Technical aspects.
The 4K A900 ULTRA HDR Set offers up to 30 FPS on the front camera and 25 FPS for the rear with 4K resolution. This frame rate may sound disappointing, but I wasn’t too worried. The clarity of the picture was my biggest concern, and the impressive lens and sensors work in harmony to generate the cleanest images around. The footage can be viewed on the large display, but I found it easier to use the free-to-download app. Here, you can store any essential footage and send it directly to the police or your insurance company.
You can adjust the settings if you do not need such high resolution, but I found the provided memory card and the auto rollover recording to work perfectly. If you’re unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident or your car is hit overnight, the camera automatically locks the footage and provides you with a healthy viewing window to gather all relevant evidence. This was handy, as you never lost any key data.
Other dash cams offer a poor rear-facing device. The result is footage that looks washed out when the sun is low, or rain is falling. Thankfully, this camera suffers from neither of these problems. Additionally, the Starvis 2 sensor, Night Owl Vision, Lumi Vision, and f/1.8 and f/1.6 apertures work incredibly well at night. I watched back different low-light scenarios, and I was impressed by the clarity and how easy it was to read registration plates. Furthermore, I gave my car a little bit of a heavy push to see how the camera reacted. It recorded me perfectly, and there is no way I’d have gotten away with any illegal activity.
AI technology as it should be.
AI is big business, and the risk to humanity is becoming clearer. However, 70mai utilises it to great effect. The AI motion detection 2.0 is the ideal tool to reduce unwanted footage. Furthermore, it successfully identifies danger to your vehicle and captures the relevant footage. Although this may seem pretty straightforward, it is an extremely useful feature that prevents you from having to work through hours of unwanted footage.
Consider someone approaching your car and hanging around it. This could be innocent behaviour, but the AI motion detection would consider this a risk and start recording. This could capture someone wishing to damage your car or worse. The result is someone caught in the act of breaking the law.
Usability.
The 4K A900 ULTRA HDR Set is an extremely easy-to-set-up device that can be mastered by the greatest of technophobes. Installing it into your vehicle was a cinch, and hiding the almost never-ending wiring was easy. I’ve mounted a few of these cameras now, so maybe experience helps, but even with little technical know-how, I wouldn’t struggle to get this dash cam set installed.
The free-to-download app is fantastic. The UI is intuitive, and working through your footage, connecting to the camera, and deleting unwanted footage was a simple operation. Although you may be new to dash cams, you’ll be up and running in no time with this amazing device.
Night recording.
The aforementioned nighttime tools make the 4K A900 ULTRA HDR Set an impressive option for darkness and poor weather recording. The huge F/1.8 and F/1.6 Apertures allow more light to enter the lens for guaranteed lighting clarity. When combined with the market-leading sensors, you reduce horrible overexposure, poor clarity, and the ability to read street signs and car registration plates. Furthermore, you capture every detail of the person involved, the colour of their vehicle, and every element that caused each incident to occur.
Build quality.
I was not surprised that the 4K A900 ULTRA HDR Set is an extremely well-designed tool. Both cameras are big enough to do their jobs, but small enough to reduce distractions. The easy-to-hide cabling is durable but not big enough to cause issues when you hide it in the trim of your car. Moreover, the hardwire kit is easy to install, but I recommend an expert if you are lacking in confidence.
Every mount is durable, and the high-tensile nature of the materials and the glue ensure that the cameras will remain mounted during extreme weather conditions. Talking of extreme conditions, the supercapacitor enables the device to run in some of the harshest conditions. Your dash cam will not freeze, nor will it melt when the temperature is turned up. This is vital as we are experiencing some extreme year-round weather. Thankfully, this device will withstand them all.
