Review: Sniper Elite: Resistance

Ready for a random observation, courtesy of Sniper Elite: Resistance? Sniping is simultaneously stealthy and un-stealthy. You need to get in to the right place, at the right time, with no one seeing you (or recognising you if they do), and make sure you have a similar exit strategy. But at the same time you’re carrying a big explosion in a long tube. When you pull the trigger, you’re essentially blowing into a giant vuvuzela and holding up a sign with ‘I Am Here’ written on it.

I thought about this as bullets were pinging into the metal of the thin barrier I was hiding behind. Being one of the least stealthiest humans that has ever lived, my sniping plans were often sub-par. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. When the stars align and you pull off a perfect shot, then Sniper Elite: Resistance really shines, and it works hard to recreate that moment. When you keep your enemies at a distance, things are great. Cracks only start appearing when we get up close.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Long Distance Bullet Delivery

Sniper Elite: Resistance winds the clock back to 1944, where Europe has picked itself back up off the mat and is ready to deliver a haymaker in the form of D-Day. Unfortunately, the French resistance has picked up some chatter that the Nazis are developing a superweapon. In response, the Brits send in a special operative to deal with it – SOE agent Harry Hawker. A man with the face of a twenty year-old and the voice of a sixty year-old. To be brutally honest, I strongly recommend not coming to Sniper Elite: Resistance for the plot. Harry is a dull non-entity, strung along by the nose from one set-piece to another.

Instead, you should come here for the long guns that make loud noises. Sniping requires you to spot targets through your binoculars, then dial in your scope to distance. After accounting for the weather, you line your crosshair up on either their head or their crotch. If you aim it right, you’re greeted with a gory X-ray scene of your bullet spearing through their skull and/or plums. These X-ray shots do get old, but lining up the perfect shot that flies through the eye-socket of a rival sniper is a wonderful feeling. I recommend flicking the sniping difficulty up, though, otherwise holding your breath just shows you where you’re going to hit.

The sniping excels when the maps open up, and Sniper Elite: Resistance seems to understand that. The best levels are ones with big sprawling fields or other wide areas, where you can hike up a lookout tower and absolutely clear up. If you time shots with loud noises, like thunder or a nearby dogfight, then you’re masked. So with a bit of patience, I could clear half the map with well-placed shots. The maps aren’t empty, though. There are a lot of side missions that need to be manually discovered, along with a kill challenge in each mission. If you fancy slow playing it, you can spend quite a bit of time on each one. I was never bored, that’s for sure.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Sniper No Sniping

Unfortunately, I found it a lot less entertaining when the levels shrank and a lot of that is down to the AI. It’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, bless it. Not just because they’re unable to notice a muzzle flash that’s about ten feet from them. They’re terrible at searching, and frequently unloaded entire magazines at the spot I was about five minutes ago. They search for a long time, too, so I’d just park my arse behind a wall and twiddle my thumbs. They also react to their helmet being shot off by standing there, gawping, until the second bullet bursts through their cranium.

The net result is that that being spotted doesn’t feel harrowing. Partly because the AI won’t put up much challenge, but also because Hawker feels overpowered. One of the first pistols we unlock is silenced and can kill Nazis in one headshot, for instance. But we can also carry multiple grenades, mines and gosh darned TNT, along with a rifle and SMG. Even when I messed up, I managed to clear the map because they could only take one shot, and I could tank several magazines. The shooting isn’t really enjoyable enough to prop things up, so being spotted was more of an annoyance.

Still, once you get out of the structured campaign format, there are other modes that are enjoyable. Propaganda missions, for instance, pop you into time-based scenarios with limited gear and a defined playstyle. So you need to stealth kill as many Nazis as possible, for instance, or (my favourite) counter-snipe a horde of elite snipers. There’s also survival, which was fun enough, but with no one online for multiplayer I was soon minced by a mounted machine gun. Lastly, you can invade other people’s games as a rival sniper. I got invaded precisely once, where I was shot to death without knowing what was happening. I responded by grumpily folding my arms and turning it off. Nice idea, though.

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Sniper Elite: Resistance – Fun At A Distance

All this lead to a realisation in the penultimate mission: my favourite part of Sniper Elite: Resistance was the beginning of the campaign missions. I’d get to a safe place and whip out my binoculars. Once I’d tagged enough Nazis, I’d head to a good sniping spot. Then I’d either wait for environmental noise, or kick a generator, and make shot after shot. In other words, when Sniper Elite: Resistance focused on the sniping, everything was golden. Every time it forced me down into a cramped, underground lab I was having less fun.

Still, my experience was overall positive. Crawling over the campaign levels, checking off missions and sniping targets, was good fun. I think I’ll probably return once there are enough people to fill out the survival mode. While getting up close and personal was a bit frustrating thanks to wonky AI, the Sniper Elite series remains the best way to watch a lump of metal obliterate a Nazi’s future fatherhood potential.

Most interesting forms of entertainment in Pennsylvania

Why is Pennsylvania such an iconic setting in movies and games? This is particularly true for the horror genre, where its eerie forests, abandoned towns, and rich folklore provide the perfect backdrop for chilling stories.

A recent study from CableTV.com even revealed that Pennsylvania leads the US in horror movie death tolls!

From George A. Romero’s groundbreaking zombie films to video games that draw upon its haunting landscapes, Pennsylvania has earned its place as a cultural icon in storytelling.

Beyond horror, the state’s historical significance and diverse geography inspire creators to craft narratives that are grounded in realism yet brimming with intrigue.

In this article, we explore why the Keystone State is such a compelling setting and look at some of the most popular movies and games to come out of it.

Why does Pennsylvania inspire so many great games & movies?

Some say Pennsylvania’s allure lies in its rich tapestry of locations and stories. With so many dense forests, isolated towns and abandoned industrial sites, its atmosphere is perfect for horror and mystery genres.

This unique combination has served as the foundation for countless iconic works. George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (1968), filmed in rural Pennsylvania, is a perfect example, using the state’s quiet countryside to create a sense of isolation and dread that would come to characterize the zombie sub-genre.

Pennsylvania’s industrial history has inspired gritty, emotionally charged dramas in other genres, too. The steel mills of Pittsburgh, for instance, provided the backdrop for The Deer Hunter (1978), a film that explores themes of community, loss, and resilience in a working-class setting.

The state’s folklore and eerie geography also play a key role in its appeal. The Pocono Mountains, with their dense woods and misty landscapes, evoke feelings of mystery and suspense, making them an ideal setting for horror games like Until Dawn.

Additionally, the abandoned mining towns scattered across Pennsylvania have inspired fictional worlds such as Silent Hill, where the remnants of once-thriving communities create a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic.

Iconic Pennsylvania-inspired movies

Pennsylvania has played a starring role in numerous iconic films, particularly in the horror and thriller genres. Here are a few famous examples:

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

This award-winning thriller was filmed in Pennsylvania, showcasing Pittsburgh and several smaller towns, whose distinct atmospheres contributed to the film’s eerie tone. Some scenes were filmed in an abandoned factory, of which there are many in the state, adding an extra layer of bleakness.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

George A. Romero’s groundbreaking zombie film was set and filmed in rural Pennsylvania. As the birthplace of the zombie sub-genre, it cemented the state’s legacy in horror cinema.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Another Romero classic, this film’s setting in Monroeville Mall near Pittsburgh created an iconic backdrop for the zombie apocalypse. The mall itself became an iconic symbol of consumer culture, adding a satirical layer to the zombie apocalypse narrative and cementing the film’s place in cinematic history.

The Deer Hunter (1978)

Reflecting Pennsylvania’s industrial roots, the steel mill scenes were filmed on location, giving the movie a gritty and authentic feel.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)

Filmed at Bethlehem Steel Works, this action-packed blockbuster highlighted the state’s industrial decay and rich history. This setting emphasized the themes of power and decay, providing a striking visual backdrop that connected the film’s narrative to the state’s storied history.

The Road (2009)

This post-apocalyptic drama used Pennsylvania’s bleak landscapes to underscore the movie’s desolation and struggle for survival.

Iconic Pennsylvania-inspired games

Pennsylvania’s influence extends into gaming too, where its landscapes and history inspire immersive experiences.

Fallout 3

While much of Fallout 3 is set in Washington, D.C., parts of the game extend into areas inspired by Pennsylvania’s geography and industrial past. The game’s post-apocalyptic landscape captures the essence of the Rust Belt, with its abandoned factories and desolate towns reflecting Pennsylvania’s industrial decline.

Left 4 Dead

This iconic zombie survival game features a campaign, Blood Harvest, set in Pennsylvania. The game uses the state’s rural areas, dense forests, and remote farmlands to create an atmosphere of isolation and terror, perfectly aligning with Pennsylvania’s reputation as the birthplace of the modern zombie genre.

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse

This quirky and humorous zombie game is set in a fictionalized 1950s-style city in Pennsylvania. The game’s retro-futuristic setting combines the charm of mid-century Americana with the eerie vibe of a zombie outbreak, paying homage to the state’s legacy as the home of George A. Romero’s zombie films.

Entertainment in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s entertainment offerings aren’t limited to movies and games. The state boasts a vibrant casino scene that attracts gaming enthusiasts from far and wide. From iconic venues like Parx Casino in Bensalem to the Mohegan Sun Pocono, there’s no shortage of opportunities to test your luck. These establishments feature everything from table games to the latest slot machines, providing an exciting mix of traditional and modern gaming options.

For those who prefer the convenience of online gaming, casino games in Pennsylvania are widely accessible through licensed platforms. These platforms offer a variety of options, from classic card games to immersive slot games, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Pennsylvania’s robust gaming industry has become a key part of its entertainment landscape, blending the thrill of casinos with the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Wrap up

From classic horror films to atmospheric video games, Pennsylvania’s unique blend of history, geography, and culture makes it an unmatched source of inspiration.

Whether exploring its industrial past or delving into its eerie landscapes, creators continue to draw from the Keystone State to craft unforgettable stories and experiences.

For fans of gaming, Pennsylvania’s casino scene adds another dimension to its appeal, making it a destination worth exploring for all kinds of entertainment.

Review: Aidan in Danger

Aidan in Danger is a simple platforming retro experience. It reuses assets throughout and this caused me to chuckle. Though this wasn’t problematic, it made things too easy and the gameplay was repetitive. However, some genuinely good moments hooked me.

Brainium Games developed and published this old-school affair. Additionally, it is a single-player 2D experience that is gloriously pixelated. Though this won’t impress modern gamers, fans of 8-bit titles will love the trip down memory lane.

Aidan in Danger tells a crazy tale.

You are Aidan, an elf who has sworn to protect Drakor. He is the last dragon on Earth and has a target on his back. Consequently, you must keep your eyes peeled to complete your task. Unfortunately, interdimensional beings wish to ruin your day. As such, you must undertake a journey like no other.

As the game evolves, you will experience a host of new problems and obstacles to overcome. There are some precision moments and plenty of clichéd and well-trodden mechanics. Yet, this matters not. Each short, sharp level is a blast to work through, and dying and failing are par for the course.

Classic ideas.

Aidan in Danger lacks originality. The spikes, chasms, blades, and monsters all feel familiar. Moreover, overcoming each obstacle takes little skill or ability. As long as you’re patient, you’ll move from beginning to end with little trouble.

Luckily, things do become more challenging. Monsters appear from nowhere and the linear stage design opens up. Additionally, there were occasionally time-reliant tasks that added danger and panic to proceedings. This was where Aidan in Danger excels. Had the developer expanded this idea, the gameplay would have been improved.

Aidan in Danger is brilliantly pixelated.

I enjoyed the level design even though it was rudimentary. Exploring each dungeon was fun and grabbing the coins and diamonds kept me focused. Furthermore, the backdrops varied as you progressed. This approach prevents the action from becoming mundane. What’s more, as you explore new worlds, you see different enemies to mix things up.

The audio is basic but suitable. The music is repetitive and dated and sounds like something from the 90s. Yet, I loved this classic soundscape and the shrill sound effects.

Clumsy controls.

Aidan in Danger is easy to play, but the controls let it down. They are occasionally clunky and slow. This was disappointing as it caused more issues than necessary. Had this been tightened up, it would have been a more enjoyable platform experience.

There are plenty of levels to work through. Moreover, each has 3 diamonds to collect. This creates some replay value and longevity. However, had the developer incorporated a speedrun mode or time trial, this would have kept me coming back for more.

Aidan in Danger is a fine indie game.

This won’t blow you away. Aidan in Danger lacks a final polish, and that was disappointing. Though I enjoyed the casual gameplay and the fun graphics, it lacks originality. This was unfortunate, but it is a fine indie game regardless. Accordingly, I like it and recommend buying it here! Can you help Aidan to complete his task? Study each level, avoid the obstacles, and stay alive.

The world of digital marketing has always been fast-paced and innovative. The race to keep up with the latest trends and strategies is often at the top of the priority list for small businesses, and AI is no exception to this. If there is a simpler, more streamlined and cost effective way to make a sincere connection with your audience, it needs to be explored. The advancements of artificial intelligence are extremely impressive, and it’s set to change the digital landscape both now and in the future. Whether you’re hoping to optimize your customer interactions, find more information from valuable data, or enhance satisfaction rates, AI can certainly help with this. With this in mind, here are some of the key things you should know about AI, marketing and the future of the digital space for businesses.

The Key Advantages of AI in Marketing

The main benefit of AI and marketing is the ability to create completely bespoke services and experiences for your clients. Using data analytics, AI is able to decipher trends, preferences, patterns and unique behaviors for individuals. This is such a powerful tool when it comes to GTM AI data it has completely changed how businesses engage with online buyers and how they approach sales. A solid and reliable AI-ready data foundation is paramount, otherwise mistakes will be made. It’s worth mentioning that high quality AI data can also improve customer loyalty and increase conversion rates too. When a company has access to these insights it can help businesses make data-driven decisions, so that money is spent in the right places.

The Power of Chatbots

Chatbots have proven to be an extremely powerful tool when it comes to providing timely and efficient customer support. AI facilitated virtual assistants can answer frequently asked questions quickly and efficiently, whilst offering bespoke recommendations for other products. Having this tool on your website or landing page can even help you to upsell to customers who are ready to checkout. The biggest advantage of chatbots is that they’re available all day everyday, so your customers can get help as soon as they need it. This AI feature is a surefire way to improve customer satisfaction, and it allows human customer service team members to have more time to deal with more complicated queries.

AI and Content Creation

If you were to ask any small business owner what their main gripe was about running a company and keeping digital marketing on trend, it would be content creation. It’s time consuming and can take a lot of manual effort to come up with ideas and execute them effectively. AI can also create sophisticated written content which is very useful for businesses looking to produce blog posts, newsletters and informative articles on a regular basis.

AI Can Anticipate Customer Movements

As mentioned earlier, AI gives you the power to predict customer movements and behaviors which can be invaluable when it comes to spotting trends and targeting with the right ads. AI can also look ahead and predict potential outcomes for the future, so that every opportunity can be seized at the relevant moment.

AI Challenges to Consider

As with any newfound phenomenon, there will always be risks to face and challenges to overcome. AI poses its own unique risks due to the nature of the beast, some of which could be fairly costly and time consuming for business owners to implement. Data quality and privacy can also be a factor to consider, especially with tighter GDPR regulations. This is why it’s important for businesses to invest in solid data management software and compliance practices in order to protect customer data when it’s generated by AI.

AI also needs to seamlessly integrate into existing systems and current processes, some of which may not always be designed to work with these innovative technologies. However, with careful budgeting, proper training and excellent compliance measures, it should be possible to seamlessly integrate into your business and digital marketing strategies over time.

Embracing AI and Marketing In The Future

In the future, AI certainly has a strong place in the digital marketing world; it’s certainly not a fleeting trend that is going anywhere, any time soon. In fact, if you want your business to keep up with competitors and stay relevant it’s almost vital to try out AI in some capacity so that you can start to reap the rewards. There are numerous benefits to consider, which may help you to go above and beyond your marketing goals. Now is the ideal time to test out some AI strategies, and see how lucrative they could be for your business.

As the web experience got more powerful, web-based browser games became incredibly popular thanks to the innovations of Adobe Flash. While Flash is no longer used, browser games are still going strong – even in the age of the smartphone where gaming has become more accessible than ever.

In this article, you’ll learn about five of the best browser games you can play today!

1. Agar.io

In many ways, Agar.io typifies the latest wave of browser games – addictive, fast, and multiplayer. The premise is simple: the player operates a small blob and must go about the map consuming smaller blobs to get bigger, all while avoiding the predatory larger blobs trying to consume them

As is the case with many of the best browser games, it’s a simple, yet ingenious concept. There’s a lot of strategy to figure out as you attempt to reach the top of the leaderboard, and it’s a great choice whether you’re looking for some quick fun or to compete at a high level.

2. Krunker.io

Back in the days of Flash, a 3D first-person shooter (FPS) game running through a browser was practically unheard of, but Krunker.io is a testament to how far the genre has come.

The game pits the player against others through a wide variety of different modes and maps with a ton of cool weapons to choose from. The weapon you choose will decide the strategy you take: perhaps you’ll become a sniper, picking off foes from a distance, or maybe your fast reflexes mean you’d be best fighting head-on.

3. Red Ball Games

Red Ball Games provides a series of unique challenges for kids and adults alike, combining many different tropes to offer a unique browser-game experience. Whether you’re into puzzles, action, or adventure, this series of games will undoubtedly have something for you.

They’re great both as something to kill a bit of time or for sinking a full hour into, so if you’re in search of a series with great versatility, be sure to give these games a try.

4. Forge of Empires

If you’re looking for something a little deeper and with a focus on traditional strategy, Forge of Empires may well be your ideal browser-based game. Similarly to classic titles like Rise of Nations and Age of Empires, the game has you evolving your own civilization through the ages, engaging in turn-based combat, researching technology, and building vast cities.

When you have plenty of time to spare, you won’t regret spending it playing Forge of Empires if you’re a strategy fan!

5. Little Alchemy 2

Little Alchemy 2 perfectly blends creativity and puzzle-solving into one unique package. The idea is to combine different scientific elements using the mouse to create new ones: you’ll have great fun discovering the dozens of different possibilities, using logic to work out each combination and make progress.

Little Alchemy 2 is all about the intrinsic joy of discovery, so if you have a few minutes spare, open up a new tab in your browser and give it a shot.

Staying safe while gaming in 2025

0

Whether you love playing online role-playing games or prefer the suspense of an online poker tournament, staying safe while gaming should be one of the biggest priorities for every gamer this year, after all, it’s 2025, and technology has come an unbelievably long way since the early days of digital gaming. Whilst this means there are more incredible games available than ever before, it also means there are plenty of high-tech scammers out there hoping to steal your personal data and pocket your hard-earned pennies. Falling victim to a scam or data leak is no fun, so in order to protect your enjoyment of gaming, you need to consider a few important factors that will help to keep you safe in 2025. Just keep reading, as in this article, we’ve rounded up our five top tips for gaming safely this year!

  1. Find the Best Games

Once you’ve listened to the expert opinions, it’s also important to consider the user experience by reading online game reviews and consulting your fellow gamers for advice. In the world of online gaming, user support has become increasingly important, especially when playing multi-player editions and live online tournaments. Online forums and message boards can provide a valuable source of information and recommendations, helping you to lessen the risk of downloading an unsafe game or signing up for a bogus site. After all, other gaming fans will tell you the honest truth about every platform, and bad reviews will very quickly show you which games to avoid. Always consult other players for advice if you can, as this is a simple and easy way to protect your online safety while gaming and prevent any bad experiences along the way.

  • Protect Your Data

Alongside sticking to trusted and well-reviewed gaming platforms, there are other quick and easy ways to protect your personal data from scammers, fraudsters, and data leaks. Remember to regularly change your passwords and keep them strong, and never give away any personal information on the internet. Alongside this, secure encryption technology has advanced significantly in recent years, and there are plenty of helpful (and free) tools available that will work hard to keep you safe. If you haven’t used one before, we highly recommend that you use a VPN service to protect your private information and keep your location hidden. It might seem unnecessary, but a VPN actually provides many layers of data protection, and helps you to stay anonymous in a world where your identity is increasingly exposed. If you game online regularly, then adding these extra layers of personal protection is a very important way to stay safe in 2025 and beyond.

  • Safeguard your Finances

As the 2020s whizz by, there are even more online gaming platforms that have incorporated the option for in-game purchases, monetized features, and paid subscriptions. This means that many gamers must now carefully safeguard their financial information when playing today. There are many ways to do this, and we highly recommend that you use secure and reputable payment platforms whenever you deposit at an online casino or sign up for a new subscription. You should always consider using e-wallets like PayPal or Apple Pay, as this provides an extra layer of protection for your precious cash and allows you to avoid linking your personal banking details to any gaming accounts. It’s also important to take a safer approach to your money by sticking to a strict budget whenever you make microtransactions while you play this year. Good platforms should allow you to cap your transactions, making it easier to avoid overspending and helping you keep the good times rolling.

  • Listen to the Experts

This is a tip that is easily overlooked, but can seriously help you to stay safe and have the best possible time whilst playing all your favorite games online. You need to listen to the experts, as this is the easiest way to find the most reputable developers and gaming platforms and will help you avoid giving your precious data away to dodgy sites. If you enjoy playing classic games at online casinos, reading guidance from the trusted experts at Casino.org can help you to narrow down the options and make the right choice for you. It’s an incredibly crowded market out there, meaning that signing up for the safest possible gaming site is really important, so be sure to assess the reputation of your chosen iGaming provider before you give away any personal or financial details.

  • Be a Safer Gamer

In the present day, online games have become an incredibly social and shared activity that offers plenty of opportunities for making new friends and meeting a like-minded online community. However, with the growing sophistication of artificial intelligence (AI) technology used by scammers, it is becoming even easier for fraudsters to pose as your friends and trick you into sharing your private information. To be a safer gamer in 2025, you need to be careful during any digital interactions and never share sensitive information with strangers on the internet or click on unsolicited links. If you make safety a priority whilst gaming, you can also proactively help the gaming community as a whole by reporting any online harassment or abuse and flagging up suspicious behavior to the user support team on your chosen platform. By becoming a champion of online safety, you’ll be able to sustain your enjoyment of all your favorite games well into the future.

Ultimately, there are countless ways you can stay safe while gaming in 2025. As long as you don’t become too complacent, you should be able to enjoy a secure and fun experience as a gamer throughout this year and well into the future. With just a few small steps, you can seriously boost your personal security and protect your private information whilst still enjoying all your favorite online games and tournaments. Thanks to technology, staying safe while gaming has never been easier, so why not try implementing a few of these tips today?

Review: Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open

Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open hits PS5 with much intrigue. Is it worth your time? Or should it have stayed confined to the paper?

A Different Type Of Horror

Almost three years ago, indie developers Cellar Vault Games released Paper Ghost Stories:7PM. An intriguing title, the game told a story of horror using a unique papercraft graphical style set in a small town in Malaysia. In reality though, this small game was merely the test base for what the developers had in store and now it is in full force with the release of Third Eye Open. Once again set in a small Malaysian suburb, the story focuses on a young girl named Ting. As a six year old when the story starts, she is full of wonder and intrigue as she moves into a new house with her parents. It’s here she meets another young girl called Xiu. It quickly becomes apparent to both the player and Ting herself that Xiu is not of the living world and is, in fact, a ghost. With only Ting being able to see her, this sets up the mystery of this horror tale for both Ting and the player. It’s a great opening to the game that only increased my intrigue as to why Ting can see and interact with the world of the dead.

With this mystical power, Ting has to balance this ability along with dealing with important moments in her young life. The story spans a five year period ending with Ting at eleven years old but it’s what takes place during those years that seals this story as one to remember. Ting has to deal with many real world problems, such as witnessing her parents arguing and fighting whilst dealing with the pressures of growing up in school, with bullying and feelings of isolation. This may not seem particularly exciting but it’s the way the tale is interwoven with the fact Ting can see and interact with the spirit world that makes this so interesting and different. It’s a coming of age tale with a horror twist – not in a bloody gory sense but one of supernatural experience and how those experiences shape Ting’s ordinary life. It’s important to note that having played 7PM is not vital to the experience and new players can jump straight into this great story without any prior knowledge. This is a tale that on the surface seems mundane, but which has so many layers for the player to peel back.

Exploration And Understanding

Third Eye Open is a horror game at its core but it does some interesting things with gameplay that keep it feeling unique and fresh. It is a narrative adventure at heart, in which a lot of the core gameplay loop consists of exploring areas as Ting and interacting with the environment to uncover facts and context to the story. Along with this, the game does a great job of sprinkling in puzzles to keep the players on their toes. The puzzles aren’t particularly complex but they certainly were a welcome change to the gameplay for me. Additionally, there are some fantastic stealth elements added to critical parts of the game that heightened the tension and atmosphere for me. At first I thought this game would be a pure walking sim with some exploration but these elements surprised me. Add in some quick time events and dialogue choices and you have a solid gameplay experience on offer here to complement the wonderful story.

The journal in the game is another strong point for players as it’s easy to access and allows the players to keep track of the tasks in hand. Often I would be exploring and forget my main objective, so being able to easily access this journal is a real time saver. It is worth noting that this type of game won’t be for everyone, since, as previously mentioned, a lot of the game is walking around exploring environments. But for horror fans, rest assured the game does have some wonderful atmospheric areas that really will unnerve you, just as they did for me. The story will always be the priority in a product like this but gameplay does a solid job complementing.

Paper Crafted Precision

Graphically speaking, this game is absolutely stunning. Like its predecessor, the game employs a truly unique papercraft style that is unlike anything else available today. Watching the cut out characters glide around the static backgrounds is truly something to behold. As I was playing, I began to question what was hand-drawn and what wasn’t as it all looks so good blended with the backgrounds. The scenes in which dialogue plays out also look fantastic as they show close ups of the characters’ facial expressions and emotions. The graphics look superb but also look like they’re ripped straight out of a child’s drawing book which is really mesmerising! It’s clear that the developers wanted to make this game a love letter to Malaysia and its culture and this is evident with wonderful art and décor honouring their fascinating culture. It also helps that the ghosts look pretty damn creepy when they appear!

Regarding sound design, it’s a solid if unspectacular effort. The narrative and dialogue are told mainly through text bubbles and facial emotions so there is no real voice acting on display here. I have no major issues with the sound design as mentioned; I just have nothing to say that stood out for me or helped to increase the tension or atmosphere, which was disappointing. The musical score fares better with a soundtrack that helps accentuate the clear passion and love for the Malaysian culture in the daytime scenes, whilst night time and spirit realm areas are accompanied by a creepy brooding score. Solid effort.

Verdict

Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open is a great horror tale combining the story of a child’s life with her ability to interact with the dead. This unique combination creates an emotional, yet eerie story. Stunning visuals that are unlike any other game make this adventure worth your time. It’s certainly not for everyone with its lack of true gameplay and narrative approach, but there’s a great tale to be discovered if you can see past this. Now I really want to visit Malaysia!

The weekends are the perfect opportunity to relax and reconnect with your loved ones. Be glad to know that you don’t even have to leave the house to enjoy yourselves.

Spending quality time together is a great way to deepen your bonds and build stronger relationships with the people you care about the most. If you’re looking for some ideas as to what you can all do together then you’ve come to the right place to learn more. Here you can review some fun ways to entertain the whole family at home.

Gaming Online

One fun way to entertain the whole family at home is to do some gaming online. There are many options such as using a gaming system or playing games through an app on your phone. Start your adventure today by browsing the collection of Snail Bob games and enjoy hours of entertainment no matter your age or skill level. Another entertaining option if you have a gaming system such as the Nintendo Switch is to get enough controllers to play some family Mario Kart.

Play Board Games

Another fun way to entertain the whole family at home is to play some board games. You can pull out an old one that you know you like playing or try something new such as Survive the Island. Playing board games is a great way to pass the time and you can all work on applying your problem-solving skills and enjoy some family bonding. There are games that you can play individually and others where you can get onto teams and work together to try to win.

Watch Movies

Sometimes it’s necessary to have some downtime as a family. Therefore, you may want to consider watching some movies as a group. There are plenty of age-appropriate and family-friendly movies to choose from and stream depending on your interests. You may want to go online and read reviews before selecting a movie so that you know it will be enjoyable and worth your time. Change into your comfortable clothing and make some of your favorite snacks to eat while you watch.

Do A Puzzle

If you want to entertain the entire family at home then consider doing a puzzle together. Puzzles are not only fun but challenging as well. Make sure that you pick a puzzle with the right amount of pieces for your kids so that they don’t become frustrated. It’s always a good idea to put together the border of the puzzle first so that you have a foundation to work from. Doing a puzzle can increase your attention to detail and boost your mood by giving you a sense of accomplishment.

Have A Dance Party

Music can instantly lift your spirits and get everyone to have some fun together. If you want to entertain the whole family at home then consider having a dance party. You can all participate and burn some calories as you move around. Your kids likely have some favorite songs that they will want to hear and that will be fun to listen to. A family dance party is an especially good idea if the weather is poor and you aren’t able to burn off any energy outside.

Review: A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is an uncomfortable experience. Every mistake haunts you and the crack of a stick breaking can signal the end of your life. Accordingly, you are on edge throughout, making it a genuinely tense affair.

This first-person horror adventure was developed by Stormind Games and published by Saber Interactive. Moreover, it is a spin-off from the highly acclaimed series. Thankfully, no prior knowledge is required of the horrors that will unfold. However, you may need to hold someone’s hand if you have a nervous disposition. Alternatively, if you want to up the ante, you can switch on your microphone and create a tough but captivating game of cat and mouse.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead tells a haunting tale.

Interpersonal family conflicts are tough at the best of times. But when murderous aliens are chasing you, it makes matters worse. Unfortunately, Earth was hit by meteorites and the result was catastrophic. Unfortunately, the impact wasn’t enough to annihilate mankind. Yet, the contents of the space rocks were a different story.

Immense spider-like aliens invaded Earth. These blind creatures should have been easy to take down, but they weren’t. Their supersonic hearing and powerful jaws pinpoint and rip apart anything in reach. Unfortunately, the protagonist must evade each monster as she watches her friends and family get ripped to shreds.

Take it slowly.

Deadly space aliens wanting to rip you apart would make you want to run. Yet, you must be silent and move slowly. Every small arena is laced with noisy obstacles and cruel traps. Every survivor was out for themselves. Consequently, they created tripwires, bear traps, and other deadly hazards. This makes navigating each area harder than it should.

If you include the delicate but loud sticks, cans, broken glass, and gravel, it is a recipe for disaster. On top of this, the heroine suffers from asthma. Subsequently, stress, excursion, and dust make matters worse. Luckily, inhalers and pills are easy to find, and your wits and some planning mitigate the most stressful situations.

As you explore each location, the gameplay follows a simple loop. Understand your mission, follow the path, and solve the puzzles. Alongside this, there are collectables to find and plenty of aliens to avoid. Though there is some freedom, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is fairly linear by design.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead looks great.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a claustrophobic and unnerving game to play. Each location is surrounded by eerie woods and low light. Moreover, there is blood, bodies, and other signs of death. This wouldn’t be great for squeamish gamers. Additionally, younger players shouldn’t give this a go.

I adored the cinematic and the snippets of lore. There are notes and pictures dotted around the world. Though these can be ignored, they support the story and create a fantastic picture of what occurred.

The audio is where this excels. Silence has never been so deafening. Consequently, you become sensitive to every footstep and splash of water. However, it is the accidents that make you gasp with shock. A crunch of broken glass or the noise of a rolling can fill you with dread. As the sound settles, you’ll hear the familiar noise of the creature and your heart will race. This is exactly how game audio should make you feel and the audio is truly mesmerising.

Excellent controls.

Every area has tight locations to navigate. Thankfully, the controls and responsive and helpful UI keeps you on track. Furthermore, it is easy to slow yourself down if you want to remain quiet. Though this makes traversing each environment a little arduous, it works with the core mechanics and the horror theme.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead has plenty of hidden achievements and loads of collectables. Yet, there appears to be no way to alter the story, and this was a shame. I’d have loved there to be branched storylines and plenty of unique endings. This would have enhanced the replay value and longevity.

A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is a great horror game.

January isn’t normally a month for horror games. This was released in October 2024 and I wish I played it then. However, if like me, you missed out, you are in for a treat. Though it is slow, it is truly uncomfortable. Moreover, the story is great and the claustrophobic world is a joy to explore. Accordingly, I adore this game and recommend buying it here! Can you keep quiet and survive? Explore your surroundings, complete your mission, and avoid the aliens.

Key elements of pop culture that define the modern world

0

The modern world can be confusing sometimes, as keeping on track with all the trends running online can become a real struggle for previous generations, and even understanding the enthusiasms of Gen Z can make you wonder what’s going on around you and ask yourself if you’ve missed something. In fact, the new generations are very involved in the digital world, and what they see, they embrace fully, turning everything into a deep passion that becomes part of their personality. This happens because of the power of the pop culture, which can be described as the modern age trends that represent the latest crazes. For instance, part of the pop culture is music, including the idols of the new generations, hits and new genres, movies, and TV shows that have created global fandoms, fashion, including the most popular luxury brands and various styles such as “old money” and streetwear, social media platforms, which are part of everyone’s daily life, celebrity culture, influencers, memes and more. So, we can surely say that pop culture is a little bit of everything, and it represents the modern world perfectly. So, if you are curious about this concept and want to get closer to the modern trends, in this article, we are going to present the key elements of pop culture that define the tech world and the new generations:

Social media platforms

Social media platforms represent a big part of everyone’s life, and they describe the modern tech world. At first, you might think that only Gen Z uses platforms like Instagram and TikTok, but the truth is far from that, as these platforms have become a phenomenon among people of all ages, in all parts of the world. Social media platforms have the power to launch new trends, giving a deeper purpose to pop culture and showcasing to users their favorite artists, music, memes, celebrities, and more. This concept has taken over the regular and old internet “life,” reshaping future generations and having a strong psychological impact on them. Social media platforms are the perfect way for people to connect with each other and share their interests in pop culture trends, getting closer to their ideal content and interacting freely with the audience and content they want to consume.

Streaming services for entertainment

Movies and TV series are some of the key factors that contribute to the success of pop culture. In the modern world, DVDs and regular TV posts are not a thing anymore, so people have decided to embrace streaming services for entertainment. The most popular streaming platforms work on every device, smartphone, computer, or even smart TV, and they have a strong cultural impact because they promote this kind of activity as the main entertainment experience, supporting the expansion of a franchise (Marvel series, for example) promote binge-watching, create niche content and support the synergy with social media trends. For example, some of the most popular streaming platforms among pop culture consumers are Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Hulu, and YouTube.

Modern fandoms

Pop culture creates fandoms, which, simply put, are groups of people that share the same passions and interests, and they are big fans of a specific subject, such as a musical group, a TV series, a movie, a celebrity, and more. These communities of enthusiasts engage actively with their favorite characters and subjects, immersing themselves in a digital world of information regarding the topic, and they consume a lot of that specific content. Fans usually follow fan pages, blogs, and actors on their social media accounts to be updated; they can read fan fiction, create fan art, share memes regarding their favorite artist and topic, and even cosplay their idols. Fandoms often foster a sense of belonging for all participants, and it can be a great experience to be part of such a group of people who share the same passion and ideas. To keep in touch with each other and expand their horizons, fans are very active on social messaging platforms like Discord, Redding, and Telegram as well, besides the popular Instagram and Facebook, where they create groups with other people and TikTok, where they make engaging edits about their favorite pop culture phenomenon. Another thing that characterizes fandoms is their love for gadgets that represent their interests. For example, movie and TV series fandoms decide to collect vinyl figures that represent characters from their favourite movies like the Marvel series, or anime, such as the new Chainsaw man pop figures and other items that recall their passion.

Celebrity culture

Another important part of pop culture is the fascination with celebrities and their lives. This aspect is known as celebrity culture, which is a concept that has a strong influence on the lives of many people who decide to spend a lot of time checking their favorite celebrity appearances and updates. Celebrities have the power to influence many aspects, such as fashion trends, beauty, lifestyle choices, purchasing decisions, and more. Their strong online presence on social media platforms like Instagram associated their name with the term “influencer,” thanks to their ability to manipulate a large number of followers. Some celebrities become known for specific qualities such as their angelic voice, their modeling career, or simply because of a scandal they’ve been involved in and their over-exposure that has brought some collaborations. The media feeds the public appetite for the latest gossip and behind-the-scenes information regarding popular celebrities, strengthening the impact of pop culture in the Hollywood-like world.

The bottom line

We hope this article gets you closer to the latest crazes that represent the modern world so you don’t feel left out the next time you hear about an influencer or a new TV show that has been a real success. Of course, obsessing over pop culture topics is not the best thing to do, but without a doubt, sometimes, a little bit of enthusiasm that can make you take a break from ordinary life can be fun!

Review: Ace Attorney Investigations Collection

Hold it! Can you believe that the first – and rather underratedAce Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth was released fifteen years ago?

Capcom has done it once again. Following up on the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy remaster, the new and improved Ace Attorney Investigations Collection was released on September 5th, 2024. This collection contains the duology of Miles Edgeworth, paired with updated spritework, UI, and mechanical features. An even greater feat is that, originally, Ace Attorney Investigations 2 had never been released outside of Japan . . . until now!

Regardless if you have played Ace Attorney titles in the past, it is difficult to not enjoy these dramatical puzzle adventures. If you are unfamiliar with Ace Attorney lore, it is easy to hop into the Investigations Collection since it is a spinoff. If you are a long-term fan, you may appreciate the return of beloved characters and the deeper dive into Miles Edgeworth’s past.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and PC.

Love, Laugh, Maim, and Murder

The collection features both Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Prosecutor’s Gambit, containing a total of ten lengthy episodes to play. All episodes come with a beginning segment, one or more middle segments, and an end segment.

Miles Edgeworth and DIck Gumshoe

Step directly into the shoes of famed prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, the first Ace Attorney protagonist you can control the overworld movements of. Edgeworth, the former disciple of Manfred von Karma, receives some much-needed attention and character development in these titles. Initially portrayed as a brooding, snobby antagonist in the original Ace Attorney, Edgeworth showcases his more confidently awkward, justice-seeking, humorous side in Investigations. Players get to witness the reasoning behind his post-traumatic fear of elevators and earthquakes as well as his relationships with Franziska von Karma and homicide detective Dick Gumshoe.

The first investigation begins in Edgeworth’s office, which had been raided while he was abroad. Not only were files stolen, but the murder of detective Buddy Faith occurred in that very room. Throughout the next few episodes, Edgeworth will be investigating this mysterious thief – named Yatagarasu – as well as a Borginian smuggling crime ring. Prosecutor’s Gambit takes its plot up a few notches, increasing the stakes tremendously. It opens with an attempted assassination of a foreign president and begins to unfold into issues more personal for Miles Edgeworth. Be prepared to travel to all sorts of locations, from a bougie airplane, to a prison, to a district court.

Saddled with unnecessary feelings

The first game is much more slowly paced than its sequel, but titillating nonetheless. The narrative is straightforward, circling around Interpol’s investigation of a smuggling ring, with Miles Edgeworth at the forefront. This is indeed a refreshing perspective away from Phoenix Wright, the typical main character. The most notable feature of the Investigations duology is the top-down overworld control of the protagonist, where players can openly walk around and interact with people and objects. This is quite different from the purer visual novel-likeness of mainline Ace Attorney games.

Miles Edgeworth in Ace Attorney Investigations 1

Prosecutor’s Gambit explores deeper topics, including Edgeworth’s identity crisis and life story; and each chapter keeps a steady tread going. Miles gets wrapped up in the “Prosecutor’s Purge” as well as the circumstances around his father Gregory Edgeworth’s final case before death, leaving Miles struggling with the meaning of his current job. Here, players get to see a lot of positive growth coming from Edgeworth and a further understanding of the IS-7 and DL-6 incidents.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection visual novel

Miles Edgeworth is an absolutely fun character to play as, with his charmingly awkward social skills, accidental humor, sharp wit, bluntness, and righteous attitude. It is pleasing to see his typical cold nature warm up a bit and how he interacts with others. There is also a wonderfully pleasant mix of both new and preexisting Ace Attorney characters, and while Investigations does not necessarily impact the narrative of the mainline games, it certainly fleshes things out a bit.

Eureka!

The collection is an upgrade from the original in every regard, plus the localization of Prosecutor’s Gambit is a big bonus.

Miles Edgeworth walking around

As aforementioned, Investigations is different due to its top-down movement-based exploration. The sequence of events carries out similarly, with the visual novel-esq debates, rebuttals, and cross-examinations. However, a big difference is that Miles Edgeworth receives the option to manually look around areas, examine items and clues, and deduce information from that point.

Debates come in bursts rather than prolonged trial segments, which I personally consider a great way to pace the story (especially for newcomers to the series). Miles Edgeworth has a unique logic ability where players must manually piece together hints and clues to formulate new revelations. For example, in episode one of the first game, you find a handgun on the ground. Gumshoe informs Miles that this is the same model as the guns issued to detectives. Players will use the logic function to match this information up with the victim, which you have deduced is a local detective. Thus, Edgeworth realizes that the murder weapon was indeed owned by the fallen victim. The culprit must have stolen it from Buddy Faith and used it against him.

The truth will reveal itself

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection has the typical mechanics of presenting evidence and pressing on for more information. Players have a meter at the top left corner of the screen. Of course, there is also only one answer to everything. If you continue to fail, this meter will deplete and you will run out of time to solve the case. For example, Miles will be booted off of the airplane and arrested immediately if the meter depletes in episode two.

Miles Edgeworth's logic ability

In Prosecutor’s Gambit, there is another new mechanic introduced: mind chess. During intense debates, Edgeworth and the opponent will be metaphorically placed in front of a chessboard background. Players must make quick choices in the correct order before time runs out. You can press for information or bide your time, hoping that silence will cause the opponent to crack. This is a timed activity so you must be fast, and observe specific character gestures to determine how they will react. This mechanic is . . . okay. Overall, I do not think it is necessary. These chess segments are not any more dramatic than regular debates, but it is still interesting to solve regardless. The downside to mind chess is how punishing a failure is. If players mess up, you have to begin the process all over again.

Something more incredible than lightening

Investigations 1 and 2 looks better than ever. The updated UI is smooth and easy to navigate, and the refined art style is spectacular. Players are free to switch between the new chibi sprites and the old-school DS graphics at will. There is also a large character compendium for players to see new and old versions of the cast. Certain characters will have clips of “objections” if available.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection HD chibi or DS sprite

The duology’s music is remastered, of course, and remains wonderfully dramatic and suspenseful. Some tracks are kind of hilarious with how over-the-top it is. Collection‘s music library also offers orchestrated versions of the soundtrack, providing hours of music to listen to.

Players can also unlock achievements, and none of them are particularly hard to get. Unlocking achievements can be as low-effort as progressing the storyline or as niche as selecting a certain piece of optional dialogue. The collection has a photo gallery and document library too, showcasing concept art of Investigations 1 and 2 as well as other Ace Attorney games! You have to play through all the episodes to unlock most of the art work.

Blue pawn is no match for the red knight’s might

Ace Attorney Investigations is also a pleasant deviation from the spiritual, supernatural side of things in the Ace Attorney series. If you are the see-it-to-believe-it type, Investigations is refreshingly grounded in reality, devoid of spirit mediums and psychic twitches.

Ace Attorney Great Thief Yatagarasu

To be honest, despite Miles Edgeworth’s supposed knack for logic, some of the puzzles take strange logical leaps. Despite leaning towards the side of legalities rather than courtroom drama, the game can still be rather silly and far-reaching. There were times I absolutely could not figure out how to progress despite the best use of my own logic, but oh well. It is all humor and fun with Ace Attorney.

I highly recommend playing the game on increased dialogue speed. You can select “story mode” which makes it automated, or just play as normal. But, I read a bit fast, and having it on normal speed can be a drag. I also turned off the flashing and rumbling. Despite being nostalgic Ace Attorney aesthetical gimmicks, it kind of got on my nerves!

It’s all coming together . . .

To have all ten Investigations cases on modern hardware translated into English is an absolute blessing for Ace Attorney fans. Newcomers and fans alike will enjoy the drama, deductive reasoning, detective work, and interactions between an amusing cast of characters.

Miles Edgeworth and co.

The stronger storyline falls within Prosecutor’s Gambit, but I find both plots to be enjoyable in their separate ways. Overall, the collection is incredibly accessible, easy to get into, and plays smoothly. There is a near-perfect balance of adventuring, puzzle-solving, and reading. I would highly recommend Ace Attorney Investigations Collection to anyone, whether you have never played Ace Attorney before, or even if you had played the original Investigations back in the day (if you were not a fan at the time, give this title another chance)!
