Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island Is Now

Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island expansion is available now exclusively on Xbox One and can be purchased from the Xbox Live Store for £15.99. Forza Horizon 2 VIP owners will receive a 50 percent discount on the expansion, making the price just £7.99 for VIP members.

StormIslandExpansion-ForzaHorizon2-01-WM-jpg

Here’s a breakdown of the new content available with the Storm Island expansion.

Dangerous Beauty

This expansion pack for Forza Horizon 2 features a new location to explore, the mysterious and foreboding Storm Island. It features the most severe weather conditions ever seen in a Forza game, including fierce tropical storms and thick fog that will add an entirely new level of challenge to the game.

Storm Island has been built with the Forza Horizon 2 engine and infused with brand new technology that showcases the beauty of the world. New features like swaying trees in extreme windstorms and the rays of the sun cutting through thick fog bring the adventure of Storm Island to life in ways players have never experienced before.

Action-Packed Fun

The expansion features 90 new events with five new event types players can test their skills in, and all have been designed to bring the most out of both the driver as well as every vehicle in the game. These new events include:

Rampage

Rampage events are point-to-point off-road sprints, where the driver will contend with obstacles and smashables (including the brand new smashable chicanes) before crossing the finish line.

Brawl

Grab your favourite four-wheeled weapon and strap in for these off-road circuit races featuring extreme terrain, lots of obstacles to take advantage of, and new smashables to wreck.

Extreme Cross Country

Fans have played Cross Country events in Forza Horizon 2 but have never played them quite like this. With more extreme elevation changes, a variety of different terrain types, and strong storms to contend with, Storm Island’s Extreme Cross Country races are not for the faint of heart.

Cross Country Circuit

One sprint in a Cross Country race will get players’ heart rates up. But how about multiple laps? In Cross Country Circuit events, players will be taking on those same challenges in multi-lap races that will test both their stamina and skill.

Gauntlet

These point-to-point races are held only at night, and are long and dangerous – with minimal signage to guide players during the race. Just completing a Gauntlet event is challenging enough. Victory will take a special combination of skill, bravery, and luck.

The Adventure Never Stops

In addition to new event types, Storm Island will include new items and locations to explore – including new roads and bonus boards, a brand new Car Meet, new Bucket List challenges, new speed trap and speed zone leaderboards, and additional Rivals events.

Players can head online to discover new content, including four new multilplayer Playground arenas, 20 unique online race routes, six Gauntlet events, three new Showdown events (accessible from the new Storm Island Car Meet location), and five online championship event types including Brawl, Rampage, Extreme Cross Country, Cross Country Circuit, and Mixed events.

The pack also includes five new iconic cars, plus a new barn find car. For players who enjoy upgrading their vehicles, new off-road suspension, tire, and transmission upgrades can be applied to any of Forza Horizon 2’s 200+ cars. In addition, new rally-inspired body kit upgrades have been added for a select number of legendary cars in game.

All of this content, plus 23 new Xbox Live achievements (adding up to 500 gamerscore points) makes the Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island expansion an amazing value for Forza fans.

For more on the Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island expansion, check out the livestream on the official Forza Motorsport Twitch channel, which will be beginning at 7 p.m.  GMT on today (Tuesday, 16th December).

Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island Car Descriptions

2013 Robby Gordon #7 Speed Energy Drink Stadium Super Truck

Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Truck is built to conquer practically any terrain. Gordon started the Stadium Super Truck series in 2012 and won its inaugural championship title in 2013. Modeled after the stadium off-road racing made famous by off-road legend Mickey Thompson, Stadium Super Trucks crash, bash, and jump their way around real-life road courses and unique arena courses.

The trucks are tube frame, full-race vehicles, similar to a trophy truck.

2013 MINI X-Raid All4 Racing Countryman

Since its introduction to the Dakar Rally – the most grueling off-road race in the world – the MINI X-Raid has been the most dominant vehicle in the field. With veteran driver Stephane Peterhansel – aka “Mr. Dakar” – behind the wheel in 2012, the MINI won its first Dakar. Peterhansel came back in 2013 to win again in the MINI. Both years the other three MINIs of the four-car team all placed in the top ten. Built specifically for competition in the Dakar, the MINI X-Raid is all-wheel-drive and is powered by a BMW twin-turbo diesel engine. These rigs are built to withstand the conditions of racing across a multitude of surfaces at speeds in excess of 100 mph, and these ALL4 racing MINIs are bespoke chassis and drive systems.

2014 Ford Ranger T6 Rally Raid

Ford continues its endeavors to win in off-road racing with its 2014 Dakar Rally effort in the Ranger T6 Rally Raid. Drawing on the proven expertise of South African Neal Woolridge, who beat out several American constructors for the chance to build this effort, Ford has gone to great lengths to deliver a true contender for the Dakar. Under the hood is a military dust-proofed 32-valve V8 – a la Ford Mustang – connected to a Sadev six-speed sequential transmission. The body shell resembles a Ranger four-door 4X4 but, underneath, the chassis and suspension are completely custom. Suspension travel and durability are paramount since this truck will be travelling at more than 100 mph across surfaces that most trucks would crawl over.

1981 Ford Fiesta XR2

The smallest of Fords was a success from the moment it was produced in 1976. While not the first front-wheel drive Ford, it is the first widely-selling FWD car for the company. Upon testing the waters with the Fiesta Supersport, Ford built the XR2 which brought a stiffened suspension and a 1.6-liter crossflow Kent engine. Given the already nimble and light base, the nearly 100 horsepower of the XR2 really got the party started.

1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

The Galant VR-4 was the platform that Mitsubishi developed its impeccable AWD system and, in the process, won no less than six rally championships. The VR-4 ignites off the line, cuts into corners, and brakes with precision. The engine develops potent horsepower put to the wheels via a center differential that detects wheel slippage and re-directs power to the axle with the most traction. Four-wheel steering engages at speeds more than 31 mph and turns the rear wheels up to 1.5 degrees to enable optimum turn angle and cornering stability.

Review: Destiny: The Dark Below

0

Just when you started saying “you call that a grind Bungie?!”. I’ve got everything I need and I’ve done all the raids and I’m totally bored with Destiny. Well if that describes you you’re in luck. The Dark Below is the first DLC for Destiny and adds quite a few new features that will, in theory, keep you coming back for more. Even if that’s primarily because all your loot is now worthless. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

The first notable feature is the new Sparrow. I know you’ve all been screaming out for it. A Sparrow that allows you to perform wicked flips. Now when you perform a jump you can roll the sparrow before it lands. It also sports a lovely flame decal that really makes it look like something aimed at kids. I really find the entire thing just so tacky. I haven’t spent as long with my guardian as some but I’ve still invested many, many hours into him and making him look cool. Guardians are serious people who mean business. They’re supposed to be defending against the darkness. A slick black and orange Sparrow with armour plating or a ram or something would fit better. Either way you get a free legendary Sparrow with some nice stats and some useless abilities. Glad I didn’t buy one from the quartermaster.

You also get some nice new crucible maps to keep murdering other guardians entertaining too. And they’re well made and fun. Two of them are brutally tight and really allow matches to become what Destiny does best with abilities being flung around and guardians jumping, blinking and floating everywhere. The other map is a horrible long range map with vehicles all over the place. Being repeatedly shot in the head without a contest is no fun and I personally hate PvP vehicle battles in Destiny. If you like sniping or using vehicles then it’s a great map.

There’s a new vanguard strike too for your PvE craving. Most of my time in Destiny is spent in strike missions with players found in matchmaking. There isn’t really much new or different with the latest strike but it feels every bit as well made and fully featured as the original strikes. It’s particularly useful given all the extra vanguard marks and reputation I’m going to need to at least have one fresh mission to keep things a little more interesting. It’s well designed and just as fun to play as the other strikes.

But a much more significant addition is the raise in the level cap for your light level. You can now make it beyond the old level cap of 30 all the way up to 32. But to do so you’re going to have to get stuck into The Dark Below’s new raid. You’re then going to have to play it extensively to get the items you want because as usual all the best gear is handed out primarily according to luck. And there’s an extra layer of difficulty if you want to reach the lofty heights of level 32. All that gear you finally got from grinding the raid over and over will need levelling up before you get all that lovely light. But you can forget about using those ascendant shards and energies you’ve found. You’ll need ‘radiant’ materials that can only be found in the raid.

So that’s all well and good for the hardcore among us but what about those who don’t have a dedicated raid team waiting for hour after hour of high level Destiny action? Well actually there’s loads for you. I’ve spent a lot of time on Destiny but I still prefer matchmaking. I don’t have a huge amount of online friends and certainly not enough to effectively organize a raid. So I’ve been content with vanguard strikes to get my fill of Destiny.

Well your local neighbourhood vanguard merchant has just what you need. They just so happen to have a new set of armour available that, when upgraded, will get you to level 31. Sure you’ll have to wait for the irritating weekly limit on vanguard, or crucible, marks but other than that you can guarantee your way to 31 and use your ‘standard’ ascendant materials to upgrade them. It’s not about an enormous grind anymore so much as it’s about re-grinding and doing the same things to get very slightly better equipment.

Everything about the latest update to Destiny make me feel like I’ve been wasting my time. Raising the level is one thing but replacing the items that I bought for items that are just plain better for the same cost is punishing me for owning the game earlier than some players. All the ascendant shards I’ve used on armour are now almost completely worthless as I’ll need to replace my armour. So a new player, that hasn’t bought a season pass (you can get to level 31 without owning The Dark Below), can easily be a higher level than someone who played Destiny for days on end and just hasn’t played for a week or two. That seems a little backwards to me.

Everything about Destiny’s latest update devalues everything that you previously earned. It opens up options for more grinding and gives me a good excuse to play some more Destiny, which is never a bad thing, but there really isn’t much value in The Dark Below. The bike is a cheesy gimmick at best and since I’m not ever likely to be able to complete a raid The Dark Below only offers me a few campaign missions that while not bad, don’t make me feel like I got a good deal and some crucible maps.

As with a lot of Destiny Content the raid players get exclusive access to content and everyone else gets nothing. It’s one thing to keep rewards for the hardcore but to exclude others is just unfair. So I get punished for not having enough friends interested in raids. But somehow Destiny manages to make raid players feel robbed at the same time by providing ‘nearly as good stuff’ easily at vendors; and even worse they’re available without paying. This expansion does nothing but alienate and punish those who are dedicated. If you haven’t got much loot and don’t pay for the DLC you’re in the winners group. Everyone else seems to lose in some way.

Ciri playable in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

0

CD Projekt RED and BANDAI NAMCO Games has today revealed new screenshots which present one of the key characters in the epic role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Ciri.

Ciri_ashen-haired_0_0

Alone in a world set out to kill the weak, Geralt of Rivia, a wandering monster slayer, is embarking on a journey that will redefine everything. Ciri, the ashen-haired girl from an ancient prophecy, is a descendant in a long lost elven blood lineage.

The girl is a living and highly volatile weapon capable of both destroying and healing the fragile world she currently inhabits.

Emotionally connected to Geralt, the girl is pursued by the titular Wild Hunt, a cavalcade of ghastly riders capable of unspeakable destruction, and by the mighty Empire of Nilfgaard, the most powerful political entity in the entire world. Every choice the player makes will resonate with dire consequences. The world is yours to explore and Ciri is somewhere out there, fighting her own demons.

With such a deep and developed plot, CD Projekt RED decided that introducing another character and telling parts of the story from her perspective would greatly benefit the overall experience. Adding Ciri as a playable character unlocks quite a few narrative possibilities for the player.

witcher-3-ciri

Ciri is present in the game to offer a unique and different perspective on the story plot, and not to become an alternative story line to Geralt. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is about Geralt and his exploration of the open world, his fight against the Hunt, and finding Ciri herself.

Aside from extraordinaire swordplay, she has quite a few unique skills up her sleeves that will gradually unlock throughout the game. She’s fast and agile, she can blink (as seen in the Elder Blood trailer), but — most importantly — there’s something dormant in her, a mythical power, but more about that later.

Elite: Dangerous finally launches

0

Frontier Developments plc has today launched Elite: Dangerous, the fourth game in the groundbreaking, genre-defining Elite series.

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth in the Elite series of games, following on from the seminal 1984 Elite, developed by David Braben and Ian Bell, 1993’s Frontier: Elite 2, and 1995’s Frontier: First Encounters.

Elite: Dangerous was crowdfunded via Kickstarter and Frontier Developments’ own website, beginning in November 2012. Throughout 2014, backers have had access to the game’s Alpha, Beta and Gamma stages.

The story begins today with the Empire in disarray. The Emperor is sick and a bitter fight for succession has already begun. The Federation has a weak President, and some frontier States are looking to leave it.

Players are free to throw themselves into the story wholeheartedly, participate a little, or not at all. How players choose to respond will directly affect the outcome of the current events, and the unfolding story beyond.

Elite: Dangerous is available now at elitedangerous.com/store for £39.99 ($59.99, €49.99).

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Summer 2015.

Developed by Ninja Theory, DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition will include the original stylish action game, all previously released downloadable content, including the “Vergil’s Downfall” campaign as well as brand new modes and additional gameplay features, making this the ultimate offering for Devil May Cry fans.

15840728549_f5df76f912_b

New to DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, players will be able to play as Dante’s twin brother himself in Vergil’s Bloody Palace Mode. For an extra depth of challenge, players will be able to try out the added Gods Must Die and Must Style Mode as well as Hardcore Mode, which has been designed to play more like the classic Devil May Cry series. DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition players will also receive new Dante and Vergil costumes inspired by classic Devil May Cry character designs. The game’s high quality production values will run at a stunning 1080p and smooth 60 fps across both next-gen consoles.

16024834981_d702a39566_b

Balancing and improvements based on fan feedback from DmC Devil May Cry are being implemented into DmC Devil May Cry: Definitive Edition, as well as modifiers that can be turned on at various stages, including Turbo Mode which allows players to increase the speed of play for even faster, more intense combat. Additional leaderboards, trophies and achievements will be included, as well as social features, taking advantage of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One functionality.

DmC Devil May Cry sees Dante’s origin story being retold against a contemporary backdrop. Dante is a young man with no respect for authority or society in general. He knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. Combat and movement throughout the game are influenced by Dante’s ability to call upon both angel and demon abilities, dramatically affecting the gameplay style.
