Nikon today unveils four new additions to its range of COOLPIX cameras, including an expert in underwater photography: the robust AW110 outdoor camera, which can be taken to a depth of 18 metres and offers Wi-Fi for sharing experiences as they happen.

Meanwhile, the waterproof, shockproof and dustproof 10-megapixel S31 is a sturdy yet simple camera that the whole family can use. Finally, two new L series cameras, the L27 and L28, make capturing quality images and movies effortless.

The AW110 – Ready to capture the great outdoors

Designed to capture and share all the action, the AW110 is just as prepared for adventure as you are. Whether it’s in your hand, mounted to a surfboard, clipped on a backpack or attached to a scuba tank, every twist, splash, dive and crash can be recorded in crisp pictures or Full HD (1080p) movies. A 16-megapixel back illuminated CMOS sensor, NIKKOR wide-angle 5x zoom lens and a 7.5-cm (3-in) 614k-dot OLED monitor comes in a tough compact body that is dustproof, waterproof to depths of 18m, shockproof from heights of up to 2m and freeze-proof for temperatures down to -10°C.

Friends and family can be kept up to date with all your latest escapades, thanks to built-in Wi-Fi which transfers pictures and videos directly to a smart device, for easy uploading. In keeping with the needs of an adventurous photographer, a raft of features ensures the AW110 is optimized for the great outdoors. GPS enables geotagging of images, so you can easily track and tell others where your pictures were taken, whilst an electronic compass and a world map help you to orientate yourself and plot a route. An altimeter records the exact altitude at which you take a shot (range: -300 m to 4,500 m) and a hydro-barometer measures underwater depth (range: 0 to -20 m).

Designed to make sure you can capture the action when you are right in the middle of it, rather than standing on the sidelines, a handy Action Control feature means you can adjust camera settings by swinging the camera from side to side, so that operation is easy even when underwater or wearing thick gloves.

As is typical of a Nikon camera, the image quality offered by the AW110 is second to none. The highly sensitive 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and dedicated low light modes combine to deliver stunning results in bright sunlight, at night or underwater. High ISO (up to 3200) light sensitivity reduces the risk of blurred images with fast-moving subjects or in low light, while Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically selects the sharpest of up to 10 sequential shots. Waterproof down to a depth of 5 metres, shockproof from up to 1.2 metres height and dustproof, it is built for active use at home and on holiday, and encourages capturing pictures from new places, such as in the pool or on the beach.
