WHS Add-In Update : iHomeServer for iTunes v2 Beta

We first told you about iHomeServer for iTunes back in December, now there is a prerelease/beta version with some new features available to test.

iTunes is fast becoming the centre of many home entertainment systems. iTunes technologies such as Home Sharing and Air Play allow you to keep a centralised media library of music and video and share it with all your other household media devices. For example, you can digitize your music CDs and your DVDs into your iTunes library and then stream them to any your Apple TV, iPad or iPhone. You can even remote control your iTunes installation to push media to several sets of speakers in your house simultaneously using the Apple Remote App. However, all these great features rely on iTunes being up and running.

What is needed is an iTunes Server platform – Enter iHomeServer.

iHomeServer wraps iTunes so you can install and run it on a Windows Home Server, dedicated iTunes workstation or just a spare PC you have lying around. iHomeServer starts iTunes automatically when the computer starts, keeps it running and allows you to manage iTunes without having to physically access the computer, for example via the Windows Home Server Management Console. It also makes it really easy to add new media to your iTunes Media Server.

Significantly improved handling of media when iTunes is set to “copy added media to the iTunes Media library” – no more false failures showing up
Importing of iTunes Media Library XML files from other instances of iTunes – automatic matching of data with your the instance of iTunes run by iHomeServer. iHomeServer will then update ratings, play counts, last play dates and playlist membership – this is a great easy way of copying other iTunes metadata across from a personal computer to your iTunes server without having to do a full iTunes folder migration.
Ability to change the credentials of user iHomeServer runs iTunes as from the ‘Settings’ dialog
Ability to run other applications when iHomeServer launches iTunes – configurable to run either before or after iTunes is launched
Added ability to alter “Part of compilation” metadata within the metadata editor

HTC Unveil the new HTC One series of smartphones

HTC, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled its new HTC One series of smartphones that represent its most premium mobile experience with a new level of iconic design and amazing camera and authentic sound experience.

With HTC’s most premium experience, the HTC One series integrates Android 4.0 (ICS) with HTC Sense™ 4, the new version of HTC’s branded user experience that is introducing HTC ImageSense™, a new suite of camera and imaging features that set HTC One apart from other phones. HTC Sense 4 also includes broad enhancements to audio quality and simplifies how people listen to music on their phone.

Amazing Camera

Sony Mobile Communications today unveiled the latest additions to its Xperia™ NXT series – next generation smartphones from Sony, the new Xperia P and Xperia U. In addition, Xperia S, the ultimate HD smartphone, is now shipping to markets across the globe, with first sales in the Sony Style store in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress. Over the last few weeks, Covecube have released a number of updates to it’s Stablebit DrivePool Beta, and now they have published information on how file duplications works in the beta.

What’s interesting is that Covecube say “DrivePool BETA M4 has been out for a while now and is nearing a final release.” – so hopefully that means we won’t have long to wait, because it seems to be taking a very long time to come out, especially when you consider that it’s main competition, DriveBender, has been out for a long time now.

Samsung have also announced the new GALAXY Beam smartphone at MWC 2012, which enables users to share photos, videos and other media by beaming the content onto any surface.

GALAXY Beam lets users spontaneously share photos, videos or other digital media with family or friends by beaming content stored on the device directly onto walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces, so that everyone can share the fun without the need to huddle around smartphone or pad-sized screens. GALAXY Beam’s ultra-bright 15 lumens projector allows users to freely share life’s memorable moments instantly and in crisp clarity, even in outdoor environments.

Video clips, maps, business information, games – a whole range of multimedia content can be beamed instantly by GALAXY Beam on a crisp, high-definition projection up to 50’’ wide. The device features a projector-dedicated application which makes it easy to select content and activate projection in a few simple steps.

What is a little strange though is that the Beam will be running Android 2.3 and not Android 4.0, which is a surprise.

No specifics on a release date or price yet, but watch this space.

Samsung introduces its first line-up of tablets for 2012 with the launch of the GALAXY Tab 2 series, expanding the choice of tablets to customers.

The GALAXY Tab 2 series includes a 7″ version and a 10.1″ version. Starting from UK, the GALAXY Tab 2 series will be launched in global market from March.

No news on pricing yet, so watch this space! March is also the rumoured release date for the iPad 3 so it could be an interesting time for tablet buyers!

The GALAXY Tab 2 series is available in 3G and WiFi versions, as well as in 7″ and 10.1″ variants. Light and portable, the GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) is the ideal personal on-the-go device; while the larger GALAXY Tab 2 (10.1) is well-suited for home and family use.

As a child I spent a lot of time playing on arcade machines. Well now I can relive some of the games I played with the Midway Arcade app for the iPhone and iPad.

Midway Arcade provides the ultimate arcade experience with a virtual showroom equipped with 10 classic arcade games, tickets and virtual prizes. In Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, the inmates have escaped and Batman has his hands full defeating an army of henchmen and some of his most iconic villains. Scour the rooftops and the seedy underbelly of Gotham City through a series of one-on-one battles with The Joker, Two-Face and more, as well as the Batman: Arkham City Lockdown exclusive enemy – Deathstroke. Choose from several Batman skins and power-ups as you punch, kick and combo your way to cleaning up Gotham City.
