A Closer Look

Final Thoughts

The K7 is a lot more compact than you might expect and it sits really nicely on a desk. The all-aluminium chassis feels very solid and well made, and the slight 5° angle means you can easily see the screen and reach the controls without having to lean over.

Setting the K7 up is really straightforward. Plug it in, connect it to your PC or Mac with the supplied USB cable and you are pretty much good to go. If you want to use it with a PS5 or Nintendo Switch you just change over to the UAC 1.0 mode and it works without any fuss.

There are plenty of connection options – USB-C, optical, coaxial and Bluetooth with aptX HD and aptX Low Latency – so you can hook up pretty much anything, from your computer to your TV to your phone. Bluetooth pairing is quick and simple and it is handy for when you just want to stream some music from your phone.

You also get a choice of 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm outputs for your headphones as well as RCA outputs, so you can use the K7 to feed a pair of powered speakers or an amplifier too.

The sound quality is excellent, with music coming through clean and detailed no matter what you are listening to, and there is no background hiss or noise to spoil things. With up to 2100mW on tap there is plenty of power and the K7 has no problem driving harder-to-drive headphones.

The bass and treble knobs are a really nice touch – you can quickly add a bit more punch or brighten things up without having to dig through any software, and if you want the sound exactly as it was intended you can just switch to Bypass mode.

Gamers are well looked after too. You can plug in a headset microphone, adjust its level independently and mute it with a single tap, and the 1.5-inch display shows you exactly what is going on at a glance.

The Fosi Audio K7 Desktop DAC Headphone Amplifier is available now priced around £189.99 and comes in either Black or Satin Silver.
