MilitAnt Launches on PS4 and PC today
MilitAnt created by Xibalba Studios for the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam), MilitAnt is a fast twitch side-scrolling blastacular action platformer that launched worldwide today on Steam. Its PlayStation 4 version hits the US today while the European invasion is set for 14th July. The PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita launches will be announced at a later date and will support Cross-Buy and Cross-Save with PS4.
“We are proud to launch MilitAnt on PS4 and PC. MilitAnt is the type of shooter armed with nostalgia and advancing difficulty. It should feel both familiar and completely exotic at the same time. Most importantly, MilitAnt brings the fun back into side-scrolling shooters, which has been sorely missed recently,” said Ricardo Villarreal, CEO, Xibalba Studios.
Spawned from an incubation program, MilitAnt has earned numerous awards, such as the “Best Shooter” award from the Intel Level Up Game Demo Contest. The game was also selected as a nominee for Game Connection America’s “Best Project” award. Xibalba won ESA’s (Entertainment Software Association) Professional Developer category at Video Juegos MX for MilitAnt.
In MilitAnt, you play as an Ant. Deep underground, the Ants guard Crystalite which is the most precious resource. It is the chief fuel behind most modern Insect technology, from day-to-day tools to advanced weaponry. Fair trade among the many kingdoms has brought about long years of peace and prosperity, but there grows tension over the resource with some factions wanting to control it. The more envious factions have been gaining influence. War looms on the horizon.
MilitAnt opens with a sudden invasion. Termites have overrun the Ants’ colony! All seems lost. And yet, one brave Ant warrior (you) rises to the challenge. From the familiar depths of the colony’s mines, you must venture into the strange world above. When not soaring through the sky or visiting the Beetles’ mysterious realm, you’ll find yourself escaping from the jungle or being stalked in a bleak wasteland: each stage of the journey is beautiful yet dangerous, exotic and unique. Massive bosses stand in your way, each with an amazing battle theme composed by award-winner Gerard K. Marino.
In MilitAnt, players can gather quite an arsenal, from flamethrowers and sentry guns to electric beam rifles and more! And as an Ant, the warrior can carry weapons in all four hands. Preparation is key: only by unlocking and equipping the best combinations in each situation can he win victory and save the colony.

Review: Carmageddon Max Damage
A wise man once said “Things Change” and it is something that compliments video games extremely well. Things do change, what was once seen as popular and fashionable in gaming over the years can become something you look back at and roll your eyes at how you ever considered it to be worth playing. Some games can be a testament to the era in which they were created much as some look back at the 80s and question the music, fashion and technology with bewildering concern. Gaming has had some real questionable releases over the past decades but it has also has some amazing ones which can be brought back as remasters and still stand up today as a gaming experience as they once did years ago. Sadly, coming up is one example that some things should be left in the past and that nearly 20 years since its original release, Carmageddon Max Damage should have been put in the garage and left alone to rust.
The first Carmageddon was released back in 1997, at the end of the 90s and was inspired by the 1975 film Death Race 2000. It was an ultra violent gore fest with one real aim, to kill all pedestrians using your car whilst battling other drivers doing the same. It was pretty much the car version of DOOM but it celebrated the gore and murder in a cartoonish almost B movie style, and it was very much of the time and I remember playing it on my trusty Amiga. But as I opened with, things do change, and the very concept of what made Carmageddon stand out is not really something that in 2016 that is a good fit. When I heard that the 2015 PC title Carmageddon: Reincarnation, originally a Kick-starter campaign, was being brought to Xbox One and Playstation 4 as Carmageddon Max Damage I really had my doubts about it, and now having played it, it is very obvious this was a disastrous decision.
Put simply, Carmageddon Max Damage is a shockingly terrible addition to a series that truly has no place outside of discussions of what used to be popular in gaming. Max Damage is horrible, across the board it simply fails to do anything well and is frustratingly bad at everything it tries to do. It feels like a cheap arcade title and the quality is far less than the asking price suggests, lacking anything that would justify the retail price it has of £29.99 both as a full retail disc release and digitally on PS4 and Xbox One stores.

To start with, Carmageddon Max Damage is ugly, and I am talking barely last gen level of visuals with absolutely nothing being done since its PC release last year to even attempt to polish it up in anyway for a current gen console release. At first I thought the developers may have been trying to keep it in line with how the original Carmageddon games looked and in so paying some degree of nostalgia nod to them but honestly, it is just a god awful looking game. Everything from the pedestrians to the environments you “race” on are so basic that you feel as the Xbox One Controller in your hand may as well be connected to a year one Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3, whilst streaming this, my viewers thought I was playing on a Playstation 2 for crying out loud. The Cars all look rather generic and the first time you encounter a 2D drawn barrel in a 3D environment you just roll your eyes, something that happens so much in this game that you may come away doing the best impression of WWE’s The Undertaker ever!
Then there is how the cars themselves handle and after playing Max Damage, I forgive Watchdogs for its driving mechanics. Each car feels heavy and a real sluggish kind of heavy that using an analogue controller is pointless; I had more control using an Amiga keyboard back in the day. That makes driving at speed really laborious as a simple knock can send you spinning into hazards or buildings. You can collect upgrade tokens through the course to upgrade Car Parts but honestly I never felt they improved handling in anyway. The only visual aspect I did like was in how you can repair your car damage and the animation of parts from your car flying back to you to reform on the car is fun. The environments you race on are large areas designed to be used in all the race types and modes and have different areas to explore should you feel the need to try either the Free Roam mode or just go off for a scenic route drive during a race.
Carmageddon would not be Carmageddon if the streets were not full of pedestrians to kill and these all come in different visual styles but I will address this more a bit later in this review. It has the issue that the longer a race goes on for, you will actually run out of pedestrians to take out after initially the game will throw them in groups exactly where you are racing but I found that after a few laps or returning to the same areas of the map to chase checkpoints, all you find are corpses from earlier and in a game that markets itself on the brutality to pedestrians, having none to actually take out just ends up leaving the racing gameplay left and that really saps the enjoyment right out of you.
Now another way to win each mode is to destroy the other racers by wrecking their cars. In career certain cars will be highlighted as targets for you and should you wreck them it will unlock that car and driver for the player to use. As ugly as this game is, the AI of the other racers is equally a shambles as at times you will notice that some of the other races get lost and even stuck in the map, which immediately takes them out of the game. The racers that can keep up often have such a boring attacking manner that the race turns into dodgems ride rather than a demolition derby. They will hit you but just focus on trying to push you around, even failing to use any of the power up weapons available. I found myself getting stuck in a sumo wrestling match with them trying to push my car around which gets really boring, really fast. You as the player have to be the aggressor all the time and that is dull as the racing is a travesty.

Ultimately I found that the main reason Carmageddon Max Damage fails so hard, in addition to it just being an awfully put together game, is that it simply doesn’t belong in 2016. It feels dated and out of place in today’s era of gaming and each time one of the on screen slogans pops up after doing something in game such as calling you a “cunning stunt” after flipping your car is more cringe worthy than funny. This now brings me back to the pedestrians themselves which for me had me questioning why this game was even released on console if for no other reason than to make some money from the name on the box. I have no desire for entertainment and certainly not for comedic purposes, to run over animals, overweight people or disabled people in wheelchairs for my gaming pleasure. It is really all just very needless and tactless and far from being the non politically correct nature that the original Carmageddon games used in a time that it was more acceptable or seen as dark humour, today it is just offensive on every level. I found it far more distasteful to see the various types of pedestrians used in the game and even made the effort in game to swerve to actively avoid hitting animals and those in wheelchairs during races and finding myself doing that just made Carmageddon all the more difficult a game to endure and certainly not one I would want to carry on playing going forward.
Carmageddon Max Damage is ridiculously bad, and I mean really bad. I am stressing this point over and over because I want to spare others the misery of playing it. Right now it is so undeserving of its current price tag of £29.99; it lacks anything whatsoever to give that price tag validity. It is awful to play, terrible to watch someone play and right now is in the lead for worse game of the year for me. If for some reason you are tempted to pick this up, please wait for the inevitable price drop to bargain bin level before waiting some more for it to then go into a sale of bargain bin titles and just to be on the safe side, wait till you upset someone enough to buy you this as a birthday or Christmas present and know that the person giving you it hates you!
Carmageddon Max Damage should be left in the junkyard to be nothing more than scrap metal and left to rust in peace!

Hail, Caesar! – The Real Life Fixer
To mark the release of Hail, Caesar! on Digital HD on 27th June and on Blu-ray™ and DVD on 11th July, we take a look at the biggest “fixes” that the real life Mr. Mannix carried out in Hollywood’s Golden Age.

From the inimitable Coen Brothers comes Hail, Caesar! The story follows a day in the life of Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), a Hollywood Fixer for Capitol Pictures, who cleans up after and solves problems for the studio’s biggest stars. When Capitol’s leading man Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) suddenly disappears, it is up to Mannix to recover him in time to finish the picture. The stellar supporting cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Alden Ehrenreich.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=G2XwIgI3xKs
The real Eddie Mannix was the general manager and later a vice president of MGM studios during the period, and it was part of his job to keep the talent in line. Mannix had people all over Los Angeles on his payroll, from members of the police, to doctors and even coroners which meant he could spin a story whichever way he needed to. He worked very closely with MGM’s head of publicity, Howard Strickling, who influenced how the press reported on the studio’s films and stars. While Strickling distracted the media, it was Mannix’s job to make the scandalous stories disappear.
CLARK GABLE
Mannix kept megastar Clark Gable out of trouble so often he considered Eddie one of his closest friends. In 1933 Gable was believed to have run over and killed actress Tosca Roulien, and it is alleged that Mannix paid off MGM screenwriter John Huston to take the blame. Luckily, Huston was never charged due to lack of evidence. One year later, Gable supposedly sexually assaulted Loretta Young, his co-star in Call of the Wild, and she fell pregnant. To prevent a scandal – and echoing a plotline of Hail, Caesar! – Mannix helped Loretta to ‘adopt’ her own daughter publicly before her second birthday.
JOAN CRAWFORD
Joan Crawford was constantly surrounded by rumours and scandal; she lied about her date of birth to make herself appear older to join MGM Studios, her freckles and red hair were masked by makeup and she even changed her name from Lucille Fay LeSueur. Nothing was more scandalous, however, than the pornographic film Joan starred in during her pre-fame years. Mannix allegedly tracked down every last copy, and paid $100,000 of the studio’s money to buy the original negative.
GEORGE REEVES
George Reeves played the eponymous Superman in the 1950s TV series Adventures of Superman and was believed to have committed suicide in 1959 by shooting himself in the head. However, rumours persist that Mannix allegedly ordered a hit on Reeves when he found out his wife, Toni, was having an affair with the actor. This mystery surrounding Reeves’ death made it to the big screen in 2006’s Hollywoodland where Reeves was portrayed by Ben Affleck. The rumour was never confirmed – but it’s also never been dismissed.
PATRICIA DOUGLAS
Mannix did all he could to protect the top Hollywood studio at the time. In 1937, one of the studio’s young actresses called Patricia Douglas answered a casting call requesting that she show up at the studio lot on May 5th. On the lot Douglas and a number of other girls were given cowgirl outfits that showed plenty of leg and full camera-ready hair and makeup. They were promised $7.50 for a day’s work, but it wasn’t until 300 salesmen and executives arrived that the women realised they had been hired to provide a female element at a private party. The night sadly ended with Douglas allegedly being raped, and when she tried to take legal action Mannix went into damage-control mode. The studio supposedly paid for statements from the other guests saying Patricia was “uncontrollably drunk” and when the court date arrived, no lawyers turned up. A federal judge was finally forced to dismiss the case.
PAUL BERN
In 1932 Director Paul Bern married the studio’s biggest star, Jean Harlow, despite already having a wife in New York. One night, neighbours heard a man and woman arguing in the Hollywood Hills. There was a sound of breaking glass and then a gunshot. Bern lay dead in his bathroom with a bullet through his head. Mannix arrived and knew instantly what had happened; Bern’s first wife was in town and when they argued, she ended up killing him. The scandal would have ruined Jean Harlow and the studio, so with the help of the police (who were on Mannix’s payroll) they staged the murder as a suicide and it was never questioned.
“Mannix was a tough guy from New Jersey, if he hadn’t fallen into the movie business he would have ended up as a knee-breaker for somebody.” – E.J. Fleming, author of The Fixers: Eddie Mannix, Howard Strickling And The MGM Publicity Machine
Hail Caesar! is out on Digital HD on 27th June and Blu-ray and DVD from 11th July, courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK).
First look at the poster for Beauty and the Beast from Disney
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock and two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
Directed by Oscar winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.
Beauty and the Beast will be released in the UK and Ireland on 17th March 2017.
Are you ready for Pokémon GO for iOS and Android
The Pokémon Company International and Niantic, Inc. are excited to announce the launch of the long-awaited mobile game Pokémon GO, which is now available for download at no cost on the App Store and Google Play.
Pokémon GO is currently available in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and will be coming soon to Canada, Europe and South America.
In Pokémon GO, players around the globe will explore their surroundings to find and catch wild Pokémon hiding in their midst. Some wild Pokémon appear in their native environments—for example, Water-type Pokémon may appear near lakes and oceans. Once players have encountered a Pokémon, they can catch it by using their smartphone’s touch screen to throw a Poké Ball. Poké Balls and other special items can be found at PokéStops located at interesting places, such as public art installations, historical markers and monuments.
Pokémon GO’s features include:
· Catch Pokémon: Pokémon GO invites players to step outside, walk around and catch wild Pokémon. As players increase in level, they’ll be able to catch more-powerful Pokémon and gain access to more-powerful items. While working to complete the Pokédex, players will be able to evolve Pokémon by catching multiples of the same species and can even find Pokémon Eggs which hatch after a player walks a specific distance. Players are encouraged to keep exploring and encountering the many different Pokémon needed to complete the Pokédex!

· Join a Team and Battle: Players can join one of three teams, Mystic, Instinct or Valor and assign Pokémon they have caught to an open Pokémon Gym location or to a Gym claimed by a fellow team member. Teams must battle against the defending Pokémon in their rival teams’ Gyms to lower a Gym’s Prestige and claim the Gym for their own team. Cooperation amongst team members is important in securing as many Gyms as possible.
· Share the Fun: Activate the camera feature to take photos of Pokémon encountered in the world. With their real-life surroundings providing a backdrop for these photos, players will be able to share these memorable moments with their friends.
· Customise the Trainer Avatar: Players can choose from a range of apparel and accessories to match their in-game avatar with their personal style. The customised avatar will appear on the map as players move around, as well as on their profile page. Trainer’s avatars will also appear in Gyms under their team’s control.
· Soundtrack by Junichi Masuda: Pokémon GO will feature all-new music composed by GAME FREAK’s Junichi Masuda. Mr. Masuda has worked on Pokémon video games since the very first games and has composed many of the classic and memorable songs that have inspired fans for decades.
In-app purchases will be available for players who would like to enhance their Pokémon GO experience. Players can purchase PokéCoins, the in-game currency of Pokémon GO, which can then be exchanged for power-ups and extra items.
The Pokémon GO Plus device is a portable accessory that will enable Pokémon GO players to enjoy the game even while they’re not looking at their smartphones. This optional device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and notifies the player about events in the game using an LED and vibration. In addition, players can catch Pokémon or perform other simple actions by pressing the button on the device.
