious Fist expansions have rekindled my excited to play and trade more. Each of the 2 theme decks come with a decent amount of cards, evolutions, items and are all balanced to ease you into battling straight away. I’m pleased with the individual booster packs for Furious Fists offering me some pretty awesome and rare cards and now I must collect more. I’ll urge any Pokémon fans out there who were like me, a collector of the card but not the player of the card game, to try out the game and see it’s actually as fun as the video game battling itself. I, for one, am excited for the next expansion but until then I must become the Pokémon master, of the cards I already own that is.

About Gwent

Gwent is a fast-paced card game that can be played within The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on every platform. Invented by dwarves and perfected over centuries of tavern table play, Gwent is a game of initial simplicity and ultimate depth, something beloved by both road-weary travellers during long

nights around the campfire and elegant nobles looking to liven up dragging dinner parties. The game is about the clash of two armies locked in mortal struggle on a battlefield where the players are the leaders and the cards their forces. With four different factions offering unique combat styles and endless paths to victory, Gwent is every adventurer’s first choice when it comes to one-on-one card-based dueling. Take risks and think on your feet, strategize and deliver cunning combos, use potent magic and mighty hero cards and be the last one standing on the field of honour!

Key Features:

– Over 150 unique playing cards

– 4 distinct factions: the mighty and cunning Nilfgaardian Empire, the brave Northern Realms and their siege weapons, the agile and devious Scoia’tael, and the brutal monsters of No Man’s Land.

– Powerful spells allow players to control the weather and affect units on the battlefield.

– An array of combat styles caters to individual playstyles: close range with heavy knights, long range with skilled archers or artillery with powerful siege weapons.

– Powerful hero cards, unique to each faction.
