Review: Mario vs Donkey Kong

Mario vs Donkey Kong is a delightful and captivating game that brings classic characters to life on the Nintendo Switch. With its captivating gameplay, charming graphics, and nostalgic appeal, it offers a fantastic experience for players of all ages.

The game follows the timeless rivalry between Mario and Donkey Kong, as they embark on a thrilling adventure through multiple levels filled with puzzles, obstacles, and enemies. The goal is clear: rescue Pauline and thwart Donkey Kong’s mischievous plans. The gameplay mechanics are simple yet engaging, allowing players to maneuver through each level with precision and skill.

One of the standout features of Mario vs Donkey Kong is its nostalgic visual style. The game beautifully combines modern graphics with the iconic design elements of its predecessors, creating a visually stunning experience. The vibrant colors, detailed environments, and expressive character animations breathe new life into the beloved classic, making it a visual treat for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

In addition to its visual appeal, the game’s sound design is equally impressive. From catchy tunes that pay homage to the original soundtrack to whimsical sound effects that add depth to the gameplay, every auditory aspect of Mario vs Donkey Kong contributes to its immersive and endearing atmosphere.

The level design in Mario vs Donkey Kong is nothing short of exceptional. Each level presents unique challenges and puzzles that require a blend of creativity, strategy, and quick reflexes to overcome. As players progress through the game, they’ll encounter increasingly intricate obstacles and clever level layouts that keep the gameplay fresh and exciting.

The multiplayer mode in Mario vs Donkey Kong offers an entertaining experience for friends and family. Whether teaming up to tackle challenging levels together or competing in head-to-head showdowns, the multiplayer mode adds an extra layer of fun and camaraderie to the game, making it a fantastic choice for social gaming gatherings.

While Mario vs Donkey Kong excels in many aspects, it’s not without minor flaws. Some younger players may find certain levels to be particularly challenging, potentially leading to moments of frustration, though the overall experience is rewarding and enjoyable (according to my trusty 7 year old assistant).

Mario vs Donkey Kong shines as a must-have title for Nintendo Switch owners, delivering an enchanting blend of classic charm and modern gameplay. With its captivating visuals, engaging level design, and delightful multiplayer experience, it stands as a testament to the timeless appeal of the Mario and Donkey Kong franchises. Whether playing solo or with friends, players are sure to find themselves immersed in the captivating world of Mario vs Donkey Kong time and time again. And if you were a fan of the original, you will love the new additions!

Review: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft is a nostalgic treat. If you are not old enough to remember the original games, then this is a must-play trilogy. Additionally, you may worry that the games have aged horribly, but you can put these fears to bed. Each of these exciting adventures has been updated in many ways. Accordingly, it’ll appeal to younger and older audiences.

This remastered adventure trilogy was published and developed by Aspyr. Furthermore, it comprises a whole heap of action and plenty of mind-scratching puzzles. On top of this, there are some death-defying jumps and plenty of humans and animals to slaughter. If you then consider the globe-trotting locations and the excellent storytelling, you realise that this is an experience that you cannot afford to miss.

Lara crosses a bridge into the unknown.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft hasn’t lost its charm.

The original Tomb Raider games were a massive hit. Consequently, this franchise has expanded and evolved to appeal to modern and varied audiences. Thankfully, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft has retained much of its original charm. Furthermore, the modern aesthetic and updated control system will be a hit. Yet, the fluid nature of Lara’s movement takes some getting used to and this was my only bugbear.

Each of the stories revolves around different dramatic scenarios. However, the narrative is nicely linked and there are familiarities across each of the games. On top of this, there are nasty villains to take on, some testing problems to overcome, and some phenomenal scenery to witness. If this isn’t enough, there is a fine arsenal of weapons and plenty of humans and foul beasts to tackle. As such, there are twists and turns on every level.

Time to destroy a mummified beast.

What has changed?

Unlike other remastered titles, this hasn’t polished every element. Instead, many of its building blocks remain the same. This may seem like a strange approach, but the core gameplay and the settings were never an issue. Subsequently, Aspyr has done an amazing job of modernising this game while remaining faithful to the original content.

If you so wish, you can select between the original graphics or the modern remastered version. The difference? Well, the latter looks amazing! The sense of depth and detail was impressive. Additionally, those murky skies are now filled with stars and each water pool looks inviting and realistic. Furthermore, you can picture a more defined route across each dangerous environment. Therefore, the exploration elements feel more fun and alive.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft takes you on a whirlwind world tour.

Where Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft excels is its incredible whirlwind world tour. The varied locations and mind-blowing scenery impressed me years ago. However, when you give it a modern polish, it simply sparkles. As such, you’ll adore each vibrant, exciting, and awe-inspiring arena.

The music is equally good. Little has changed regarding the music, acting, or sound effects. I don’t believe that any aspect of the audio has been upgraded or altered. Consequently, you’ll enjoy the original soundtrack and every grunt, shot, and footstep.

Jump in a kayak and enjoy Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft.

Questionable controls.

The original titles were renowned for being ever so slightly clunky. Yet, it was this rigid approach that helped you to navigate each ledge and leap every chasm. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft attempts to add fluidity to the controls and this doesn’t quite work. Instead, you find that Lara runs an awful lot and this can have devastating consequences. Additionally, it was challenging to line up jumps or run and shoot your opponents. As such, you may find that you flit between modern and old-school controls to get the best out of this.

This remastered trilogy is as moreish and enjoyable as each of the original games. Moreover, you can enjoy them one after another as you romp from one adventure to the next. Additionally, there are plenty of challenging achievements to complete and loads of exciting locations to explore. As such, this oozes both replay value and longevity.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft is a great step down memory lane.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Staring Lara Croft had to do something terrible not to impress me. I loved the originals and I adore the remastered titles. My only complaint is the modern control system. However, this is a small price to pay for such a great experience. Accordingly, I love it and I recommend buying it here! Relive the early Tomb Raider titles. Explore the globe, solve problems, and become a great adventurer.

Gaming Alternatives That Can Have You Hooked

0

Let’s be honest, we can all get a little bored at times. Sunday afternoons when you have no plans, finishing work early and not knowing what to do with yourself. Or even just wanting to enjoy time with your kids, or friends and family. These times present the perfect opportunity to jump on your games console or computer and indulge in a little time to yourself, right? The problem is, that after a bit of time, these things can get a little tedious, and you want to try new things or methods. Or maybe even learn something new.

Boredom is one thing that we may have all gotten a little used to recently, but you don’t have to suffer with it for too long. Even if you are back at work or you have less time on your hands, gaming can be a lot of fun and there are alternatives that can help fill the gaps that you ultimately will still have day to day. With that in mind, here are some of the gaming alternatives that will have you hooked.

Playing games through online websites

You may love your games console and the latest games series that have captured your imagination, but often you may find you want to try new things. The online world is full of websites where you can enjoy different types of games such as online betting or casino fun, or trying out online games where you battle and compete against other people. You could also look into some classics and play retro billiards pool game. Sometimes it is good to cast your net a little further afield and see what you enjoy doing. These games can be great, but you also need to make sure that you use them responsibly and make sure you check them out before parting with any money.

Setting up a gaming tournament amongst friends and family

If you have a favorite game why not get others involved in it too. Games like Fifa or other sports related games are the perfect platform to set up a tournament between friends and family. You can do it together, or work on it at your own pace but it gives that added competitiveness and talking points between you all. You could also get involved in other games like fortnite, where you can enter tournaments through the platform.

Play team games

Another great way to involve your friends and family is to embrace some team games. Games like Fortnite or Apex Legends will enable you to join a party with your friends online so you can be on the same team and play with each other against others online. You could also enjoy team games like Rocket League or even classic games like Fifa. This is a great way to involve your friends and family and enjoy a game playing together, even if you are not in the same room.

Playing your favorite game online

Maybe you have a game that you love, but you have completed the main body of it and are looking for other options. Many games have some form of online version you can play where you can enjoy playing with others all over the world. This can enable you to try out your skills or feel that competitiveness without involving friends or family. If you feel comfortable, you can also use a headset to communicate with people all over the world. Many people love playing games online and it can be a great way to pass some time. Just always remember to keep safe when playing online and don’t disclose personal information.

Organizing a time to play with friends

If you like to play with others why not book the time in with friends and family and play online? It could be a friday night together, but in the comfort of your own home alone which again will help with things like social distancing as we all face this new normal we find ourselves in. You can put on a headset and talk to one another and enjoy the game.

Use games for other reasons

Maybe you want to utilize your gaming passion for other reasons. Perhaps you want to relax instead of feeling stressed or use it as a distraction. Maybe you like to problem solve and use your brain and this is where gaming can come into its own. There are alternative games that you can try that will help you achieve what you want to do. A quick look online searching out what you want and the games console you have should identify some alternative games to try out.

Head out to a games venue

In cities all over the place gaming bars are popping up. This is where you play old school games such as pool, basketball arcade games, table tennis, or even things like retro arcade games and gaming consoles. You can enjoy a couple of drinks with your friends or family and play some games. This is a great way to socialize and a fun thing to do on an afternoon out instead of the usual bar crawls or meals.

Record yourself playing games and put them online

Finally, have you ever thought of sharing your gaming tips? Many people record themselves and the game they are playing and create videos for online platforms like YouTube. It might be that you have a great method for achieving a difficult element of a game, or you just want to share your skills and knowledge. Many people enjoy doing things like this. You could also go live on your social media platforms while you are playing and then chat about the games you are playing and what you are doing. A small thing like this could really boost your profile and lead on to brands wanting to work with you. It could even be a great way to earn some extra money in your spare time. You never know where it might lead.

Let’s hope that this has given you some gaming alternatives to consider trying.

The Strategic Mind: Strategy Games

Strategy games have long been celebrated for testing players’ intellect and decision-making abilities. This genre’s inclusion as part of gaming culture makes them indispensable. Strategy games place success on a player’s ability to strategically plan, strategize and outmaneuver opponents rather than fast reflexes or brute force alone. There are two categories of strategy games: Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Turn-Based Strategy (TBS). RTS games such as “StarCraft” and “Age of Empires” require players to make decisions quickly, as their game world constantly shifts and transforms in real-time. However, TBS games such as “Civilization” and “XCOM” allow players to take their time in considering each move within an orderly environment similar to that found in chess on a grander scale. Complex and deep, this genre takes pride in offering intricate mechanics for managing economies, building armies, exploring new technologies and engaging in diplomatic negotiations between factions. Strategic minds find a home here, in virtual worlds that require foresight, critical thinking and adaptability in order to build empires, conquer battlefields and tell compelling tales that resonate throughout time. Strategy games not only entertain but also challenge and sharpen players’ intellects while each victory stands as testament to them as an individual player’s intellect and ingenuity.

A Pulse-Raising Adventure: Action Games

At the heart of the gaming world lies action games – an irresistibly thrilling adventure which tests reflexes, precision, and quick-thinking decisions in real time. Action games offer players something entirely different. They transport them straight into a world of chaos and excitement. Examples of this genre include “Doom,” “Assassin’s Creed” and “Uncharted,” which offer immersive narratives in which players face numerous challenges ranging from traversing treacherous environments to engaging in high-octane battles. Action games’ appeal lies in their ability to simulate exhilarating experiences – whether that means scaling crumbling towers, dispatching enemy hordes with skill, or pulling off an unforgettable stealth takedown, action games are guaranteed to deliver thrills that you just won’t get anywhere else. Action games often combine elements of exploration, puzzle-solving, and storytelling in one experience, making each playthrough both an intellectual challenge and a cinematic journey. Their engaging graphics and soundtracks create an immersive sensory experience as players become drawn further into these richly designed worlds. Their fast-paced gameplay and compelling narrative arcs offer players a captivating escape into realms where every step counts toward survival – such games capture our imagination like no other medium can.

The Master Builder: Simulation Games

Simulation games provide players with a space to craft virtual worlds with god-like precision. Gaming titles like “The Sims,” “Cities: Skylines,” and “RollerCoaster Tycoon” give gamers a taste of being architects, city planners, or entrepreneurs while creating environments to match their imagination or ideal scenarios. These games go beyond mere construction – they also allow players to explore life within virtual societies by making decisions that will shape society, economy, and ecosystems. Players experience all of the intricacies of resource management, urban planning and social engineering – all through their computer screens! Simulation games offer a unique blend of realism and fantasy that provides an educational playground where experimentation leads to success and greater understanding. Simulation games offer immersive simulations of real-life situations and professions, offering an engaging environment for experimentation and exploration that is both instructive and entertaining. Simulation games provide more than entertainment – they promote critical thinking, strategic planning, and creative problem-solving. Making them a popular genre among those looking to construct, explore, and lead in virtual worlds they created through their own hands and minds.

The Untold Stories: Adventure Games

Adventure games offer players an untold story. As the genre specializes in storytelling and exploration, adventure titles take players into worlds filled with mystery, fantasy and intrigue. Titles like “The Legend of Zelda,” “Grim Fandango,” and “Firewatch” stand out with their complex narratives, immersive environments, and interactive gameplay that prioritizes decision-making over physical dexterity. Players often assume the role of protagonist in these narrative-driven games, where puzzles and challenges must be solved to move the plot along. These narrative-driven experiences aim to elicit emotions and stir thought, inviting players to become fully invested in the characters’ adventures. Adventure games excel at merging rich storytelling with interactive elements, providing players with an experience where they feel as if they’re part of the story themselves. Adventure games provide us with access to an endless number of worlds, ranging from fantasyland to harsh realities, while also providing a deeper understanding of human experience through their characters. Adventure games remind us that behind every choice lies an untold story waiting to be discovered.

The Grand Quest: Role-Playing Games (RPGs)

Role-Playing Games (RPGs) immerse players in vast and expansive worlds where they assume the roles of unique characters on epic quests. RPGs provide an escape into worlds rich with fantasy lore such as “The Elder Scrolls” and “Final Fantasy”, or dystopian futures like those found in “Cyberpunk 2077“. RPGs provide a journey full of mysteries, legends, and adventure! Character creation is at the heart of RPG experience, giving players an opportunity to personalize their avatar’s skillset, appearance and moral compass. These games are known for their deep narratives where every choice has significant ramifications that shape both the world and its inhabitants in profound ways. RPGs offer an immersive storytelling experience through exciting quests, challenging combat, and intricate world-building. Players have an interactive story experience they can delve into with RPGs that encourages exploration, strategy, and personal investment in both the characters and worlds in question. Players may lead an entire party or embark on solo quests – RPGs invite players not only to witness but live the tale themselves.

The Classic Arcade Experience: Pinball and its Digital Evolution

Pinball games have made a successful transition from physical arcades to online casual gaming environments over time, becoming iconic pieces of casual gaming culture. Digital pinball games differ significantly from narrative-driven RPGs in that their focus lies on controlling paddles to keep a ball moving across a virtual table, complete with lights and distinctive themes. These games, similar to their arcade predecessors, place emphasis on high scores, reflexes, and the thrill of defeating odds stacked against players. Digital pinball machines preserve the tactile experience of classic arcade machines while adding innovative features, such as global leaderboards and themed tables based on popular franchises. Pinball games remain popular genres that provide instantaneous entertainment without lengthy narratives or complex game mechanics requiring commitment from gamers.

From simulation games with their strategic depths to action titles’ pulse-pounding excitement, computer games offer something for every taste in our digital era. Gone beyond mere entertainment, computer games have become cultural phenomena, offering alternate realities, testing our skills, and uniting people worldwide. One thing is clear for sure – virtual playgrounds continue to expand into exciting, diverse experiences more rapidly than ever before!

A Deal Through Time: The Evolution of Card Games

0

Imagine this – an evening spent under the soft glow of a lamp with friends or family around, playing cards. This scene, though simple, represents centuries and cultures’ collective card game tradition. From its humble origins through to today’s diverse forms, card games have not just survived time’s tests – they’ve thrived.

Photo by Jarosław Kwoczała on Unsplash

The Early Deal (Origins)

The Birth of Cards in the East

Although the origin of playing cards remains obscure, most historians agree they first appeared in East Asia during China’s Tang Dynasty around the 9th century. It is generally accepted that their earliest form originated there as well. These early cards were likely not used for recreational gaming like they are today but rather as currency used for simple yet entertaining forms of chance play. Woodblock printing was an integral factor in the rise of cards. A method used to print text, images, or patterns allowed for mass production and widespread dissemination of early decks along the Silk Road to Persia and India before making its way towards the Middle Eastern and North African regions. So, they were quite different from the custom playing cards you can order and have delivered the next day, today.

Spreading Suits: Cards Move West

Playing cards from their Eastern origins underwent substantial transformation when entering Europe via Egypt’s Mamluk Sultanate during the late 14th century. European traders and crusaders who had returned home brought these exotic treasures with intricate designs reminiscent of what would later become suit symbols into Europe. Mamluk card decks were constructed using four suits, each composed of ten numeric cards and three court cards – laying the foundation for modern deck designs. Card games quickly spread throughout Europe, and Italians and Spaniards quickly created their own variants that reflected societal interests such as swords, cups, coins, and batons. From there, card designs began to diversify and the number of games expanded rapidly across Europe – each country adding its own flair to suit the designs and rules of play. This period marked the introduction of card games as integral social and cultural activities in Western societies – becoming part of European leisure entertainment culture.

The Age of Standardization

The French Influence

France was an early pioneer of card game standardization. Here is where its seeds were planted – hearts, clubs, diamonds and spades became symbolic suits that also showcased printing technology of that period.

Across the Pond: Cards in America

With colonization came cards’ migration across the pond. The American frontier became a fertile environment for various card games that bridged old with new.

A Pastime For Everyone: The Rise Of Card Games In Homes
Printing technology advanced significantly in the 18th and 19th centuries. Playing cards became more affordable and accessible to most people. It was no longer just a luxury for nobility and the higher classes. They found their way into homes and taverns all over the world. Families would gather around for games. Solo play also grew in popularity, of course. This era was about games of patience, including early forms of solitaire, which provided the right amount of discipline and difficulty for most individuals. During this time, card games had officially cemented themselves as a pastime for social gatherings and solo enjoyment.

The 20th Century and Beyond

War, Cards and Solitude

Conflict has always been a catalyst for change – not only geopolitically but also within everyday soldier life and leisure activities. Card games provided an essential source of entertainment and psychological relief during wartime, particularly World Wars I and II. Soldiers found solace in playing these timeless card games. These games provided temporary respite from their surroundings, providing moments of fun, strategic thinking, and the illusion of control in otherwise unpredictable environments. As World War I progressed, card playing became an integral part of military culture and soldiers’ daily routine. Card games became not just a relaxing pastime but a way for mental relief and social bonding between soldiers who might otherwise have felt alone or isolated from society.

The Digital Shuffle

The introduction of digital technology brought with it a significant transformation in how card games were played, giving rise to “The Digital Shuffle”. This phase marks the transition of card games from physical tables to virtual platforms, enabling players worldwide to connect and compete with just a few clicks. Software developers took advantage of this opportunity to recreate classic card games digitally, adding interactive graphics, artificial intelligence opponents, and multiplayer functionalities for added enjoyment. With the introduction of online card games, competition was broadened even further. Tournaments and leagues could draw players of varying skill levels from across the globe to global tournaments and leagues. Blackjack has entered the digital realm, providing players with an exciting gaming experience and hours of entertainment. This revolution not only preserved traditional card gaming traditions but also introduced accessibility and community features that ensure card gaming continues its timeless appeal in today’s society.

The Everlasting Appeal of Card Games

A Bridge Between Ages

With centuries-long history and timeless charm that spans physical decks to digital screens, card games serve as a cultural bridge that unites generations past and present. These games provide a compelling combination of strategy, skill, and social engagement that remains captivating in any form. No matter if it’s at a family get-together or an intense online tournament, card games remain an engaging form of communication that brings people of all ages together. Their continued appeal shows just how adaptable card games have become. Still maintaining their communal play value and intellectual challenge make them timeless favorites in gaming history.

The Future Is in the Cards

Card gaming seems poised for exciting development as emerging technologies like augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR) continue to advance player experiences beyond previous limits. Imagine strapping on a VR headset and finding yourself immersed in Las Vegas poker tables – or using AR to bring life-sized card games directly onto your kitchen table! These technologies hold great promise to further blur the line between the digital and physical realms, providing immersive experiences that could change how card gaming is enjoyed. Blockchain technology could transform how we play and trade digital cards, providing unprecedented levels of security and authenticity in digital transactions. This may usher in a new era of collectible digital card games where players own their digital assets tangible. Social gaming platforms further emphasize the community aspect of card games, guaranteeing that regardless of technological advancements, their social and strategic core remains intact. Thanks to such advances, card games’ future doesn’t just lie in preserving their legacy but in evolving it for new generations of gamers that follow them – thus assuring its appeal for years to come.

Conclusion

Card games have long been a source of entertainment and culture since their debut in Asia centuries ago. Over time, their presence has pervaded every aspect of human society while remaining relevant today – evolving alongside society while remaining true to themselves. From physical decks of cards to online and virtual game rooms, their spirit remains undiminished, connecting us through their simple joy. Regardless of medium, card games serve to remind us that people truly matter when coming together with hearts and minds in play – this may indeed be life’s ultimate card game of all!

Review: Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions is a touching and amusing title that takes you on a whacky adventure. Moreover, it tastefully tackles the idea of separation and the impact this has on a youngster’s mental health. However, at its core, it focuses on familiar tactical elements and a zany and enjoyable world to explore.

This turn-based strategy title was developed by Momo-Pi Game Studios and published by SHUEISHA Games Inc. What’s more, its writing is wonderfully upbeat and amusing, and the blend of monsters and protagonists will make you smile. Consequently, if you love this genre but want a slight twist on the norm, then this will be the game for you.

The heroes face a sea of enemies.

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions will resonate with many gamers.

If you’ve ever been forced to uproot and leave your friends, you’ll know that it is a harrowing experience. In hindsight, you know it isn’t that bad, but as a youngster, you feel that your world is caving in, and you won’t understand why. Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions tackles this idea with its interesting and imaginative plot. Additionally, the beautifully paced story is out of this world, but fascinating to witness.

You control Damien. He is a shy boy who loves comics and a simple way of life. Yet, when his parents relocate to Japan, he has no choice but to follow. This upheaval turns his life upside down and the only way to cope is to lose himself in his alter ego. This young space captain transports his mind to the Jump+ Dimensions as he tackles an array of enemies. En route, he has to solve problems and help out plenty of strange beings. Yet, unbeknownst to him, it is these travelling beings that keep him on track, whilst allowing his emotions and mindset to prepare for life in Japan.

Simple fundamentals with plenty of twists.

This genre is renowned for being complex and tough to master. However, Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions tries to buck this trend. The simple fundamentals demand that you combine 2 heroes as you explore each short gaming arena. Each of the protagonists has limited moves and if they are close to one another, they can combine to stun enemies, shunt them backwards, hit switches, and much more. Alternatively, you can gather power orbs and unleash a deadly super-attack.

As you eliminate your foes, you regain your health and earn additional movement points. Yet, if you are hit and you lose all your health, you fail the stage and must begin at the start. Subsequently, you must manipulate each situation to maximise your potential. Alongside this, each unique chapter utilises a new hero to support Damien. Therefore, the way you tackle every problem or puzzle will change depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the pair.

Another chapter, another interesting boss.

Bosses, bosses, bosses.

The use of familiar mechanics was a great idea. Consequently, the learning curve isn’t that harsh and I found myself up and running in no time at all. However, the twist on the normal ideas and the blend of unique character abilities was fascinating to master.

As much as I loved the opening stages, my attention was piqued whenever I took on any of the game’s massive bosses. These cruel entities will push your thinking to the limits. Additionally, you must consider a large array of tactical elements if you wish to overcome them. As such, failure is all but assured and these encounters can become frustrating whilst testing your patience. Yet, once you understand what is required from you, you’ll feel a sense of reward.

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions is a striking experience.

The developers have combined Manga/Anime cinematic alongside a colourful and imaginative world. Moreover, the use of an isometric viewpoint and a free-moving camera allows you to freely investigate each environment. When you combine this approach with a clean and easy-to-use UI, you can easily plan your tactics. On top of this, the world is fantastic to explore and, though the number of enemies is limited, they all look great and their animation and movement are fascinating to watch.

The audio is fun, jovial, and brilliantly varied. The blend of sad songs and high-energy tunes helps to enhance the drama of the story. What’s more, the exciting sound effects and sharp noises bring the cinematic to life.

The dog boss attacks you with a fiery blaze.

Amazing controls.

This genre is much better with a mouse and keyboard. Yet, Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions has a simple controller layout. Additionally, the excellent tutorial keeps you on track. If you then consider the clean UI and the obvious grid system, you cannot go wrong.

Where this is lacking is its replay value. Sadly, the story is linear, and the stages do not change. As such, each playthrough follows the same pattern and this creates a repetitive edge. Thankfully, though, the first run is enjoyable and this slightly mitigates this issue.

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions is a gem of an indie title.

If you love Manga/Anime and strategy games, then you will adore Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions. The blend of interesting characters and the fascinating world is endearing. Additionally, I loved how the story deals with issues of separation and anxiety. Accordingly, I loved it and I recommend buying it here! Can you overcome the issues that you face? Use your imagination, work together, and become stronger as a consequence.

Gaming is Supposed to Be Fun

We mentioned it above and we’ll delve into it here! Gaming is supposed to be fun, pure and simple. If you’re good at a game, it could one day turn into a profitable side hustle through participating in e-sports or turning your hand to streaming, but that’s only in extreme cases. If you’re just out to have fun, gaming is the perfect hobby for you.

Plus, even when you’re ‘bad’ at a game, you’re going to pick up a few new skills. You can improve your hand eye coordination along the way, as well as your reaction time, but be sure to take a break and look away from the screen at least every 20 minutes. It’s easy to get caught up in the flow of a game and forget about this!

Which brings us to the next point:

You Don’t Have to Be the Perfect Player – Ever!

If you’re dying in game at least twice a round? That’s fine. If you’re needing to be ‘carried’ by your teammates? Who really cares! You’re having fun, you’re at least conquering a couple of objectives, and it’s just a game in the end.

As long as you and your friends are having a good time, it really isn’t a big deal if you aren’t the perfect player. And you never actually have to become one either. You can play as and when you want and that might mean you don’t get any better. On the other hand, you can dedicate a bit of time to practicing, but that’s only if the game itself piques your interest.

In fact, let’s talk about that a bit more:

Think About Practicing a Bit in Your Own Time

Practice makes perfect, and that’s even true in the gaming sphere. But hang on – if gaming is meant to be fun, why do you need to practice? Surely that goes against everything we’ve said so far about gaming?

Well, it’s because gaming is a hobby like any other! And the more you know how to get involved, the more fun you’re going to have, rather than feeling useless for making mistakes every other minute. Sometimes getting good at a game actually means improving your overall confidence!

Indeed, when you feel like you’re good at something, you’re going to be able to relax and switch your mind off when you’re indulging in it. You won’t be worrying about what other players might be thinking and/or whether or not you’re letting your team down.

Get Some Experience with Gaming Strategy

Gaming strategy is going to vary from game to game, but the more you can sort games into their genres and what will be expected from you as a player of them, the easier it’ll be to play.

If you want to try a simple strategy game that’ll help you think a step ahead when playing a grand start or an isometric top down, pick up a game of checkers every now and then. Games like checkers are classics, so there’s plenty of advice out there to follow as well.

Get to know your preferred playstyle and you’ll be able to pick up single player games and enjoy them in your own time too.

Get Comfortable with Voice Calls

This is one for the socially awkward among us. How do you feel about talking over a Discord call with your closest friends? If the idea makes you uncomfortable, try it every now and then to see how you fare. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a lot easier to do than many people think.

After all, you’re not here to impress anyone like you are on a work Zoom call. You’re just hanging out and cracking jokes, and it’s even OK to fall silent and mute your mic from time to time too.

Gaming calls can be a lot of fun when they’re private and it’s just the few of you. However, if you’re in a server together with some people you don’t know, don’t be afraid of a stranger joining either. You might end up getting on very well!

When In-game, Only Focus on Your Friends

And finally, if you’re often asked to come along to a gaming session but you’re nervous about playing an online multiplayer because of the amount of terrible people you might come across, we understand your hesitancy.

After all, some people can be very rude, bigoted, and even make you feel like you’re personally in danger through what they say. But to counter this, and to make sure you never feel like you can’t do something fun, we recommend only ever focusing on your friends when you’re playing massively multiplayer.

Mute the lobby and only accept incoming messages from people you already know. This way, even if someone wants to verbally attack you, they’re just going to be shouting into the void.

If you’ve got some close gamer friends, you can join their sessions whenever you want if you just ask. Don’t let a lack of skill (or feeling like you lack skill) hold you back. You’re here to have fun, have a laugh, and spend time with people you love. And gaming is such an accessible hobby; it really is for anyone and everyone!

Review: The Inquisitor

The Inquisitor is a dark and grim title that twists modern religious beliefs. On top of this, it has similarities to The Witcher. However, fans of that franchise shouldn’t get too excited as many of those similarities are only skin deep. This almost linear title does a lot of great things as you progress across two realms. Additionally, there is a blend of genres that steal key elements to keep you entertained and focused throughout.

This investigative religious game was developed by The Dust SA and published by Kalypso Media. Moreover, there is a smattering of combat, some QTEs, and a fair bit of puzzling to contend with. However, it is the detective elements that sit at the fore. This fine decision will capture your attention and test your logical mindset. Yet, though it combines some fun mechanics, the core gameplay is pretty slow-paced and this takes some getting used to.

Mordimer stands in front of a gothic cathedral.

The Inquisitor tells a fantastic story.

You know Jesus Christ, the son of God who died for our sins on the cross? Well, forget everything you know as The Inquisitor tells a gory and grim alternative version of events. Instead of dying on the cross, Jesus breaks free and goes on a bloody rampage across the globe. In his wake, a new religion is formed. You are part of this sect as you play the role of Mordimer Madderdin. This gruff gentleman has been sent to Koeningstein to investigate reports of a Vampire. During his search, he must deal with an array of issues whilst flitting between the realm of man and the Unworld!

It was this seamless transition between “reality” and the ungodly realm that was utterly fascinating. Additionally, the blend of stealth and combat was a great decision. When in the realm of man, Mordimer must use his special skills to find clues and uncover the truth. Whether he is eavesdropping a conversation or questioning an individual outright, he gets the job done. On top of this, he can use a special power to track the scent of any interesting item. This weird ability changes the perspective of the action as you follow a red trail. However, this power runs out and the only way to renew it is to pray.

Build up the clues.

In typical investigatory fashion, the action comes to a head when the hero has collected enough clues. Yet, it wouldn’t be a bizarre and twisted title if The Inquisitor didn’t test your resolve. Instead of accusing an individual, the protagonist enters the Unworld. This dangerous and dark plain can kill you. What’s more, a shadowy being known as The Murk wishes to banish you from its realm. As such, you must use stealth, prayer, and light to overcome every obstacle and evade its stare.

If this wasn’t enough, dark wraiths test your patience and your ability with a sword. Yet, these basic combat encounters aren’t as enthralling as I’d have liked. Instead, they act as an exciting filler between the investigatory moments. This was probably The Inquisitor’s Achilles Heel. Had the developers put more effort into this side of the game, I believe it would have appealed to a larger audience.

A body is found and Mordimer must investigate.

QTEs and boss battles.

I use the phrase boss battle in the loosest of contexts. As your investigation comes to a head, you will have to encounter a boss of sorts. Each of these moments is broken down into stages of ever-increasing difficulty. Furthermore, you may be expected to fight the pissed-off overlord or complete an array of tasks. Either way, each layer becomes tougher, and your resolve is tested along the way.

Alongside this, there is a smattering of QTEs to deal with. These basic moments will not push you too hard as they are well-considered and work with each scenario. As such, the developer has done a great job of incorporating them into the gameplay.

The Inquisitor has some odd visual moments.

Though the dark and seedy world is fantastic, the visuals look a little dated. Alongside this, there are some glitches and the lip-syncing isn’t that impressive. Yet, these issues aren’t a problem and I laughed more than I was annoyed. What I loved was the grim aesthetic and the varied character models. Furthermore, the juxtaposed nature of reality and the Unworld was fantastic.

The Inquisitor could have done better with its acting. The gruff and monotonous nature of the protagonist made me smile. Yet, I’m not sure if this was intended. Additionally, the accents are occasionally tough to understand and this was problematic. However, the soundtrack was great and the blend of dramatic songs and mournful music was great. The sound effects added to the sense of despair and I loved the OTT nature of each fight and the light atmospheric sounds.

A darkened room and plenty of decisions to make.

Keep on running!

Mordimer is a busy man. However, his need to jog from point A to B was a little unnerving and unnecessary. This constant fast pace made navigating some of the tight spaces hard, and it was silly to look at. Yet, once you get used to his rushed demeanour, you adjust your movements accordingly. Other than this issue, I was impressed with the excellent UI, the responsive inputs, and the easy-to-learn controls.

The Inquisitor focuses on a semi-linear story. Consequently, there are few plot twists and this impacts replay value and longevity. However, there are collectables to find and plenty of characters to interact with. Therefore, if you love to find every item and deep-dive into every piece of lore, this title will keep you coming back for more.

The Inquisitor was fun to play.

Unlike its peers, The Inquisitor isn’t an instant classic. Instead, this game does enough to make you smile. The blend of mechanics is enjoyable, and the setting is uncomfortable and interesting to explore. Moreover, I liked the seamless transition between realms and the challenging boss encounters. If you then consider the pleasant cinematic and interesting characters, this was a fun game to play. Accordingly, I enjoyed it and I recommend buying it here! Can you solve the Vampire problem? Question the locals, take down the bosses, and survive The Murk.

7 Best Practices for Crisis Response in Airports and Airlines

0

In the highly developed and regulated aviation field, crisis response is a vital part of operational management for airports and airlines. While airport managers are mainly responsible for the incidents on their premises, airline managers have to deal with incidents in their home country and outside their base of operations. This requires a well-thought-out crisis management strategy incorporating detailed planning, cross-functional coordination, and regular drills.

In this article, we will explore seven best practices for Crisis Response in Airports and Airlines.

Crisis Management Planning

A crisis management plan is the foundation of a successful response. This involves creating elaborate emergency procedures for handling local and remote incidents in a timely manner. A Crisis Management Team (CMT) needs to be established cross-functionally. Representatives from different departments, including operations, legal, public relations, and HR, should be on the team.

During a crisis, this ensures a coordinated approach throughout the organization. For instance, maintaining up-to-date JetBlue flight status is critical in ensuring passengers are informed during operational disruptions.

Regular Simulation Drills

Simulation drills should be conducted regularly to evaluate the effectiveness of crisis management plans. Staff should be prepared for emergency situations that may occur at “away” locations during exercises. They also give the chance to redefine communication strategies and increase interdepartmental coordination.

Communication Channels

Communication channels that work become the basis of the crisis response. There must be a robust framework of communication between all stakeholders involved – emergency services, airlines, airport crews, passengers, and the media. For instance, flight updates such as BA Flight Status become important in managing passenger expectations and communications during crises.

Staff Training

A comprehensive staff training program would enhance the readiness of staff members to respond to emergencies. Besides training on specific crisis response roles, it should also address cultural competence and sensitivity to respond appropriately to different groups’ needs.

A passenger and family assistance program with a structured approach would be the next essential element, which would provide help and services for the people who are involved in an incident. This program shall guarantee psychological aid, accommodation, and clear communication regarding the investigation and compensation.

Media and Public Relations Management

Managing media and public relations is also a critical factor in crisis management. Airlines and airports should have strategic media engagement plans and trained media spokespersons to ensure consistent and correct messages are given. Taking advantage of social media and digital platforms allows real-time messaging and alerts.

Coordination with Local Authorities and Services

Cooperation with the local authorities and the emergency services is crucial, especially for cases that do not happen in the airline’s or airport’s home base. Establishing mutual aid agreements and the knowledge of local emergency procedures can be essential in developing a collaborative response.

Documentation and Compliance

Documentation and compliance are another area of significance. Accurate records documentation during a crisis is an essential tool for investigation, legal compliance, and the improvement of future training exercises. Secondly, conducting thorough post-incident reviews is critical to continuous improvement.

These reviews provide feedback on lessons learned and areas for improvement. This information is used to revise crisis management plans and operation protocols.

Review: Ontotis

Ontotis is a game that offers a lot of promise. However, its familiar and well-trodden approach will do nothing but anger veterans of the genre. I’d even hazard a guess that newbies will be annoyed by the flat gameplay and the lack of jump scares. In short, much of the action focuses on clichéd ideas. Furthermore, it leans heavily on its audio, creating an unfortunate imbalance.

This psychological horror title was published and developed by Xenoplasis Games. Additionally, it utilises a range of hidden object mechanics and some basic puzzle elements to add depth and excitement. Yet, these core principles do little to enhance an otherwise dull and short experience. At every turn, you are welcomed by eerie writing and some strange events. However, there is little to genuinely make you afraid and this was disappointing.

Use your torch to explore the darkened house.

Ontotis tells a familiar tale.

You see this adventure through the eyes of Robert. He is a caretaker and is mourning the loss of his wife. As the autumn/winter season hits, he must look after a group of abandoned houses. Yet, this isn’t easy as a severe storm approaches, and he must lock down the final property. Things take a turn for the worse as he convinces himself that otherworldly elements are afoot! Furthermore, the image of a darkened entity sends shivers down his spine!

Though the opening 10 minutes of Ontotis will have you on the edge of your seat, the brown trouser risk dissipates very quickly. The opening moments are genuinely impressive, and I enjoyed settling into the story. Yet, once the initial impact passes, the drama fades away to nothing. Unfortunately, things don’t get any better as you explore your surroundings. The requirement to search drawers and open cupboards was dated and uninspiring. Matters were made worse when you ran out of batteries for your torch and were left fumbling around in the dark.

A shadowy figure is illuminated by a lantern.

Plenty of silly moments.

The developer claims that this is an immersive and atmospheric game. Therefore, I expected to lose myself for hours. However, this wasn’t the case, as there are too many silly moments that break up the immersion. The idea that you must open new paths and unlock doors was interesting. Yet, I can’t help but think a lot of the core mechanics are ridiculous. The idea that the protagonist can’t use a broken axe because they are missing part of the shaft is borderline insane. Additionally, if you happen to run out of batteries, you are screwed.

The developers wanted to create a sense of urgency and drama, but it was stupidly silly. Moreover, the clichéd writing and uninspired messages written in blood were off-putting. If you then consider the occasional “spooky” moment, you simply laugh rather than run for the hills. Unfortunately, these basic ideas are the building blocks for every element, and they leave you wanting.

Ontotis is aesthetically pleasing.

I genuinely didn’t like much of the action. Yet, I cannot say the same about the visuals or the audio. The small game world was interesting to look at. Additionally, the claustrophobic space and occasionally weird goings-on match the intended genre. Moreover, the use of lighting was impressive when it worked. However, the limited settings will disappoint gamers who like to tweak things to their liking.

The audio is where Ontotis excels. The noise of the storm and the creak of floorboards and closing doors were impressive.  When combined with the tight and uncomfortable spaces, it puts you on edge. Yet, the monotonous nature of the acting wasn’t so good. I wish the developers had focused on this element as it could have created something truly exceptional.

Use your repaired axe to open the door.

Occasionally clumsy controls.

Though Ontotis can be played using Steam Deck, it isn’t great. What’s more, I found the need to pick up small items to be fiddly and clumsy. However, the UI is well-considered, and the control layout is simple to understand. Therefore, though it wasn’t perfect, it is bearable.

Disappointingly, there are few reasons to return to this once you are done. On top of this, the short game time leaves little to be desired. If you want a lengthy and deep experience, then you will need to look elsewhere. Yet, if you are happy with a mindless endeavour, maybe this will tick that box.

Ontotis should have been better.

The developers played it safe, and it has unfortunately backfired. Not only is this uninspiring, but the clichéd action and poorly written story will leave you wanting. On top of this, it lacks any jump scares and once you settle into the action, you will feel uninspired. Consequently, I do not recommend buying it. However, more information can be found here! Don’t let your mind play tricks on you. Search the house, find each item, and solve the mystery.

0

Over the course of the past decade, the mobile market has expanded rapidly and this market is gonna continue to grow in years to come. There are millions of different mobile apps and games that represent various categories and niches. The competition in the mobile app market is getting fierce with every passing day and mobile app developers are looking for ways to stand out among the competition.

For this reason, conducting extensive app market research is very important for mobile app developers nowadays. If you are not familiar with what app market research is, it is the process of gathering information about various mobile apps and the latest market trends to make informed decisions about app development and marketing. The research includes everything from analyzing market trends and consumer behavior to identifying competitors, their strengths, and weaknesses, and understanding the preferences of the target audience.

If you are wondering how to perform mobile app market research, then this guide below will be of help to you.

Define and Understand the Target Audience

First thing first, you should define your target audience and learn more about them. Defining your target audience will help you throughout your mobile app development and marketing process while learning about your target audience will help you to come up with strategies to retain your customers in a better way and market your app in the most effective way.

Once you define your target audience according to the niche or category of your app, you should collect information like audience demographics, audience preferences, audience habits, and audience challenges. This information will form the basis of app development, as it will guide everything from your mobile app design to your marketing strategies.

Competitor Analysis

The next thing that you have to do is learn about your competition and apps similar to your app idea. In any market research, learning about your competition is an important part. While performing market research, you need to ensure whether there exists any app similar to your app idea or not, and if it exists, what the competition looks like. The last thing that any app developer would want to do is invest his time, money, and other resources to produce an app that offers nothing unique to users.

Competitor analysis will provide you clarity into which direction you should proceed and what type of features you should include in your app that other apps don’t have to offer. You can gather all such information about your competition by using the competitor apps and also from the developer website of various apps.

Just as analyzing your competition is necessary, so is analyzing the market trends to understand the current state of the mobile app market and the categories that are growing and declining in popularity. Market trends and market situation analysis can help you identify emerging opportunities in the market so that you can capitalize on those opportunities to make your resources and efforts count.

Keep an Eye on Social Media

Don’t forget to utilize social media when conducting mobile app market research because social media has become an important part of the lives of many people. Most people have become social media addicts and this can help you not only identify the trends but also the user behavior and preferences. Keep an eye on social media updates, see how people download different apps, know what your competitors are doing on social media, and find out what’s working for them. Any developer who is not utilizing social media for research purposes is definitely missing out on a lot of useful information.

Perform SWOT Analysis

A SWOT analysis is a vital part of any research strategy and includes Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. It can help you identify and examine internal strengths and weaknesses. Perform a SWOT analysis of your app or business and find out about your strengths, weaknesses gaps, possible opportunities to grow, and any issues that you cannot control. Doing a self SWOT analysis will provide you with a level of overview which will allow you to formulate a roadmap that will lead to the success of your mobile app.
