Some screenshots has just been released of video game documentary-maker, TV writer and satirist Charlie Brooker’s character in the upcoming Sniper Elite 3, as part of the bonus material available to those who pre-order their copy ahead of the official launch in the UK on 27th June.
Oxford-based developers Rebellion, and creators of the Sniper Elite series, have released exclusive images of Brooker, presenter of ‘How Videogames Changed the World’ in his role as a enemy soldier in the highly anticipated World War II strategic shooter game.
Charlie Brooker debuts as a German field officer in Hitler’s entourage – his character and level are part of the special downloadable content package called “Hunt the Grey Wolf”, which gamers can access if they pre-order the game in the next 2 days. Brooker’s character follows and salutes Hitler throughout the level and – like all other enemy characters – can have his internals shredded by a sniper bullet, all captured by the game’s signature X-ray KillCam. It’s believed that Rebellion has included a secret achievement in the level to encourage gamers to assassinate Brooker’s character as creatively as possible.
Brooker underwent full motion capture in April at the Rebellion HQ to create his digital-self along with a voice recording that has been included in-game. The recording will play as radio transmissions sent by UK intelligence on hidden radios throughout the bonus level.
The latest chapter in the award-winning series co-developed by Rebellion and international games publisher 505 Games, Sniper Elite 3 takes players to the heart of the WWII conflict in the deadly, exotic territory of North Africa in 1942. The game centres on Allied attempts to sabotage the development of Nazi super weapons in the Western Desert, pitting a lone OSS agent against the might of Germany’s Afrika Korps and ferocious Tiger Tanks.
Sniper Elite 3 is out Friday 27th June on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC via Steam.
