Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions to evolve

Today Sierra has announced that Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions will expand thanks to a new Evolved add on, which will update the core game with a super state of new challenges and features. It adds 40 new stages of fast-paced neon action to Adventure mode, including new boss battles, 3D grid shapes and gameplay types, as well as the mighty Sweeper drone and Detonator super ability. It also revises the previous level gating system, making it much easier for players to progress.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved includes a number of improvements. For instance, “Hardcore” mode lets players tackle 20 dedicated levels without using a drone or super, including individual leaderboards for no-loadout purists to compete for high scores.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved will be available as a free download for existing Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions owners in the UK on 31st March on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, as well as Windows PC, Mac and Linux via Steam. It will be available on 1st April on Xbox One and the Xbox 360.

For the new players, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions will become Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved when the update arrives, delivering the expanded experience at the same price across all marketplaces. The total package will feature over 100 total levels, with multiple bosses, grid types, drones and supers, as well as the same competitive (online) and cooperative (local) multiplayer Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions first launched with.

PlayStation Now Beta coming to UK this spring

Today Sony has announced that a private beta for PlayStation Now begins this spring in the UK (at last).

PlayStation Now is a game streaming service, which will lets you play PS3 games on PS4 using Gaikai’s cloud gaming technology.

PlayStation Plus members will given the opportunity to “be among the first” to use PlayStation Now, but you have to register your interest on PlayStation.com.

You register their interest to be involved in the later phases of the beta trial.

The closed beta is available to users in the UK on PS4 only, Sony said, and will be free of charge during the initial stage of the beta. Here’s the small print:

  • Taking part in the PS Now private beta trial will initially be free of charge – however, at later stages of the trial we will be testing rental periods and pricing models, which will require payment.

When PS Now launches in the UK you’ll be able to stream games at a “low rental cost”, initially to PS4 then to other devices, including PS3, PS Vita and Sony Bravia TVs starting with model model KD-X9500B, KD-X9000B, KD-S9005B, KD-X8500B, KDL-W950B, KDL-W850B, KDL-W800B, KDL-W700B, KDL-W600B, KDL-W585B and Series onwards.

You will need a DualShock 4 or DualShock 3 wireless controller and a broadband internet connection (minimum 5mbps recommended).

BANDAI NAMCO has released new assets for DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin, available 2nd April for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and STEAM for Direct X11 enabled PCs.

To reward DARK SOULS beloved community, a new patch is now available for existing DARK SOULS II owners free of charge. The update will give players access to The Scholar, a new NPC to shed new light on the DARK SOULS II story, as well as expanded item descriptions, online matchmaking improvements and other gameplay tweaks.

 

DARK SOULS II: Scholar of the First Sin new vision for DARK SOULS II will include updated graphics and performance, new enemy placement, increase in online players, additional gameplay enhancements, all three DLC missions released for DARK SOULS II (Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King, and Crown of the Ivory King), as well as all the new content found in the update mentioned above, currently available for DARK SOULS II players.

 

DARK SOULS II Scholar of the First Sin will also be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and digitally for PC DirectX 9 systems on 2nd April.

Nintendo Co Ltd and DeNA Co Ltd has today entered into a business and capital alliance to develop and operate new game apps for smart devices and build a new multi-device membership service for consumers worldwide.

Leveraging the strength of Nintendo’s intellectual property (IP) and game development skills in combination with DeNA’s world-class expertise in mobile games, both companies will develop and operate new game apps based on Nintendo’s IP, including its iconic game characters, for smart devices. The alliance is intended to complement Nintendo’s dedicated video game systems business and extend Nintendo’s reach into the vast market of smart device users worldwide. Under the alliance, DeNA will also be able to strengthen its gaming business at a global scale by leveraging Nintendo’s IP. To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimised for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the Wii U home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system.

In order to create completely new game experiences for smart devices, all Nintendo IP will be eligible for development and exploration by the alliance. As these consumers enjoy the unique kind of gameplay found only with Nintendo, they will have the opportunity to explore even more premium experiences on Nintendo’s dedicated video game platforms. Information on upcoming games and availability will be forthcoming.

Nintendo and DeNA also plan to develop an online membership service that is accessible from smart devices, PC and Nintendo systems, such as the Nintendo 3DS portable system and the Wii U home console. The membership service, which is targeted to launch in the fall of 2015, will be built on DeNA’s extensive experience and capabilities in online membership services.

As part of the long-term relationship and commitment by each company, Nintendo and DeNA have also agreed to form a capital alliance. Under the capital alliance, Nintendo will acquire 15,081,000 of DeNA’s treasury shares, which corresponds to 10.00 percent of its total outstanding stock, for a total of approximately 22 billion yen. DeNA will simultaneously acquire 1,759,400 of Nintendo’s treasury shares, which corresponds to 1.24 percent of its outstanding stock, for a total of approximately 22 billion yen. The payment is due 2nd April, 2015.

Also in the announcement of Nintendo making smartphones games via DeNA it also announced a new next generation console with more new details coming next year called Nintendo NX , with the struggling of the Wii U, the company is looking on to pastures new.

What does the new announcement mean for the Nintendo 3DS, with the the company’s popular handheld that only recently saw a revised model launch, is not clear yet. It’s certainly making the company a fair chunk of change, but with a smartphone in every pocket, Nintendo may begin to see a dedicated portable console of its own extraneous to its needs. What will the Nintendo NX be will it be a smartphone or portable hybrid we have to wait until next year to find out.

PLAYTONIC GAMES, which is a new development studio formed by the talent behind renowned adventure series such as Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, revealed over the weekend the first details of its debut game PROJECT UKULELE (working title) at the EGX Rezzed expo in London.

PLAYTONIC was formed in 2014 by veterans of Rare Ltd, including Steve Mayles, creator of the beloved Banjo and Kazooie characters, and Chris Sutherland, the software engineer responsible for more than two decades of iconic games. Between them, the seven-person PLAYTONIC team has over 100 years of combined experience working on blockbuster franchises.

PROJECT UKULELE, an all-new 3D platformer adventure, has been conceptualised as a spiritual successor to the team’s most revered and successful releases of the past, with stunning worlds to explore, unique collectables to uncover, fun moves to learn and hilarious characters to meet – or defeat.

At EGX Rezzed the PLAYTONIC team pledged to recapture the spirit of their previous releases, while enforcing their reputation for innovative, fun gameplay with game worlds that players not only explore, but expand and unlock in a totally free-form structure.

The team also announced its intention to launch a Kickstarter program in May 2015, in order to greatly expand the scope of PROJECT UKULELE and ensure the creative freedom required to make the game that fans want to play.

EA are set to release the first expansion pack for The Sims 4 called Get to Work and we got some time with it.

In The Sims 4 Get to Work players will take active control of their Sims while they’re at work and determine whether they are headed towards the big promotion or becoming the workplace menace.  Jump to the rescue and save countless lives as a Doctor, torment your neighbours with mischievous inventions as a Scientist, or investigate crime scenes and crack the big cases as a Detective.  Additionally, players with an entrepreneurial spirit can decide to set up shop to create, customize, and manage their own Sim retail businesses to become a Simoleonaire!  However players choose to get to work, this expansion pack will introduce new venues, skills and other fun gameplay elements to their The Sims 4 experience.
