I absolutely love anything from Epomaker! This company offer some of the best mechanical keyboards that money can buy. Furthermore, they have a fantastic range of gaming mice as well. As such, when they offered me the RT85 keyboard, I couldn’t resist. I’ve recently looked at the RT82 keyboard, and I adored it. As such, I had high hopes when this landed on my desk.
This compact device moves slightly away from the traditional RT series approach. Instead of a large data screen, this keyboard has a smaller built-in display. Although this isn’t as eye-catching as other devices from the series, I loved it nonetheless. On top of this, the keyboard has hot-swappable switches, incredible build quality, accurate inputs, and it is versatile.
The tri-mode connectivity is wonderful. Whether you work from home or you commute, this device has you covered. With a wireless, Bluetooth, and wired connection, this device will suit many gamers and workers. Furthermore, it is unbelievably easy to use. Accordingly, this is a plug-and-play peripheral that can be customised using the Epomaker software.

Technical aspects.
Gaming via wired or wireless connectivity is a must for many people. If you opt for wireless gaming, you’ll have concerns about battery life. Thankfully, the huge 8,000 mAh battery capacity offers over 24 hours of gaming prowess. Alternatively, this can increase vastly if you turn off the RGB. As such, you can choose whatever works for you. If you play using the Bluetooth functionality, you can connect up to 3 devices at once. This seamless transitioning between profiles was fantastic.
If you choose to play with a wired connection or the USB dongle, you’ll enjoy 1000 Hz polling. This rapid responsive arrangement is perfect if you love to type or play fast-paced games. Alternatively, if you use the Bluetooth function, the polling drops to 125 Hz. Although this is still suitable for many tasks, elite gamers will need that match-winning edge.
Hot-swapping switches is big business. The RT85 keyboard allows you to remove the provided switches for any compatible 5-pin switches. The provided Wisteria switches deliver comfortable actuation and responsive inputs. Consequently, I didn’t need to swap them.
If you love to game, but you fancy something different, this device has a joystick located by the arrow keys. This was a little quirky and unusual, but it was a joy to use. I’m not sure everyone will love this option, but it can be ignored if it’s not for you.

Usability.
If you love to remap your keyboard, you can do so with ease. The free-to-download software allows you to remap keys, plan macros, adjust RGB settings, edit the layout, and customise the screen. I used the software repeatedly, and I loved its intuitive design and user-friendly approach.
The data screen is a nice addition to the keyboard. It displays key information for your PC and is handy as a quick point of reference if things are going wrong. Alternatively, you may install custom images and animations to add a little flair. Either way, it is a nice touch that is bound to impress.

Build quality.
Epomaker makes quality products that are real head turners. The RT series looks amazing because of its retro style. The RT85 keyboard follows suit with its off-colour housing and vibrant keycaps. Furthermore, the data screen juxtaposes this without being obnoxious or ruining the vibe.
The plastic case and PBT keycaps are designed with durability and longevity in mind. Subsequently, the colours will not fade, and you will not have to endure that awful shiny, greasy finish. If you wish to remove the keycaps, this can be done with ease. Moreover, the switches can be removed with no technical prowess.
If you love a strong mechanical soundscape, you’ll adore this keyboard. The 5 layers of acoustic dampening are combined with the creamy gasket mount. The result is a dreamy soundscape with that delightful clacky, mechanical sound.
Is the RT85 keyboard worth it?
Getting yourself a retro-inspired keyboard is a real treat. It adds flair, character, and a conversation starter to your gaming rig. Additionally, this device delivers high-end tech without undermining the dated finish. I love the durability, the versatility, and the incredible aesthetic. Accordingly, it is fantastic, and I recommend buying it here!
