Review: Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines

Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines is a much-anticipated sequel. Its predecessor was heralded as a platforming masterpiece. Accordingly, I couldn’t wait to get my teeth into the sequel. I chanced my hand at this demo at WASD and loved every second. However, the bite-size encounter wasn’t enough. This review allowed me to get my fill, and boy did I enjoy every second!

This 2D platformer was developed by Medallion Games and published by Super Rare Originals. Moreover, it is a fast-paced single-player experience that will test your reactions and your nerves. If the hectic gameplay isn’t enough, the amusing characters and witty dialogue were the icing on the cake. You’ll chuckle throughout as each character adds layers of depth that enhance this colourful experience.

Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines tells a tale of doom and gloom.

The world may be vibrant and wonderful to look at, but the outlook is doom and gloom. The hero, Pablo may have saved the world once, but his skills are being requested again. An evil force has ripped through space and time and Pablo and Luna must work together to make things right. Each of these pups has a certain skill set, and by mastering those abilities, you’ll save the day.

The story may lack originality, but I didn’t care! The juxtaposing personalities were fantastic. Pablo is a bumbling hero who is so laid back that he’s almost horizontal. Luna, on the other hand, has attitude and doesn’t trust her partner. Each of these heroes pushes the other to their limit as they explore a lush array of levels looking for fruit, mysterious gems, and treasure chests.

A familiar gameplay loop.

Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines uses tried and tested mechanics. This may seem lazy, but it works extremely well. You must traverse several worlds and many intermediate stages. As you explore each area, you control one of the heroes. The protagonist must collect fruit whilst searching for 3 gems. En route, you’ll find hidden locations and a cosmetic item for your grapple hook.

The action concludes with a boss encounter of epic proportions. You’ll have to use every trick up your sleeve if you wish to win. Pablo must use his grapple hook, punch, and rolling ability to inflict damage and avoid any blows. Luna will dash, swing, and shoot everything in her way. This strange combination takes some getting used to, but once you master everything, you’ll adore the fast action and the challenges you must overcome.

Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines looks fantastic.

This mixes old-school aesthetics with a modern finish. The result is a fantastic game that keeps you coming back for more. Additionally, the colourful backdrops are interesting and the stage design is intelligent. Though the hidden areas are unnecessary, it was fun to find each one. Alongside this, I adored the chance to swing from balloons or the solid blue platforms. This creates a rapid platform parkour title that rarely falters.

The audio matches the vibrant colour palette. The exciting soundtrack is filled with high-energy songs that demand you go faster. Moreover, the simple but effective sound effects were great. I loved every crash, bang, and wallop as you flew through the air or took down each monster.

Excellent controls.

A platformer lives and dies by its controls and stage design. The latter was incredible and thankfully, so were the controls. The accurate inputs are easy to master. Additionally, the opening level acts as a tutorial to get you in the mood. Luna was a little challenging to get used to, but once you mastered the twin-stick shooting, you flew through each level.

I don’t normally push for 100% completion or time trials. There is a limited draw for me to return for more. However, Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines got its claws into me. I adored the short burst time trials and the fun games as you explored each world. Furthermore, finding every gem and treasure chest was enjoyable but challenging.

Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines is an incredible sequel.

Tackling a high-end 2D platform title is an absolute treat. Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines ticks every box for every platforming fan. The graphics are wonderful and the audio is energetic. Additionally, the action is fun and rarely outstays its welcome. On top of this, the time trials are short and challenging and every element is smooth and well presented. Accordingly, it is a phenomenal experience and I recommend buying it here! Can the pups save the world? Master your hook, find every collectable, and banish the darkness.

Review: Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard

The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard is a user-friendly accessory ideal for smaller workstations and people with limited customisation knowledge. Accordingly, it is a plug-and-play device that focuses on style, accuracy, and an excellent user experience. Moreover, it is the latest addition to the AURA F Series. As such, if you are familiar with Epomaker’s previous iterations, you’ll know exactly what to expect

If you are unaware of this incredible gaming keyboard series, let me fill you in. You can enjoy 3 forms of connectivity and some market-leading acoustic technology. Moreover, you can hot-swap the switches and the keycaps to create your perfect set-up. If that isn’t enough, it has vibrant south-facing RGB and full-size functionality via the FN key input. This was great as you get all the might of a full-sized keyboard without compromising usability or design.

What’s in the box of the Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard?

  • The packaging is vibrant and futuristic. Furthermore, it is compact and robust. As such, the contents are well protected.
  • The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard comes in 2 colours. I picked the black version with the south-facing fonts. This gave the keyboard a mysterious and alluring look.
  • A USB dongle is provided for wireless connectivity.
  • The USB cable charges the device or it creates a wired connection.
  • Pull the keycaps with the provided puller.
  • Learn the fundamentals with the manual.

Technical aspects.

The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard is an affordable device that has 3 modes of connectivity. The wired option is simple to set up and offers zero latency issues. Consequently, it is ideal if you are good with cable management and want a low-fuss approach. The wireless and Bluetooth modes can be selected with the flick of a switch. Subsequently, they are easy to use and are ideal if you need a portable device. The wireless connections delivered low-latency results and were perfect for gaming and typing.

If you plump for the wireless option, you’ll be pleased to know that the battery life is incredible. 4,000 mAh battery capacity keeps you in the game for longer. Moreover, you can check your battery status using the in-built RGB lighting. This was great as you rarely run out of juice. What’s more, you can continue playing whilst the battery charges.

Build quality.

The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard is a 65% form factor device with 67 keys. Accordingly, it is much smaller than your standard full-size option. Now, this may seem inconvenient, but it isn’t. No matter if you game or type, this small size will not let you down. The vivid south-facing RGB creates a pleasant hue without overpowering your senses. I love RGB as much as the next person, but I hate it when it washes out every other light source. Accordingly, this has the balance just right.

The keycaps are hard-wearing and durable. The south-facing fonts will not fade and the keycaps are tough enough to withstand hours of use. The provided switches are tough and responsive as well. Consequently, if you don’t wish to customise this device, it is perfect as you take it from the box. However, you can pull the keycaps and play with every switch if you so wish. This was great as you can create the perfect device for any situation.

Finally, this mechanical keyboard has that delightful clacky sound. The multi-layer build generates a wholesome sound that enhances the thwack of each key. Luckily, like the RGB, it isn’t too OTT and it strikes the right chords. The sound is boosted by the Flex-cut PC plate. This additional layer is designed for a softer typing experience without jeopardising that classing mechanical soundscape.

Usability.

The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard is a great device for newbie pc gamers. The hot swap switches are a cinch to change, and pulling every keycap is a simple task. Alongside this, you can change connectivity modes with ease and you can alter the RGB settings with the FN key. This is great as you can enjoy customisable gaming without the need to solder. What’s more, you can show off your creative side without having to play with too many settings. Accordingly, it is the perfect device for inexperienced gamers.

Is the Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard worth it?

The Epomaker x AULA F65 keyboard is available for under $60! This is amazing value when you consider the customisation options and the technology. It is rare to get all gaming boxes ticked for this price point. However, Epomaker has achieved this task with ease. The RGB is fantastic and I loved the build quality. Moreover, the small form factor is ideal for compact workspaces. As such, I love it and I recommend buying it here!

A Closer Look

Final Thoughts

The Mattel Imaginext R2-D2 Interactive Star Wars toy is quite large, standing at around 59cm when all extended.

It comes with 3 AA batteries (which is useful) and there is a switch on the rear side for power off or two different volume options. You need to fit R2-D2’s feet when you take him out of the box, but they just click into place easily.

C3-PO sits on a power pad – when you turn him one way, lights, sounds and R2-D2’s projectile arm and spinning saw blade appear from the front. You can use the supplied projectile disks to fire around the room, just slot them in place and press to launch.

Turning C3-PO the other way puts the arm and blade away.

Mattel Imaginext R2-D2 Interactive Star Wars toy is a great toy for young Star Wars fans – perhaps this is the droid you’re looking for.

The Mattel Imaginext R2-D2 Interactive Star Wars toy is available now priced around £79.99 from the Disney Store.

Review: Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller

Nintendo certifies some of the best accessories available. Not only do they look great, but they have some elite features to impress every user. The Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller from PDP doesn’t disappoint. This Super Mario-themed accessory glows in the dark and uses Boo for a ghostly surprise. This was fantastic as the gamepad looks incredible during the daylight and when you play at night.

Aesthetically, this is a pleasing item. However, it is its usability that impressed me most. The customisable rear buttons add elite-level vibes that cannot be ignored. Additionally, the ergonomic design is comfortable during lengthy gaming sessions. Talking about marathon moments, the 40-hour battery life keeps you in the game for nearly 2 days! This was insane and I couldn’t believe how good the battery was.

In short, this is a pretty special controller that should be on your radar. Yet, I’ve barely scratched the surface and this review will highlight every key element.

What’s in the box of the Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller?

  • The packaging is simple but effective. I like the striking imagery and its robust nature.
  • The Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller feels great to hold. Moreover, the livery is wonderful and the layout is familiar.
  • Charge the controller with the USB cable.
  • Learn the basics with the user manual.

Technical aspects.

The Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller supports motion control. This was a nice touch that increases the intuitive nature of this accessory. What’s more, it is something that Nintendo users have come to expect. Consequently, I’d have been disappointed if this key feature was missing.

This wireless accessory uses a strong connection that is rarely interrupted. A 30-foot range with low-latency wireless connectivity can be enjoyed. This was fantastic as no one wants their inputs to lag behind. No matter which genre I played, this excellent controller kept up with ease.

Customising the rear-mounted buttons was a cinch. Moreover, they are placed where your fingers naturally rest. As such, though it takes a little getting used to, your fingers don’t feel strained or uncomfortable. The on-the-fly customisation was perfect if you change genres. No matter what game you played, you can adjust the buttons to match your requirements. Alternatively, you can ignore them altogether and this will appeal to old-school gamers.

Build quality.

The Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller is exceptionally well built. The ergonomic design sits in your hands and feels amazing to hold. Additionally, as this is an officially certified controller, the button layout is identical to Nintendo’s products. This was ideal for fussy gamers who don’t like to change.

Gaming is as much about the accuracy as it is about the looks. Thankfully, this gamepad ticks both boxes. The daylight livery is great to look at and it captures Nintendo’s fun side. Once the lights go out, the glow-in-the-dark image is amazing. Subsequently, I loved its vibrant style and clean lines.

The inputs have a lovely travel distance and the actuation points are responsive. Accordingly, you won’t miss a beat as you tackle every nemesis or race high-speed cars. Furthermore, the rear buttons are fantastic to use. Finally, this controller is built to last. The hard shell can take some punishment and the ports are strong and well positioned. Therefore, if you are getting this for younger gamers, you know they won’t smash it the first time it takes a tumble.

Is the Boo Hoo REMATCH GLOW Wireless controller worth it?

Nintendo is renowned for its expensive products. Thankfully, PDP is more generous as this controller can be purchased for around £50. This may seem like a high price tag, but it has wireless connectivity, an exceptional battery, and customisable buttons and it glows in the dark. Accordingly, it is amazing and I recommend buying it here!

Review: Hollowbody

Developed and published by Headware Games, Hollowbody is a Silent Hill 2-esque third person survival horror game.

Hollowbody’s initial release coincided with the announcement of Silent Hill 2’s remake and at the time this nostalgia bait had many cravings satisfied.

Now, with the Silent Hill 2 out, the question arises if Hollowbody still gives any reason to push that buy button.

Sorry Hero, your princess is in another castle

The plot of HollowBody is of a girl looking for her sister in a disease ridden and abandoned city. The relationship of the two sisters is kept at the forefront of everything that happens in this game. It is the main motivation that has led us to this destroyed and abandoned world that is seconds from complete collapse.

Every now and then our Miss MC finds telephones. These phones would have a very creepy voice talk to us, often calling us a murderer or a liar or something along the lines.  You can already imagine where this is going but I won’t say the big spoiler bit.

Unlike Silent Hill, the setting of Hollowbody is an incredibly striking post-cyberpunk city that truly stands out. Every moment spent exploring this vibrant yet eerie environment feels immersive and captivating.

At times, it might feel like you’re simply wandering through a walking simulator, but that’s far from a negative. The atmosphere is so rich and intense that even casual exploration is rewarding. The tension that hangs in the air keeps you on edge, ensuring that every corner you turn could lead to something surprising or unsettling.

This combination of breathtaking visuals and gripping atmosphere makes traversing the city a joy, even if the focus is not always on action. In essence, the journey itself becomes a significant part of the experience, drawing players deeper into the haunting world of Hollowbody.

Silent Hill clone?

No need to mince any words, HollowBody is a deliberate #Homage to the early Silent Hill games.(especially Silent Hill 2) But that is not where it all ends.

Looking beyond the nostalgia factor, it’s important to recognize the strong gameplay choices that Hollowbody offers. The setting of an abandoned post-cyberpunk city, filled with disease and decay, creates one of the most captivating atmospheres I’ve experienced in a game for quite some time. This unique environment draws you in, making every corner of the city feel rich with story and tension.

The controls in Hollowbody are notably smooth and responsive, allowing players to navigate the unsettling landscape with ease. While the game draws inspiration from Silent Hill, it manages to capture that essence without feeling clunky or awkward. This fluidity enhances the overall experience, making it easier to immerse yourself in the eerie world.

When it comes to combat, the mechanics feel weighty and impactful, adding to the thrill of each encounter. There’s a genuine sense of reward when you find yourself in a tight spot and manage to escape using just a single bullet and a sliver of health. These moments keep the adrenaline pumping and make each victory feel hard-earned, adding depth to the gameplay that keeps you coming back for more. Overall, Hollowbody masterfully combines atmosphere, controls, and combat, creating a truly memorable experience.

Worth the Try!

If this review did not spell it out for you, I liked this game. However, I also really liked Silent Hill 2 OG and am a little iffy on the new one.

Hollowbody is more than just a nod to classic horror; it combines storytelling, atmosphere, and gameplay in a way that appeals to both newcomers and long-time fans. If you’re looking for a gripping horror experience that keeps you on your toes, this is a game you shouldn’t miss.

Review: PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack

PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack continues my unhealthy obsession with cleaning grim arenas. However, at least this one is filled with amusing fantasy moments that capture every protagonist’s hilarious attitude. Furthermore, there are some zany levels to clean as you tackle mountains of dirt, grime, and fairy dust.

This revolting simulation experience was developed by FuturLab and published by Square Enix. Moreover, this is a game that can be enjoyed alone or with friends online. Sadly, there is no couch cooperative action and this makes me want to cry. Yet, if you have like-minded friends on the World Wide Web, then you can work together to clean every grotty location.

PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack tells bite-size stories.

Like the base game, PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack doesn’t focus on a central story. Instead, you enjoy whacky messages from key characters. The texts come from the protagonist of each stage and they offer some light relief. Though the information rarely makes sense, you will chuckle as it gives you a brief respite.

This DLC is formed of 5 levels. 2 are massive, 1 is large and the remaining 2 are just right. The opening and 4th stages will drive you mad. The eye for detail and never-ending items will keep you busy for hours. I played this alone and I must have sunk 8 hours into these 2 stages. Thankfully, the other levels aren’t so crazy and can be completed in an hour or so. The monstrous stage design dwarves the other DLCs and I was impressed by the design and the familiar scenes.

The gameplay doesn’t change.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! This is a motto that PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack lives by. Accordingly, if you are familiar with the franchise, you’ll jump straight into the action. You are provided with a pressure washer, some nozzles, a few lengths of pipe, and some kind words. After this, you must get to work and clean every mucky surface.

This DLC asks you to tackle Dragon’s lair, the Fairy Godmother’s potion lab, Duloc, Shrek’s swamp, and Hansel’s Honeymoon Hideaway. Each of these locations was great as they are OTT and full of hidden Easter eggs. Furthermore, there are moving parts, secret compartments, and plenty of fiddly things to clean. Compared to other DLC, this one is particularly challenging. Yet, if you have friends who love to clean, you can get through this pretty quickly. If you game alone, you will have to grin and bear every lavish and enormous stage.

PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack looks great.

Who’d have thought that dirt would be so pretty? The vivid colours enhance the fantasy edge. What’s more, there are nice nods to the theme. Every level has pleasant Easter eggs that’ll make you smile. Moreover, the developer has let their creative juices flow. Consequently, there are some weird and whacky contraptions to clean.

My biggest complaint with this franchise is the audio. The constant whoosh of water drives me mad. Yet, I’ve enjoyed this one more than before. The occasional strange sound effect and the varied water noises help to break things up.

Grab a present while you clean the town in PowerWash Simulator - Shrek Special Pack.

Excellent controls.

I’ve played every DLC in the franchise. Subsequently, I’m comfortable with the controls. However, if you are inexperienced, a helpful controller guide is always available. The control setup is easy to understand and you’ll master it in minutes.

Unfortunately, the replay value is limited. There are some achievements to unlock if that’s your thing, but if that doesn’t float your boat, there are limited reasons to return. Luckily, each stage is an epic task, so this proves to be great value for money.

PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack is worth the investment.

If you love simulation games and this franchise, then this is worth the investment. PowerWash Simulator – Shrek Special Pack is fun, colourful, and unbelievably zany. Additionally, it hides plenty of secrets and the stage design is impressive. Accordingly, I like it and recommend buying it here! Can you clean the land of Far Far Away? Grab your machine, observe the dirt, and let the water do the talking.

Review: Deathbound

Deathbound is an interesting 4-party souls-like that blends dated technology with futuristic ideas. This odd combination is a little jarring as everything felt somewhat out of sorts. Yet, the action looks fantastic and it has that cruel edge the genre is renowned for. Additionally, the combination of 4 players in one entity is an intriguing concept.

This souls-like adventure title was developed by Trialforge Studio and published by Tate Multimedia Sp. Furthermore, it is a lore-riddled experience that is truly fascinating. However, it has its problems as slow animations and wayward hitboxes cause you to die and crumble more often than not. This was infuriating and not in the usual genre way. We’ve all come to accept the brutality and nuances of Souls games, but when glitches are added to the mix, it’s just not fair.

Deathbound is a story of science against religion.

The city of Akratya is a dangerous place. This once-thriving location is filled with deadly creatures that shouldn’t be tackled alone. Luckily, “The Fallen” can bind together to create a unique and destructive force that is hard to beat. This team of mixed skills, beliefs, and personalities must put their differences aside as they wander the grim world.

The story is fascinating and the drip-fed lore and interesting NPCs add so much depth that you will be hooked. Moreover, each of the “Essences” interacts with the surrounding world for skill buffs, additional lore, or the occasional secret. This was fascinating as you had to adapt to your surroundings to get the best out of the game.

Alongside this, the party of characters have strengths and weaknesses that must be complemented throughout. Some enjoy melee weapons and others ranged or magic. You must work out what combination works at any specific time. Furthermore, each boss battle requires a specific approach. Accordingly, working out the best formation of heroes is essential.

So many creatures.

Though your party may be ultra-powerful and the use of incredible “Morph Strikes” can help, the combat and mob swarms are challenging. No matter where you go, you’ll encounter multiple enemies at once. This shouldn’t be a problem, but the combat is occasionally clumsy. The input reactions are slow and inconsistencies with strike accuracy will frustrate you. Consequently, when you have 3 or more monsters swarming you, you will struggle.

This issue is compounded by the sluggish animation. Once you execute an action, there is no going back. As such, if you use a potion or dodge to avoid a strike, you have to see this through. This was annoying as hell as you are left in limbo while the game thinks about catching up. The slow animation wouldn’t be a problem if you could cancel each action. However, this wasn’t to be and this causes untold misery.

Bonfires in Deathbound

Bonfires are the normal checkpoints of the Souls genre. Deathbound uses Phylacteries as its checkpoint of choice. Here you may rest, save, and level up your character or team. This wasn’t anything new and veterans will be familiar with this mechanic. Yet, there is a nice twist in the form of memories. This layer is used to add buffs to each character. These elements are essential as they can increase your ability to Morph Strike or add other much-needed effects.

Alongside this, there are special items that can be used to improve each essence. The amulet and rings improve your core stats and skills and they can be upgraded by finding rare objects throughout the world. Though this is a simple concept, I loved it nonetheless.

Bosses.

This genre is all about its world design and the incredible bosses you encounter. Unfortunately, Deathbound doesn’t get either quite right. The bosses are unusual but not fascinating enough. Additionally, they look messy and their hitboxes are just as strange. Unfortunately, the lack of definitive hit locations makes the combat feel unjustly harsh. Moreover, when this is combined with the slow animation, you are in a losing battle.

The world design is equally bizarre. Deathbound implies that the “First Men” was an advanced culture with reasonable technological advantages. Yet, the environment rarely reflects this status. Instead, there is a blend of dated tech that contradicts this idea. The lack of consistency was bizarre and I couldn’t work out what era the game was set in.

Deathbound looks great despite the mixed messages.

Though the stage design was odd, Deathbound looks fantastic. The Brazilian studio has put a lot of effort into its stage and character design. The grim world is wonderful to explore even though I found it confusing. Furthermore, though the animation is slow, the combat looks great. Yes, I had issues with clipping scenery or ghosting through monsters, but this wasn’t that common. Consequently, despite the issues, this is a reasonably well-polished experience.

The acting and the music were great. There is a real sense of depth and drama as the game unfolds. Moreover, the daunting soundtrack creates an ominous atmosphere whenever you tackle the gigantic bosses. The sound effects were effective but familiar. There is a sense of deja vu as the fantasy sounds could be from any other game. Subsequently, the developer has done a nice job with their audio.

Sluggish controls.

Exploring the world and working as a team was great fun. However, the aforementioned combat issues hold this back. Deathbound should have done better with its combat elements. When most of the game requires an element of finesse, sluggish controls are the last thing you want.

Thanks to the many character builds and the ability to level up, this has plenty of replay value and longevity. However, the issues caused unnecessary frustration and that was problematic. If you can overlook these shortcomings, you’ll enjoy a lore-filled experience that looks great.

Deathbound is a wonderfully cruel game.

Loving souls-like games is a cruel and often challenging hobby. Sadly Deathbound doesn’t get everything right, but it is an interesting twist on tried and tested mechanics. I loved its dark ways and the visuals. Moreover, the audio is exceptional. Sadly its problems prevent it from excelling and this will disappoint hardcore fans. Yet, I enjoyed my time with it and recommend buying it here! Can you restore order? Choose your hero, select your path, and work together for the greater good.

Review: CLICKid CAM10

The CLICKid CAM10 is the perfect product for would-be photographers. This lightweight but robust device lets younger children snap pictures to their heart’s content. Furthermore, it comes with a 32 GB memory card so they can take thousands of photographs or hours of video footage without running out of space. Though the camera isn’t the most powerful available, it is more than suitable for budding artists who wish to capture everything they see.

There are stickers, games, and a clear display screen to view every picture or video you’ve captured. This is perfect if your children love to show off their art before they have got home. Additionally, they can access every file and remove anything that doesn’t meet their standards. After all, there is no point in keeping blurry pictures and you don’t want to miss out on snapping that sunset or the photo of your family pet.

What’s in the box of the CLICKid CAM10?

  • The box is compact and simple. The clear images and key selling points highlight the benefits of this item. Moreover, the packaging can be recycled.
  • The CLICKid CAM10 is surprisingly small. I expected something more cumbersome. However, the compact design can fit in your pocket and this makes it easier to transport.
  • A handy lanyard helps you to keep the camera safe.
  • Transfer the images with the card reader.
  • Store your pictures with the 32 GB micro SD memory card.
  • Charge the camera with the USB-C cable.
  • Stickers are provided to brighten up the case.
  • Learn the fundamentals with the user manual.

Technical aspects.

This straightforward camera is perfect for technophobes or youngsters. Its tactile approach can be mastered without the use of the user manual. Additionally, the excellent UI and clear display screen help you to explore your files or play the built-in games. Games are all well and good, but you get a digital camera to capture videos and pictures. The CLICKid CAM10 has an 8x digital zoom and a reasonable video recording feature. Though it won’t blow you away and the video image is a little grainy, it is ideal for children. The ability to press and shoot without concern was perfect. My 6-year-old got into the swing of things in minutes as she raced around the house capturing everything she saw.

Whenever you buy electrical goods, you worry about a poor battery life. No one wants to keep charging their devices or to run out of power when they are out and about. Luckily, the built-in battery has a reasonable capacity and it charges pretty quickly. Accordingly, even if you are running low on juice, it doesn’t take long to get back into the game. Furthermore, the use of a USB-C port was convenient. As such, I could charge it from my Cuktech power bank whenever we left the house.

The UI is straightforward to tackle. Additionally, the buttons are tactile and chunky and it doesn’t take a lot to master this product. I could change the settings or select different shooting modes with ease. Moreover, playing the basic games was fun and I suspect my youngest will play each game to death. Though I’m not a massive fan of gaming on a camera, it is a nice touch and one way of reducing entertainment items when we are travelling.

Build quality.

The CLICKid CAM10 is exceptionally well-built! Products aimed at children have to be tough, tactile, and easy to handle. Thankfully, this ticks every box. Additionally, a handy lanyard is provided to keep the camera safe. This surprisingly small device fits in the palm of your hand. What’s more, its sleek black finish has a professional edge that is great to look at. Each of the large buttons has a nice grippy feel and the camera is comfortable to hold.

A display screen is provided to view your pictures. Alternatively, you can adjust the settings or play fun, but basic games. The screen has a reassuring toughness that will take some rough and tumble. Furthermore, the grippy buttons will survive some heavy jabbing and the impatience of a young user. Luckily, the ports are well-positioned and the memory card slot is strong and easy to handle. Finally, the in-built battery was a great choice. Other child-friendly cameras demand 6 AA batteries at a time. This is insane as they run out quickly and the cost and waste factors prevent you from letting your children go wild.

Is the CLICKid CAM10 worth it?

This fun and compact camera is perfect if you have youngsters in your house. Moreover, it will make the ideal Christmas gift as it costs less than £30. Thanks to its robust build quality, 8x digital zoom, and reasonable video recording facilities, this is a great product for budding photographers. On top of this, the games are a nice bonus and the battery life is decent. Accordingly, if you wish to treat your child to an inexpensive camera this year, I recommend buying it here!

Review: Plastomorphosis

Plastomorphosis is wonderfully retro and this took me by surprise. You won’t be far from the mark if you think of the original Silent Hill and Resident Evil. This rudimentary and dated gameplay may not be for everyone, but if you enjoy old-school gaming or are in your late 30s, this fresh nostalgic nature brings a smile to your face.

This adventure horror experience was developed by VidyGames and published by Samustai. Moreover, it is a single-player title with an apocalyptic and futuristic edge. This strange blend of ideas took some getting used to. However, once you are up to speed, you lose yourself in the sinister and creepy lore-riddled world.

Plastomorphosis has a classic plot.

You play the role of an unnamed protagonist. This faceless individual is searching for a way to improve their life. This is easier said than done as the government appears to control every aspect of your existence. Additionally, a dark energy known as Re.Surs has taken over the world. Accordingly, when you are offered a fresh start, you jump at the opportunity.

As you arrive in Modern City, you notice that things are off. The station is deserted and creepy mannequins are dotted everywhere. Alongside this, there are some smatterings of lore and the offer of help from a stranger. Each of these elements evolves as the gameplay continues. New layers of information come to light and you must complete puzzles and problems as you evade each monstrous creature you face.

A sense of deja vu.

The dated mechanics and old-school approach highlight a golden era for console gaming. However, the janky controls and fixed-screen cameras were problematic. Exploring forms the backbone of this adventure title and it was problematic when you couldn’t see where you were going. If you then add in a lack of direction, things become frustrating very quickly.

However, the lack of hand-holding and the nice array of weapons and limited ammo were a delight to experience. The sense of despair and doom as you await your next jump scare was palatable. Consequently, the developer has done a great job of enhancing the horror aspects. I genuinely jumped many times while rooting around the dank corners. Moreover, those bloody mannequins will make you scream as they seem to appear out of nowhere.

Puzzles and no walkthroughs.

Plastomorphosis is a walkthrough maker’s nightmare. Unfortunately, no solution is ever the same and this keeps things interesting. This ever-changing landscape ensures that exploration elements rarely get old. What’s more, this enhances replay value as you have to work for every solution.

What was frustrating, however, was the constant clipping of the scenery. The hero gets stuck on the furniture and hits the wall repeatedly. Though this wasn’t too problematic, it became tiresome. Unfortunately, the dated controls and fixed camera angles are counterintuitive for modern gamers. Subsequently, you have to change the way you think if you wish to succeed.

Plastomorphosis is gloriously grainy.

The deliberately retro design won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Furthermore, if you have a big monitor or TV this makes matters worse. Yet, I loved the pixelated imagery and the lack of detail. Moreover, the sombre colour palette enhances the creepy atmosphere and this was the perfect choice. Sadly, the animation is off by modern standards and this will make you laugh and scream. This issue compounds the exploration problems and makes the game harder to play.

The audio is where Plastomorphosis excels. The sinister soundtrack and horrific sound effects make your skin crawl. Furthermore, I loved the hollow but effective sounds of your weapons. Though the basic sounds won’t blow you away, the developers have captured that old-school vibe perfectly.

Rough controls.

I’ve mentioned it multiple times, but the controls are not good! The dated approach is authentic, but when you combine it with the fixed cameras and a modern mindset, it is just too janky. This causes plenty of problems that could have been avoided. Had the developer utilised modern control systems, this issue would have been avoided.

Though I enjoyed the creepy gameplay and dated aesthetic, I’m not sure I’ll return to play this. Plastomorphosis was just too frustrating to enjoy for extended periods. However, if you fall for its charms, the ever-changing solutions keep you busy. As such, there is longevity and replay value for horror fans.

Plastomorphosis is an interesting indie title.

Plastomorphosis has its faults, but it does exactly what it sets out to do. The old-school vibe is incredible and I love the dated gameplay. Furthermore, the audio was great and the suspense and jump scares are of a bygone era. Sadly, I can’t ignore the exploration issues and the problems with the controls. Yet, despite these shortcomings, I enjoyed it and recommend buying it here! Can you find a new place to live? Uncover mountains of lore, evade the dark energy monsters, and survive.

Review: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed brings the beloved 2010 classic, Disney Epic Mickey, back to life for a new generation of gamers on the Nintendo Switch. This revamped version of the game retains much of the original charm while making several updates to improve the overall experience. For those unfamiliar with the original, Epic Mickey was a platformer that placed players in the shoes of Mickey Mouse, who must navigate a forgotten world of Disney characters and locations using a magical paintbrush. The game was notable for its dark yet whimsical atmosphere, offering a unique take on the Disney universe.

A Reimagined World of Paint and Thinner

At the heart of Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed lie the core gameplay mechanics that made the original game stand out: using paint and thinner. As Mickey, players can wield a magical paintbrush to restore or erase parts of the game’s environment. The paint brings objects and characters back to life, while thinner allows players to remove obstacles or enemies. This duality creates a sense of moral choice, as players can decide how to approach various situations.

In Rebrushed, the gameplay remains largely faithful to the original but with some improvements. One of the most noticeable updates is the refinement of the camera system, which was a major complaint in the 2010 release. In the original Epic Mickey, the camera was notoriously difficult to manage, often leading to frustrating moments during platforming segments. The camera in Rebrushed is significantly smoother and more responsive, making exploration and combat much less of a chore. There are still moments when it can feel a little clunky, particularly in tight spaces or during more complex platforming challenges.

The game’s structure is also unchanged, with players traversing through a series of interconnected levels set in a twisted version of Disney’s past. These levels are filled with collectables, side quests, and secrets to discover. There is a strong emphasis on exploration, and the game rewards players for revisiting areas with new abilities. However, the mission design in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed does feel a bit dated. Many of the quests revolve around simple fetch tasks or basic platforming challenges, which may not hold the attention of modern gamers for long.

Player’s Choices in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Players’ choices with paint and thinner still play a crucial role in the game’s progression. These choices affect how certain puzzles are solved, and also impact the story and how characters react to Mickey. While this morality system was innovative in 2010, it feels somewhat underdeveloped by today’s standards. The consequences of your actions are still there, but they rarely feel significant enough to affect the overall outcome of the game. Mickey also has some new moves, such as dash, sprinting, and ground pound, which add to the overhaul the game has gone through.

A World Rebrushed but Still Darkly Charming

One of the standout elements of the original Disney Epic Mickey was its dark, almost haunting take on the Disney universe. This theme is preserved in Rebrushed, and the upgraded visuals make the world even more immersive. While the core aesthetic remains faithful to the original, Rebrushed offers a higher level of detail, improved textures, and smoother animations that benefit from the Nintendo Switch’s hardware. The Switch’s handheld mode is particularly impressive, with the game’s vibrant colours and whimsical designs looking crisp on the smaller screen.

Despite these improvements, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is not a complete overhaul in terms of visuals. Every asset has been remade from the ground up with major enhancements in visual fidelity and texture. In addition, all the cutscenes have been re-rendered in stunning 4k.

The audio design, on the other hand, shines in Rebrushed. The atmospheric soundtrack perfectly complements the game’s eerie, forgotten world. The use of classic Disney tunes, twisted into melancholic versions of themselves, creates a hauntingly beautiful backdrop for Mickey’s journey. Voice acting is minimal, but the sound effects, especially those related to the paint and thinner mechanics, are satisfying and immersive. The audio improvements in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed help elevate the overall experience, drawing players deeper into the game’s unique setting.

Controls and Difficulty in Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

The control scheme is one of the most significant improvements in Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. The developers built the original game, released on the Wii, around the motion controls of the Wii Remote, which could sometimes feel imprecise and awkward. Epic Mickey: Rebrushed ditches the reliance on motion controls, instead opting for a more traditional control setup using the Joy-Cons or the Pro Controller. This change is welcome, making the game feel more accessible and less gimmicky than its predecessor.

The Switch’s motion controls are still an option in Rebrushed, but they are far more refined and less intrusive than in the original. Players can use the motion controls to aim Mickey’s paintbrush, but it’s entirely optional and feels like a nice, responsive addition rather than a necessity. Switching between traditional and motion controls gives players more flexibility in how they want to play.

Regarding difficulty, Rebrushed remains a fairly accessible game for players of all ages. The platforming and combat are not overly challenging, making it an excellent option for younger players or those who prefer a more laid-back gaming experience. However, more experienced gamers may find the lack of difficulty a bit underwhelming. The puzzles are relatively simple, and combat against enemies rarely requires much strategy. That said, the game does offer some optional challenges and secrets for those looking to test their skills a bit more.

One area where Rebrushed falls short is in its pacing. While the early levels are engaging, the game can start to feel repetitive as players progress. While unique, the paint and thinner mechanics do not evolve much throughout the game, leading to a sense of stagnation in later levels. This lack of variety and relatively easy difficulty may cause some players to lose interest before reaching the game’s conclusion.

Final Thoughts on Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed for Nintendo Switch is a welcome return to a beloved Disney adventure. The game successfully captures the magic and charm of the original while making important improvements in areas like camera control and visual fidelity. However, it’s clear that Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is not a full-scale remake, and some of the game’s dated mechanics and level designs hold it back from being a truly modern experience.

This re-release will likely be a nostalgic treat for fans of the original Epic Mickey, offering a chance to revisit a unique and imaginative take on the Disney universe. For newcomers, Rebrushed provides an enjoyable, if somewhat outdated, platforming adventure that is accessible to all ages. While it may not stand up to the best modern platformers, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is still a charming and enjoyable experience, especially for those who appreciate the history and lore of Disney’s forgotten characters.

How to Safely Transport Your Gaming Equipment When Moving Home

0

Moving to a new home can be a stressful process, especially when it comes to ensuring your valuable and delicate gaming equipment arrives in perfect condition. Whether you have an extensive gaming setup or a few key pieces, following these steps will help protect your gear during the move. From packing to loading and transporting, here’s how to safely transport your gaming equipment when moving home.

1. Prepare and Organize Your Equipment

Before you start packing, take the time to organize and prepare your gaming setup. This includes:

  • Backing up your data: Make sure to back up any important files, game saves, and data on external hard drives or cloud storage. In case something unexpected happens during the move, you won’t lose any valuable information.
  • Taking photos of your setup: If your gaming setup includes multiple consoles, monitors, or custom PC builds with numerous cables, take pictures of how everything is connected. This will make reassembling your setup at your new home much easier.
  • Cleaning your equipment: Dust and clean all your gaming gear before packing to ensure that no dirt gets trapped during the move, which could cause damage to sensitive components.

2. Gather the Right Packing Materials

Investing in the right packing materials is crucial for protecting your equipment. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Original boxes: If you still have the original boxes for your consoles, gaming PC, monitors, or peripherals, use them. They’re specifically designed to fit your devices securely and offer the best protection.
  • Sturdy boxes: If you don’t have the original packaging, use sturdy, well-constructed boxes to pack your items. Make sure the boxes are the right size for your equipment and avoid overloading them.
  • Bubble wrap and packing paper: Use bubble wrap or foam to cushion fragile items like monitors and PCs. Packing paper is great for filling empty spaces in the box and preventing items from shifting during transit.
  • Packing tape and labels: Securely tape all boxes and label them clearly, including notes such as “Fragile” and “This Side Up” to ensure movers handle your items carefully.

3. Pack Each Item Securely

Different types of gaming equipment require different packing methods to ensure their safety.

  • Monitors: Pack monitors with extra care. Wrap them in bubble wrap or a soft cloth to protect the screen, and place them in a padded box. Ensure that nothing heavy is placed on top of the monitor to avoid damaging the screen.
  • PCs and consoles: For gaming PCs, remove any external components, such as graphic cards or hard drives, and pack them separately if possible. Place the PC or console in a padded box with ample cushioning to absorb shocks during the move. Be sure to fill any gaps in the box to prevent movement.
  • Peripherals: Pack smaller items like controllers, keyboards, mice, and headsets in a separate box. Wrap each item individually to avoid scratching or damaging the surfaces. Use bubble wrap or packing paper to keep everything secure.
  • Cables: To avoid tangled messes, wrap each cable neatly and use twist ties or rubber bands to secure them. Consider placing them in labeled plastic bags so you can easily find and reconnect them later.

4. Transporting the Equipment

How you transport your gaming gear is just as important as how you pack it.

  • Use the right vehicle: If you’re driving to your new home, make sure the boxes are secured in your vehicle. Place heavier items, like your gaming PC, on the floor to prevent tipping, and avoid stacking fragile items like monitors. Make sure nothing is loose or likely to slide during the trip.
  • Consider professional movers: If you’re moving a large setup or have high-end, expensive equipment, it might be worth hiring professional movers experienced in handling electronics. They’ll have the right tools and expertise to ensure your gear is transported safely when moving apartment blocks.
  • Flying with equipment: If you’re moving long-distance by air, consider packing smaller items like laptops or gaming peripherals in your carry-on luggage. For larger or more fragile items, use hard-shell luggage and check airline policies regarding electronics in checked bags.

5. Unpack and Reassemble with Care

Once you arrive at your new home, unpack your gaming equipment carefully and systematically:

  • Check for damage: Before setting everything up, inspect each item for any damage that may have occurred during the move. If you notice anything out of place, test the equipment before plugging it in fully.
  • Reassemble your setup: Use the photos you took of your original setup to guide you in reconnecting cables and arranging your equipment. Take your time to ensure everything is in the right place.
  • Test your equipment: Before settling in for a gaming session, test each piece of equipment to ensure it works correctly. This will give you peace of mind that your setup is functioning properly after the move.

Conclusion

Moving home with gaming equipment requires extra care and attention to avoid damaging your valuable gear. By organizing your items, using proper packing materials, and ensuring safe transportation, you can ensure that your gaming setup arrives intact and ready for use in your new home. Whether you’re handling the move yourself or hiring professionals, following these steps will help make the transition smooth and stress-free.
