Review of the Samsung Wave II Smartphone

Samsung were kind enough to loan us a few of their Bada based smartphones for review, and the first one we looked at was the Samsung Wave II (GT-S8530).

UWHS Review- Samsung Wave II 001

Featuring a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash, the new handset benefits from improved social networking integration via Samsung’s Social Hub which means people can sync their phonebook with their social network, Instant Messenger and email accounts.

The Samsung Wave II features a 3.7” Super Clear LCD display which not only offers stunning brightness and improved visibility when outside, it’s also ideal for people who want to use their phone to look at videos and photos or to play games. Running on Samsung’s latest OS Bada 1.2, the new handset also comes with front facing HD video capture and playback which supports multiple platforms for easy viewing of different movie file types.

This combined with its social network integration means it’s never been easier for people to share their photos and video content with their friends and family. And at a super-slim 11.8mm, the Samsung Wave II is the perfect size for them to edit their photos and videos in the palm of their hand.

T-Mobile NOT Capping the Full Monty Phone Package

0

Last week we told you about T-Mobile’s new Full Monty package which includes unlimited data. Then we told you it was being capped at a maximum speed of 1Mb/s. Now it’s not!

t-mobile-logo-huge_1801784c_thumb_th

This is what T-Mobile are offering:

  • Unlimited internet, texts and T-Mobile calls
  • Plus 2000 minutes to other networks

From just £36 a month (24 months)

This is what has been said to clarify the situation:

Our groundbreaking Full Monty plan allows for full enjoyment of data services on the latest smartphones, such as social networking, browsing, music downloading and video streaming.

We continually look at our customers’ data needs and requirements to ensure we’re able to provide a great network experience for everyone.

We can confirm that we do not have a 1Mb/S maximum data download speed in place for The Full Monty plan – nor for any of our other pay monthly or pay as you go price plans – and we are confident that our average data speeds are as good, if not better, than anyone else in the industry.

T-Mobile joined forces with Orange in 2010 giving customers free access to each other’s signal and coverage. Further to this, thanks to the ‘big 3G switch on’ last year, we now offer our customers the UK’s widest 3G coverage. We are constantly developing our network, and recently announced we’re investing a further £1.5billion in network improvements over the next three years.

We apologise for any confusion caused by this matter.

So, it’s back to looking quite good! Have you tried it yet? What do you think?

Phones 4u announces JUMP contract for regular phone upgrades

0

Phones 4u is today announcing the national rollout of JUMP (‘Just Upgrade My Phone’) – a new type of contract which enables consumers to upgrade their mobile phone, from a selection of the latest smartphones on the market, as often as every 6 months.

phones4u

Differing from other flexible offerings on the market, JUMP doesn’t require any upfront fees at the point of upgrade and customers own rather than lease the handset. For the added flexibility of being able to upgrade as often as every six months, customers will only need to initially pay an average added monthly cost of £2.99 – £3.99, dependent on the original JUMP contract chosen.

JUMP has been successfully trialled since May 2011 in 100 stores. The national rollout begins today and the offering is expected to be available in all of Phones 4u’s 586+ stores, via Phones 4u online and via Phones 4u telesales by May 2012. We will also be supporting JUMP as part of a wider multi-million pound ATL Phones 4u campaign this year.

Alistair Firth, Director of Customer Development at Phones 4u said: “Technology is moving fast and innovative handsets are launching all the time on the market but to date there’s been a disconnect between the frequency of smartphone releases and the length of mobile phone contracts on offer. We want to give our customers the freedom to own the very latest smartphones like the iPhone 4S without having to wait 18-24 months for an upgrade. The idea for JUMP was born out of research we conducted that revealed people were frustrated by the inability to upgrade their handsets sooner”.

JUMP’s unique proposition is that instead of offering one contract to customers with a mobile network, it’s been broken down into two; one with the airtime provider for minutes, texts and data and one with Phones 4u for the handset, which are both for a minimum term of 24 months. This provides the customer with total ownership of the handset and their monthly pay plan. When customers choose to upgrade, there is no upfront fee involved – they can trade in the handset, which Phones 4u guarantees will be worth at least £100 for the first 12 months, along with up to two more, and create a new plan. Alternatively, they do have the option of keeping it for themselves or giving it to someone else.

“We conducted extensive research prior to the trial and national roll-out to inform the JUMP model and ensure it truly met consumer needs”, adds Firth. “We discovered 18-35 year olds don’t want to return a handset on a leasing model. This is because they are used to keeping handsets as part of their mobile phone contract, they hold concerns over losing data or voiding the warranty if they customize the phone, and worry about paying a surcharge if the phone is damaged. We used these findings to help shape the JUMP offering and believe it offers the best flexibility and benefits of any deal currently available on the market”.

As part of the JUMP service, Phones 4u is also offering remote data back-up and storage for contacts, music, pictures and videos, as well as dedicated customer support accessible via a dedicated number and website. Phones 4u aims to attract new customers with the JUMP offering, who want the option to own the latest smartphones when they want, at an affordable monthly cost, and which offers additional services currently not available as part of other smartphone contracts.

SYNC Accelerates into 2013 as Standard Equipment on New Ford Fusion and Flex

The 2013 Ford Fusion and Flex cars will get SYNC as standard equipment on all trim levels.

IMG_7919

This is what Ford said yesterday:

Ford SYNC, the voice-activated in-car connectivity system introduced in 2007, now is installed in more than 4 million Ford Motor Company vehicles

Powered by the Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive platform, SYNC has created the “upgradeable car,” allowing new features and improvements to be seamlessly integrated on a pace with consumer trends and preferences

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 9, 2012 – Drivers of more than 4 million vehicles already take advantage of mobile device connectivity provided by Ford SYNC, which is available as either optional or standard equipment on every new Ford sold in NorthAmerica. That population is set to grow even more for 2013 as the all-new Ford Fusion and Flex get SYNC as standard equipment.

Since its debut in 2007, SYNC has been recognized as the industry-leading system for connecting mobile phones and media players and enabling hands-free use through a simple and reliable voice-control system.

“Ford SYNC technology has led the industry in transforming the way we connect to our cars,” said Dave Mondragon, Ford general marketing manager. “SYNC has enabled Ford drivers to take advantage of the latest communication and entertainment technology with an easily upgradeable architecture that is friendly to use.”

Every all-new Fusion from the base car through to the advanced plug-in Fusion Energi, as well as the redesigned Flex, will be equipped with SYNC whether it has an entry-level audio system or top-of-the-line MyFord Touch interface. Compatible phones and media players can be connected to SYNC through a standard USB port or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Nine states have now completely banned the use of hand-held phones by drivers with at least 35 states prohibiting texting behind the wheel. At the same time, Americans are more connected than ever, with the mobile industry trade group CTIA estimating more than 300 million cell phones were in use in the United States by mid-2011.

Hands-free, voice-activated control of music playback and phone calls enables drivers to drive safer by keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. With a connected mobile phone, drivers can also use SYNC Services to get voice-activated access to a cloud-based network of information including traffic, news, sports, weather, horoscopes, stock quotes and movie listings along with business searches and turn-by-turn directions.

In the event of an accident, SYNC 911 Assist can directly call emergency services and transmit the vehicle location to first responders.

Upgradeability

Fusion and Flex drivers aren’t limited to the SYNC functionality that was built in when they bought the car. As new features are added to SYNC, owners can visit SYNCMyRide.com to download free updates to a USB flash drive that can be loaded into the car.

Drivers today spend more time on the road than ever before, and Ford recognizes the need to stay safe and connected. The redesigned 2013 Ford Fusion and Flex will lead the way to a projected 9 million more SYNC-powered vehicles over the next three years.
