Elite: Dangerous finally launches

0

Frontier Developments plc has today launched Elite: Dangerous, the fourth game in the groundbreaking, genre-defining Elite series.

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth in the Elite series of games, following on from the seminal 1984 Elite, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell, 1993’s Frontier: Elite 2, and 1995’s Frontier: First Encounters.

Elite: Dangerous was crowdfunded via Kickstarter and Frontier Developments’ own website, beginning in November 2012. Throughout 2014, backers have had access to the game’s Alpha, Beta and Gamma stages.

The story begins today with the Empire in disarray. The Emperor is sick and a bitter fight for succession has already begun. The Federation has a weak President, and some frontier States are looking to leave it.

Players are free to throw themselves into the story wholeheartedly, participate a little, or not at all. How players choose to respond will directly affect the outcome of the current events, and the unfolding story beyond.

Elite: Dangerous is available now at elitedangerous.com/store for £39.99 ($59.99, €49.99).

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Summer 2015.

Developed by Ninja Theory, DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition will include the original stylish action game, all previously released downloadable content, including the “Vergil’s Downfall” campaign as well as brand new modes and additional gameplay features, making this the ultimate offering for Devil May Cry fans.

New to DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, players will be able to play as Dante’s twin brother himself in Vergil’s Bloody Palace Mode. For an extra depth of challenge, players will be able to try out the added Gods Must Die and Must Style Mode as well as Hardcore Mode, which has been designed to play more like the classic Devil May Cry series. DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition players will also receive new Dante and Vergil costumes inspired by classic Devil May Cry character designs. The game’s high quality production values will run at a stunning 1080p and smooth 60 fps across both next-gen consoles.

Balancing and improvements based on fan feedback from DmC Devil May Cry are being implemented into DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, as well as modifiers that can be turned on at various stages, including Turbo Mode which allows players to increase the speed of play for even faster, more intense combat. Additional leaderboards, trophies and achievements will be included, as well as social features, taking advantage of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One functionality.

DmC Devil May Cry sees Dante’s origin story being retold against a contemporary backdrop. Dante is a young man with no respect for authority or society in general. He knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. Combat and movement throughout the game are influenced by Dante’s ability to call upon both angel and demon abilities, dramatically affecting the gameplay style.

pes 2015

As part of KONAMI’s commitment to continually enhance PES 2015, the free download will be automatically implemented on 16th December. With PES 2015 exclusively featuring the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League competitions, players will be able to access official recreations of FC Basel 1893, Besiktas, FC Bate Borisov and NK Maribor, all of whom are featuring in this year’s tournaments. All four teams will be fully licensed in the game, including correct kits, team rosters and iconography.

The new update adds 73 new player faces to the game. These cover key players from all over the globe, including renowned stars such as José Callejón, Aaron Ramsey, Karim Bellarabi and Gerard Deulofeu, and upcoming stars such as England left-back Luke Shaw, Spanish star Iker Muniain and Portugal’s Rúben Neves, all of whom are focal to the continuation of the PES 2015 Mantra: ‘The Pitch is Ours.’ All 73 updated players have been selected following community requests from all over the world, and will be joined by ever more additions throughout the year.

These points can be spent on building a new team, and players can also be added via micro-transactions. The 73 enhanced players are ranked within the world’s best established and upcoming stars, and will feature in upcoming myClub events.

The myClub mode has also been further bolstered with Event Competitions, giving users new ways to accumulate points for their team. A new panel will be added to the main menu screen, and Event Competitions will be open for limited times only. Players will be matched online, in one-off or tournaments and a scalable selection of rewards will be given to the winning players. A tournament against CPU-controlled users is also available to all players, with players matched against teams of similar ability as theirs and earning various rewards for successfully winning the tournament.

The second update file also sees KONAMI faithfully recreate four new stadia for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Estádio do Morumbi, Saitama Stadium, El Monumental and Estádio Mineirão perfectly reproduced, with the latter exclusive to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Other additions to the main game include new boots and balls, with 10 new boots styles showcasing the latest styles from adidas, Umbro and Mizuno, while the adidas Pro Ligue 1 and the Conext 15 Official Match Balls are also added.

Additional kit updates and enhancements include those of the River Plate, Estudiantes de La Plata and the German national side. Smaller improvements have also been made to the Squad lists within myClub with other small enhancements also made.

‘The Pitch is Ours’ is the ethos that dominates PES 2015, the aim has been to recreate the drama and tension associated with a vital match. PES 2015 marks a concerted return to core PES values of total control, utterly responsive controls and unrestricted gameplay, where the user has complete control over how they play. Every pass, shot or run is finely balanced to give maximum player satisfaction within PES 2015’s on-field action.

PES 2015 is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.

Review: Tales of the Borderlands Episode 1 Zer0 Sum

Telltale Games have released Episode 1 of Tales of the Borderlands, and here is our spoiler free review.

rf_with-logo_1920x1080

This is how Telltale describes the game:

Like all good tales, there’s more than one side to a story. Especially one about a Vault key, the Hyperion Corporation, bandits, loot, gangsters, Vault Hunters, secret Atlas tech, explosions, getaways, extortion, betrayal, and mayhem.

Set after the events seen in Borderlands 2, Tales from the Borderlands is about Rhys, a Hyperion company man looking to become the next Handsome Jack, and it’s also about Fiona, a Pandoran con artist out to score the biggest of all swindles.

Lured into danger by a Vault key and all it promises, the unlikely duo are thrown together with a common goal and a huge amount of mistrust. Who is telling the truth, and why is it important?

That’s up to you to decide.

You are Rhys…and you are also Fiona, because like every tale worth telling, there are two…oh, you read that part already? Well, it’s important to remember that there *are* two sides to every story, and you my friend, you will tell this tale, or…tales, through the choices that you make. Your every decision as both Rhys and Fiona will affect the people and world around you: this is a game where YOU are the final author in a brand new Borderlands story set on the unforgiving world of Pandora.

Now I’m both a fan of Telltales other games, in particular The Walking Dead, and also of the Borderlands series from 2K Games and Gearbox, so when I heard about Tales of the Borderlands I couldn’t wait to play it.

Like the description says, you play two different characters – the first one is Rhys, voiced by Troy Baker (I’m not sure when he gets the time to do anything other than record voices for games, but he is very good at it and so its always a pleasure to listen to). As this is a spoiler free review I wont go into too many details about the plot, other than to say that Rhys was due a big promotion at Hyperion and he gets screwed out of it by his arch-nemesis, so he decides to screw him back.

fiona-smash-card

The second character is Fiona, voiced by Laura Bailey. Fiona is a grifter and part way through the episode you switch to playing her. Fiona and Rhys’s story is interwoven and it’s fun to watch them play off each other, but again, I don’t want to give too much away.

The gameplay style is what you would expect from Telltale – you have a number of options to choose from in different situations, and your selections will result in the story changing around you. There are also sections where you have to dodge attacks, and even target enemies (which is a whole heap of fun).

The first thing I noticed when the game started was just how much it felt like a Borderlands game. Now that might sound obvious, but I wasn’t sure if this would be a Telltale game with a Borderlands theme, or a Borderlands game with a Telltale interface. It’s actually the best of both worlds, with a typically insane and funny Borderlands story with all the gameplay you would expect from Telltale. I found the gameplay very smooth and the selections easy to choose, even easier than previous Telltale games.

loaderbot-v2

The graphics are typical Borderlands and I loved the humour. The voices are done really well, and along with Troy and Laura, Nolan North also makes an appearance, as does Dameon Clarke (spoiler – sort of!).

The first episode took about 2 and quarter hours to complete, and I am really looking forward to episode 2 in a few weeks time.

The cost of this episode is just $4.99 USD or equivalent or as part of a Season Pass package for all five episodes for just $24.99 USD or equivalent or less.

If you are a fan of either Telltale’s games or Borderlands, then this is a must for you. Now I just have to wait patiently for episode 2.

If you want to watch the first 30 minutes of episode 1, you can do so here.
