Ahead of their big press conference at CES 2013, Samsung have announced the expansion of its digital audio line-up. One of the announcements is for the HT-F9750W 7.1 Channel Home Theatre System.

HT-F9750[3]

Samsung’s 7.1 Channel Home Theatre System (model HT-F9750W) was created to be the perfect counterpart for a Samsung 2013 TV, with design and usability that bring home a totally seamless experience. The new TV Sound On feature allows users to instantly activate the system’s 1,330-watt sound while muting the internal TV speaker with a single click of the remote control. This flagship HTS incorporates Samsung’s proprietary valve amplifier, as well as the latest in Smart TV features to create the best entertainment experience available.

For a larger-than-life experience comparable to that of a movie theatre, the HT-F9750W offers the multi-dimensional sound of a swivel speaker, coupled with a new DTS Neo fusion processor – exclusive to Samsung – that further enhances vertical sound to deliver unprecedented sound quality to the home. A Gallium Nitride (GaN) amplifier can handle a sound range beyond the typical audible frequency range. Paired with a valve amplifier, consumers will enjoy true, natural sound with minimal distortion.

The exceptional picture quality of the HT-F9750W is immediately noticeable, even on the Ultra-High Definition (UHD) TV sets coming to market in 2013. Samsung’s 4K Processor generates true-to-life pictures with vivid colours, and also upscales high-definition content to UHD-level picture quality.

The Blu-ray component of the HT-F9750W can run multiple apps simultaneously, and also offers Samsung’s latest Smart Hub and AllShare features. This 1,330-watt system is an excellent addition for any audiophile looking for the finest home entertainment experience

Preview of DmC Devil May Cry from Capcom

DmC Devil May Cry from Capcom is out in a few weeks time and we have been playing it, so here is our preview.

ScreenShot0000311

In this retelling of Dante’s origin story which is set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry retains the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have
defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge.

The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or indeed society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have
tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast.

Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group called “The Order”, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon
and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to
dramatically affect both combat and movement.

ScreenShot000000 ScreenShot000001

For DmC Capcom has teamed up with UK development studio, Ninja Theory, renown for delivering action titles with compelling characters and narrative coupled with high production values.

The combination of Ninja Theory’s expertise and Capcom’s unrivalled heritage in producing combat focused action titles will ensure that this latest addition to the over 11-million selling series will remain true to the Devil May Cry DNA so cherished by the fans, while bringing a new level of cinematic quality to the title.

ScreenShot000004 ScreenShot000005

I have to be honest, I haven’t really played much of the previous DmC games, so I am going in fairly cold here, but I have seen a few demo’s and played a little at Gamescom and so I was exciting to finally get to play with it properly.

So the game starts of with a naked Dante standing outside his trailer where he gets pulled into Limbo City and then gets attacked by a Hunter Demon. There is a rather amusing sequence where his trailer gets pulled away and he flies in slow motion through the trailer getting dressed as he goes, all the while his modesty is covered by a variety of flying objects, including a slice of pizza. Hopefully this gives you a little insight into the humour in the game, which keeps it from getting too dark!

ScreenShot000013 ScreenShot000015

It’s pretty much then straight into the fighting – there are many moves to learn and button sequences that perform a multitude of attacks.

This is where fighting game fans and fans of DmC will love this game. The fighting mechanics are amazing, as I mentioned there are lots of moves to learn and different techniques and combos to use. At the beginning of the game Dante only has a limited number of sword attacks but as time and the game moves on he quickly learns new abilities and acquires new weaponry from both Angel’s and Demons alike.

One nice thing for someone like me who hasn’t played much of the previous DmC games is that this gave me time to get used to the different weapons and combos rather than just throwing me in at the deep-end.

A don’t worry, Dante’s twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory make a welcome return.

ScreenShot000022 ScreenShot000025

The battles are quick and ferocious, and there are a lot of cut scenes. Sometimes this gets a little in the way of the action, but it’s all part of the story, so hopefully players won’t be too put off! But I have to say those cut scenes are very cool and are worth watching.

Oh, did I mention that there are a lot, and I do mean a lot, of different enemies so it’s not just a case of the same enemies turning up and fighting Dante. The boss battles are also pretty spectacular as each one has a certain theme.

One area of the game that occasionally frustrated me though was the platforms. During these sequences Dante runs and jumps between platforms, and I found that after a while it became a little tedious – primarily because at times it was really difficult to make the jump because of camera angles and other elements. Every time I thought I had made the jump I seemed to just miss it and have to start again. I did however find myself getting better at it as time went on though.

ScreenShot000028 ScreenShot000054

There is a lot of music in the game, and I can see it being an area that you either love, hate or tolerate. Although it certainly takes a little getting used to!

There are many different difficulty levels you can play in the game – Human (which is the easy level), Devil Hunter (which is medium) and finally there is Nephilin (which is the hard difficulty level). There are also a number of others that are even harder.

I have played the first ten levels and I have to say that I did enjoy it, a lot – I am continuing on with it for the full review, but for now I will say that both Capcom and Ninja Theory have a dark, but fun fighting game worthy of the DmC name – so for those people out there who were concerned about this reboot, don’t be!

Mad Catz announce their GameSmart technology initiative

Mad Catz have announced GameSmart, a technology initiative that moves smart devices one step closer to delivering a core gaming experience similar to a gaming console or gaming computer.

GameSmart-p1

GameSmart control products will function through the Bluetooth® Smart stack, will be game and hardware independent, and will have a smart device app to provide additional functionality. By utilizing Bluetooth Smart, GameSmart devices will feature simplified setup, longer battery life and universal compatibility. In addition, GameSmart offers game developers and game publishers standardization, ease of implementation and scalability when enabling controller and console-like accessory functionality in mobile games.

“Smart devices have made considerable inroads in delivering all forms of entertainment including games, music, movies, books, and social media. Mobile gaming is a vibrant and exciting space and we don’t see controller-based games replacing touch screen games, we expect them to enhance and enlarge the smart device gaming experience to include the living room experience. There are a number of point-to-point solutions in the market today that provide proof of concept, but the industry needs an agnostic operating system solution to provide standardization, ease of implementation and scalability,” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. “With our long history in the gaming industry, Mad Catz has the technical capability, product breadth, global distribution, and developer and publisher relationships that uniquely position our company to make this ambitious initiative a success. We believe the GameSmart initiative fits perfectly with our long-term strategy of designing innovative products for passionate gamers.”

Mad Catz intends to launch a full range of GameSmart products, including game controllers, gaming mice, gaming keyboards, headsets, and other specialty controllers. The GameSmart products will also be app-enabled to provide additional functionality. The first wave of GameSmart products will be announced at CES 2013 and are expected to launch shortly thereafter.

We will be meeting with Mad Catz and will bring you more information when we have it.

I wonder what it will be tomorrow?

CES 2013 is next week

Its that time of the year again – next week sees CES back in Las Vegas, and as usual CDW will be there to cover it.

ces_logo_thumb1

This is our 6th year at CES, and every year we see amazing new technology, also things that are far too expensive but we would love to own, and usually lots of weird and wacky things.

We will be there covering it all, so expect lots of news, previews and thoughts as the week progresses.

This is the first CES in 15 years that Microsoft haven’t been there – I hope that doesn’t mean the event will be less interesting, and certainly judging by the number of invites to press conference and parties that shouldn’t be the case.

So to make sure you get all your CES 2013 coverage, make sure you keep coming back to CDW, subscribe to our RSS feed, follow us on Twitter, check out our YouTube channel or subscribe to our newsletter – the choice is yours.

And if there is something you want to us to look at give us a shout and we will do our best to cover it.

Let the madness begin!
