Review: Fire Emblem Warriors

Nintendo and Koei Tecmo make for strange bedfellows and yet a game like Hyrule Warriors not only became a reality, but it was well enough received for Nintendo to let Koei Tecmo play around with another of its key franchises. Albeit it makes use of the same concept, Fire Emblem Warriors has the potential to benefit from the strategic aspect of the franchise.

Final Thoughts

If you play a lot of Xbox games then you probably have gone through a lot of batteries or have had to remember to charge your controllers whenever you have finished playing with them. The Twin Docking Station from Venom helps deal with this problem by not only providing a rechargeable battery for your controller, well two controllers, but also a docking station for them to sit on.

Whenever the controller is sitting in the docking station the batteries will recharge. It is important to note that the controllers can only be charged from the docking station.

Venom claim that you can get around 18 hours from a full charge, however this will depend a lot on what game you are playing and whether or not there is a lot of feedback coming from the controller. Even when playing a game with a lot of controller feedback we still managed to get over 8 hours from a single charge, which is a good amount! Although when they batteries start to go you don’t have a lot of time before they are totally flat.

They controllers charge up fairly quickly and you can easily see if the charging has completed by the colour of the front LED on the docking station.

The docking station itself also looks a little “plasticy” but to be honest it does it’s job so is it really that important how it looks? To some people, maybe!

All in all, the Twin Docking Station for Xbox One is a good addition to any Xbox gamers kit, enabling them to have someone to sit their controllers, but to also have them charge at the same time.

Available now priced around £14.99.

Review: Cyrus One with TIDAL

The Cyrus One is a stereo amplifier that now comes with 3 months free access to music streaming service TIDAL – here is our review.

This is how Cyrus describe the One:

“Breath-taking audio from a single box integrated amplifier. Compact, yet boasting an incredible audio specification. Send Bluetooth from your phone, directly connect a record player, or plug in Google’s Chromecast audio for CD quality streamed music. It also has sound for pound, one of the best headphone amplifiers money can buy. ONE is the standard by which others are measured.”

Specifications

What’s in the Box?

The box contains the Cyrus One, a small remote control, power cables, paperwork and a manual on a CD.

Using TIDAL with the Cyrus One

TIDAL delivers seamless listening across mobile, tablet, desktop and network players. Enjoy lossless music streaming on Apple devices from iPhone, iPad and iPod to Mac, as well as on PC and Android systems. Plus integration in a wide range of high fidelity network players – the Cyrus One being one of them.

Once you have created your TIDAL account you need to download and install the software on either your computer or your phone / tablet. Just choose your device, download the software and away you go.

Once that’s done you can start searching for music you want to listen to.

And it’s very easy to add music to your playlists so that you can listen to them via any device.

You can then start to play your selected music directly to the Cyrus One (ensuring you have Bluetooth selected on the One).

TIDAL is available in more than 52 countries, with more than a 51 million song catalog and 192,000 high quality videos – so there’s bound to be something you want to listen to.

Final Thoughts

The Cyrus One comes very well packaged – don’t forget to take note of the 3 month subscription code for TIDAL that will be on the box.

Once you have taken the Cyrus One out of the box and connected it all up you should update the firmware. This was a simple process and just involves downloading the firmware update file to your PC or Mac, connecting that to the One via a USB cable and then running the update file – simple!

Connected up a set of speakers was simple – and if you are not sure which connectors to connect the speaker cables to, there are diagrams in the box to help you do it.

It is also easy to connect up various other devices, such as a record player and also a Google Chromecast device.

The front of the One has a power switch and two large dials. The left hand dial enables you to select which audio input you want to use – the first one is aptX Bluetooth. The right hand dial is the volume. When you first power on the One all the lights one on sequentially.

There is also a remote control but to be honest it’s very small and doesn’t have many features, and you are more likely to use the Cyrus One app for your smartphone than the remote.

Given the cost of the One itself the remote is a little disappointing and feels a little cheap.

Sound wise though the One is great – really great in fact. The sound really comes through well from any of the sources hooked up to it, with 100 watts per channel.

Which brings us nicely onto TIDAL. TIDAL is a music streaming service that delivers lossless audio and is available via subscription.

TIDAL’s HiFi tier is the leading standard in lossless audio streaming. Simply selecting the Chromecast option which automatically appears in the TIDAL App, music lovers can enjoy millions of tracks in hi-fi quality. In partnership with MQA (Master Quality Authenticated), TIDAL offers ‘Master’ quality audio in over 105,000 tracks from Warner Music Group, TIDAL artist owners and key independent labels. The platform is continuing to add more master-quality content, allowing fans to hear music the way the artist intended. Superior to regular or even aptX Bluetooth, streaming via Chromecast Audio affords music streaming without compromise, with zero compression delivering lossless audio that reveals staggering detail and clarity. Unlike the majority of consumer streaming devices, Chromecast Audio features a high-specification DAC (Digital Analogue Converter), widely revered for its ability to deliver incredible levels of audio detail.

You can streaming TIDAL from your phone, your tablet or your computer, and setting up and using TIDAL is very easy. Just look for whatever music you want, and hit play, and just sit back and enjoy the lossless quality coming through your speakers. And you really can tell the difference listening to it too!

The Cyrus One has been available for a while now, but the inclusion of Google Chromecast, along with a three month trial of TIDAL really makes the package worth while and worth taking a look at if you had skipped it before.

The Cyrus One with TIDAL is available now priced around £699 and if you are in the market for a great quality amp along with a lossless streaming service, that you should definitely take a look, and a listen, to this one!

The box contains the headset, a removable mic and a manual.

Final Thoughts

The first thing you notice when you open the box is the camouflage look of the headset. Well, let’s be honest if you didn’t want a set with camouflage on them then you probably wont be getting these.

The headset is very lightweight so you can wear it for extended periods of time without it becoming too uncomfortable.

The headset works well with Xbox and PlayStation and also with mobile devices, although I’m not sure you are likely to wear these outside the house! You may need to buy a headset audio adapter for your Xbox One controller, depending on which one you have, so take a look before you buy, just to make sure.

The mic is easily added and removed from the headset, and the quality is excellent. There is also a mute button and volume controls easily accessible.

Sound is provided via 50mm speakers and it is of excellent quality – you won’t be disappointed.

If you are a fan of shooting games, such as Battlefield or Call of Duty, and you want a great sounding headset to match, then take a look at the Recon Camo headset.

Hand of Fate 2 DLC Coming tomorrow 20th Dec

0

Hand of Fate 2, the RPG from Defiant Development, will deal with multiple additions of downloadable content. The first free piece, arriving on Steam, Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, will add the Dealer as a new companion character. Like all DLC, this will appear on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018.

The Dealer will join the adventuring party once the player successfully completes the final challenge. A master of the Game of Life and Death, he can influence any tabletop gambit, though at great personal cost. In combat, the Dealer employs an arsenal of ranged attacks to ensnare his opponents.

The Dealer will deliver new quips and insults, evoking responses that have made this supporting character the series’ most memorable personality. Anthony Skordi, best known in the world of games for bringing to life characters such as Mass Effect 3’s Leviathan and Admiral Garrick Versio from Star Wars: Battlefront II, once again lends his vocal talents to voice the Dealer.

Released Nov. 7 across PlayStation 4 and Steam, prior to its arrival on Xbox One earlier this month, Hand of Fate 2 has sold more than 100,000 copies across all platforms. The first entry in the franchise had more than 2.5 million downloads. Hand of Fate: Ordeals, a tabletop adaptation of the series and the most-funded Australian tabletop game in Kickstarter history, will release in Q2 2018.

“Hand of Fate 2 had an amazing launch and we look forward to continuing to support the community by giving our passionate fans new experiences to enjoy,” said Morgan Jaffit, Director, Defiant Development. “Love or hate the Dealer, players will be thrilled to have more of him than ever before, transforming our most memorable character into a companion.”

Hand of Fate 2, will be 10 percent off its normal asking price of $29.99 USD / €24.99 / $29.99 AUD on Steam, beginning 21st Dec..

Review: Honor 7X is this best value 18:9 you can buy right now?

The Honor 7X ticks a special box with a lovely display, the front is dominated by a 5.93-inch screen with a Full HD+ 2160 X 1920 resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio looks impressive. thin borders on the sides but comparatively thicker ones at the top and bottom.

The metal earpiece sits above the screen, with an 8-megapixel front camera alongside. The fingerprint sensor on the 7X is at the back, I found it easy to reach the fingerprinter sensor to unlock the phone in our experience.

Honor 7X uses a metal unibody for this smartphone which gives it that premium look and feels.

The new Honor 7X was launched globally at an event in London at a price of £269.99 for the 64 GB variant with 4GB ram (Blue/Black).

Quick look at the specs

• The Honor 7X is equipped with an 18:9 ratio, 5.93 inch FHD+ display with 2160 X 1080 resolution, providing ultra-high definition and remarkable display quality. With its 2.5D curved glass design, metallic chassis and perfectly rounded edges, users can experience exceptional futuristic design.
• The Honor 7X has an 18:9 screen to allow gamers to see more and obtain advantage when in the midst of the action. The 18:9 screen ratio is close to the 21:9 ratio used in cinemas, meaning that the screen delivers an outstandingly cinema-like immersive experience to users.
• The Honor 7X doubles the productivity and fun with its One-key Screen Split function. From email and WhatsApp to Netflix and YouTube, multi-tasking has never been faster and easier.
Professional Photography
• The dual-lens 16MP + 2MP rear camera captures people and scenes in the highest definition. With Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and the latest algorithms, the Honor 7X enables focusing in 0.18 seconds. The large aperture (F/0.95 – F/16) gives images a DSLR-level depth of field effect.
Performance
• The Honor 7X is powered by an octa-core Kirin 659 processor at 4x 2.36GHz and 4x 1.7 GHz and is equipped with 4GB RAM and EMUI 5.1. This ensures superb performance when multitasking and gaming, and meets the needs of the most demanding apps.
• A microSD card of up to 256 GB can be used to increase data storage so that hundreds of episodes of the favourite series can be downloaded and stored to watch offline. Smart optimization and file management features prevent the degradation of Android performance over time.
Long Lasting Battery life
• Even with the larger FullView Display, a single charge of the 3,340 mAh battery enables Honor 7X to be on the go for more than one full day.

Display & Design:

There are some special new features, including a gesture-controlled shutter release for the selfie camera, daytime and nighttime screen modes, and a single button split-screen mode, to make the most out of the large screen.

The metal body curves on the sides and along the edges, giving this phone a good in-hand feel. The power and volume buttons are positioned on the right, the loudspeaker, 3.5mm headphones socket, primary microphone, and Micro-USB port are all on the bottom.

The dual camera setup at the back is accompanied by a single-LED flash. Honor has gone with two distinct rings instead of a single unit like we’ve seen on most phones recently. The camera arrangement protrudes a little. The device is available in two colours: Black, Blue.

On the back, there’s a fingerprint scanner, while the bottom houses the charging port, headphone jack and speaker.

Performance:

Honor 7X is powered by Kirin 659 CPU and 4GB of RAM with 128 GB internal storage which is sufficient for the users. The powerful RAM and processor make the device almost free of lags and gives a smooth performance while playing high-end games like Injustice or while switching between apps in a jiffy. There are a few pre-loaded games – none of which seem optimised for the wide display, oddly – and they all play fairly well.

The software is the EMUI-skinned flavour of Android Nougat (shipped with 7.0 but Android 8.0 Oreo coming the first quarter of 2018). ) that you’ll find on Huawei handsets. There are plenty of customisation options and a good battery-saver mode.

Camera:

Next big thing in this phone is the dual rear cameras. Sporting a dual rear camera (16 MP and 2 MP), which can capture Portrait Mode-like bokeh shots with in-focus foregrounds and blurred backgrounds, the photos came out pretty well in the daylight and outdoors.

The autofocus of the extra sensor is simply there for gathering data for the wide-aperture mode and thus makes a beautiful low light shot quite artificial.

My Cat fast asleep

The 8 MP selfie camera seems adequate – good enough for social media use and can also take decent bokeh shots.

Battery:

The 3340mAh battery keeps the Honor 7X running all day,  the battery is powerful and does not heat up the device even after long hours of usage. But the Honor 7X still using Micro USB rather than the now much more common USB-C now.

Verdict:

The Honor 7X phone is a worthy choice for great Android smartphone experience with almost all the latest features that you may desire. Priced at £269.99, the phone is a probably going to be the most favourite budget smartphone for anyone, just missing USB Type C and NFC (with was in last model the Honor 6X)
