Xbox One will only work in 21 Regions for Launch

0

It’s been revealed that Microsoft’s next-gen console will only work in certain regions at launch.

Xbox One pic 2
This restriction comes from Xbox Live capabilities, meaning those that don’t live in a country supported by the service at launch won’t be able to authenticate their games. The console requires you to sign in at least once every 24 hours.

Most of our readers will probably be safe as the UK is one of the 21 regions that will be supported, but it’s interesting to see that the entirety of Africa has been excluded, as have Japan and China. This same restriction applies to the majority of countries West of the UK, with the exception of Russia. A handful of European countries will be supported, but a large chunk won’t. Croatia, Turkey, Greece and even Portugal are amongst those that have seemingly been left out.
This information came from a pre-order information page on the Xbox website. A disclaimer on the page reads “Xbox One games are for activation and distribution only in specified geographic regions,” a disclaimer on the Xbox One reservation page says.”
Japan – which is excluded for the time being – is expecting an Xbox One launch in 2014, so we’re unsure as to how long it will take for other countries to gain support.

Microsoft Details New Achievement System

Microsoft is overhauling it’s achievement system in order to “deliver more interesting, complex, and fulfilling goals and rewards to you”, according to Xbox Live Achievements program manager Cierra McDonald.
The biggest change is that video and music apps can now offer Achievements, although they won’t give you an additional points towards your gamescore, but will instead offer you various bonuses and rewards, across video, music and games. Rewards may include the likes of digital artwork, new maps, characters, temporary stat boosts, sneak peek content, early access, or subscription extensions.

Xbox_One_Logo.jpg

To make this possible, Achievements now come in two categories – challenges and achievements (lower case ‘a’).   An achievement will be available from launch and will be available at an time. A challenge, on the other hand, is an “opportunity” which sets a goal and offers a reward. You must complete this within a certain time frame, and it cannot affect your Gamerscore. Challenges may be set for a community rather than individual player.

Both appear  achievements and challenges will appear in your Achievements list with an icon, and may include a DVR capture of the moment you unlocked it.

What do you think of this idea, good or slightly over the top? The cynics in us can’t help but think that there will be challenges for buying movies and music. Could this be the case?

Indy Cars Coming to Forza Motorsport 5 for Xbox One

0

Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios, the creators of the “Forza Motorsport” Xbox series of racing games, have announced today that open-wheel cars will be making their series debut in “Forza Motorsport 5” for Xbox One. For the first time ever, players will be able to drive open-wheel cars, including current and historic grand prix racing cars, as well as race cars from the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Forza 5 Indy Cars

“Including open-wheel cars in ‘Forza Motorsport 5’ brings ‘Forza’ fans a whole new world of racing action,” said Alan Hartman, studio manager for Turn 10 Studios. “Players will be able to drive these incredible cars on a collection of world-famous race circuits as well as our Prague city track, which we debuted this week at E3. In addition, the brand new graphics engine in ‘Forza Motorsport 5,’ powered by the Xbox One, will let ‘Forza’ players get closer than ever to these amazing cars and to really build an appreciation for these masterpieces of race engineering.”

For the first time, “Forza Motorsport 5” will feature Formula 1 cars, including the 1976 McLaren M23 and the 1976 Ferrari 312-2 cars driven by Niki Lauda and James Hunt, respectively, during the 1976 F1 Season.  These models are the same cars featured in Universal Pictures’ upcoming Rush, an epic action-drama directed by Academy Award® winner Ron Howard, and will be available as a free download to all “Forza Motorsport 5” players at launch.

In addition, IndyCar race cars will be making their series debut in “Forza Motorsport 5.” The game will feature cars representing four of the top teams in the IZOD IndyCar Series: Andretti Autosport, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Target Chip Ganassi Racing, and Team Penske.

“IndyCar fans have been asking to see IZOD IndyCar Series cars in a console game for some time, and partnering with industry leaders such as Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios certainly satisfies that wish,” said Greg Gruning, executive vice president for Corporate Business Development, INDYCAR. “We couldn’t have better partners to showcase our sport to a young, technology-driven demographic than with the platform provided by the Xbox One and ‘Forza Motorsports 5.’”

The open-wheel announcement was made during the “Forza Motorsport 5” showcase in Los Angeles as part of E3 2013, an event celebrating the upcoming release of “Forza Motorsport 5.” The event featured numerous celebrity appearances, including 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan, two-time IndyCar Series Champion Scott Dixon, 2011 Firestone Indy Lights Champion Josef Newgarden, and more. In addition, showcase attendees were treated to an exclusive look at Rush, featuring never-before-seen footage of the film, which will make its U.S. debut on September 20, 2013.

Pokémon Video Game Director Reveals New Battle Scenarios

0

Masuda, Director at GAME FREAK inc., joined Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, at Nintendo’s E3 Developer Roundtable on Tuesday evening in Los Angeles to discuss Pokémon history. And share new features debuting in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games when they launch worldwide October 12, 2013, for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

Mr. Masuda revealed a new communication feature debuting in Pokémon X and Pokémon YPlayer Search System or PSS. He also showcased two new battle scenarios players will come across when exploring the Kalos region—Horde Encounters and Sky Battles. These new ways to battle will require Pokémon Trainers to plan accordingly and build a Pokémon party that can withstand a multitude of Pokémon or take on flying Pokémon high in the sky.

Clauncher_Flingouste_Scampisto_screenshot_1

The PSS allows players to connect, battle, and trade with other players nearby and around the world. PSS makes it easy to find other people playing Pokémon X or Pokémon Y near you or even on the other side of the world. When the new communication feature is on, PSS alerts players when someone nearby is playing Pokémon X or Pokémon Y and gives you the option to battle or trade with them wirelessly. Players with an Internet connection can also connect with Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players anywhere in the world via the PSS, making it easy to battle or trade with others close by or thousands of miles away.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn2ZZb88gRw?feature=player_embedded%5D

When Pokémon like Houndour, Axew, Tauros, and Miltank appear en masse in the wild in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, players will be facing a Horde Encounter. In past Pokémon titles, Pokémon battles have always involved the same number of Pokémon on both sides, like a regular one-on-one match or a Triple Battle. Horde Encounters take battling to a new, intense level that forces a player to battle against multiple wild Pokémon that attack all at once—with only a single Pokémon on the player’s side. Players will need to ensure their Pokémon has moves that can attack multiple Pokémon at once or they may quickly find themselves on the losing end of the battle.

Select Trainers you encounter in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will challenge players to Sky Battles—fierce battles that take the action high above ground. While players traverse the Kalos region, Trainers standing high on cliffs or in other distant places will want to battle, but players can only participate if they have certain Pokémon in their party that can fly. The Sky Battle is a visually stunning battle scenario and an exciting new addition to Pokémon video games.

Never-before-seen Pokémon made their debut at Nintendo’s E3 Developer Roundtable:

·         An evolved form of the recently announced Fletchling, Talonflame, is a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon that gains a whole new level of speed and firepower. Reaching speeds of up to 310 mph when diving for its prey, Talonflame can attack its foes with devastating kicks while embers spew from its body as it zooms through the sky. Talonflame knows Brave Bird, one of the strongest Flying-type moves. Use Brave Bird carefully, though, because the incredible strength of this move also does damage to the user.

·         The Water Gun Pokémon Clauncher uses its one oversized claw not only to seize prey but also to shoot condensed water at others as a projectile. This capability is so intense that it can crack a boulder! A Water-type Pokémon, Clauncher can also use its giant claw to crush opponents with the powerful Water-type move Crabhammer, which is more likely to land a critical hit. Critical hits against opposing Pokémon will do twice the usual damage.

·         Some would say that the Poison- and Water-type Pokémon Skrelp appears to be nothing more than a rotting piece of kelp, but don’t let its appearance fool you. Using its unique look to its benefit, Skrelp pretends to be a piece of seaweed, and when prey wander past it, Skrelp bathes them in poison so they can’t struggle when it attacks. Skrelp uses the Poison-type move Sludge Bomb, a move that can leave opposing Pokémon poisoned. A poisoned Pokémon will slowly take damage over the length of a battle.

It was also revealed that Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are the first Pokémon titles that allow players the choice to play the game in one of seven languages: English, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, German, or Spanish.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has been confirmed for a Wii U release by Infinity Ward.

Wii-U.jpgCall of Duty Ghosts Logo Black
Third part support on Wii U has been lacking it seems, so it will come as fantastic news for Nintendo fans that one of the biggest games of the year will be on their favourite system.
Infinity Ward’s executive producer Mark Rubin confirmed the news during an event, as reported by Gamespot via CVG.
“That’s probably in the next-gen bin, but we’re not actually talking about Wii U yet. ‘Cause we want to keep it mysterious,” Rubin said before confirming that the game will launch alongside PS4 and Xbox One editions.
