Another year and another fine PJ Masks title! PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance will drive parents and adult gamers to distraction. However, this is not its key demographic as my children have proved. The repetitive sound bites and simple gameplay mechanics drove me nuts. Yet, my kids adored the rudimentary approach and the familiar characters. Furthermore, the interesting stage design and minor gameplay variations kept them playing for hours.

This colourful action-adventure title was developed by Petoons Studio Ltd and published by Outright Games. Moreover, it may surprise you to hear that this is a single-player experience. I was shocked when my kids couldn’t team up and explore the vibrant world together. However, this feeling of disappointment soon dissipated as they explored claustrophobic caverns whilst leaping over chasms and destroying creatures.

PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance tells a story of teamwork.

PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance has evolved nicely since PJ Masks Heroes of the Night. This latest edition retains many of the key mechanics, but it adds an array of new characters and some minor twists to the well-structured gameplay loop. Accordingly, if your kids have played its predecessor, they will feel right at home.

A big accident occurs and gems and parts of the PJ Masks base are scattered across the world. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, the trio of heroes must create an alliance with another band of superheroes. Yet, this new group is still under pressure as Romeo, Luna Girl, and Night Ninja do their best to thwart their plans. Thankfully, though, An Yu, Newton Star, Ice Cub, Lilyfay, and Bastet offer enough power to tackle the threat and save the day.

A simple gameplay loop.

Each adventure level utilises a side-scrolling approach. As you explore, you must avoid obstacles whilst enjoying some basic platforming action. Additionally, you will collect gems, masks, and a present as you search every dark and eerie corner. Alongside this, you must use your skills and abilities to destroy boxes and solve simple puzzles.

Each stage has a set number of crystals to gather and collectables to find. Luckily, progress isn’t hindered by missing either of these objects. Consequently, this is perfect if your youngsters simply wish to explore and enjoy the dramatic story. Alternatively, if you or your children have a slight OCD nature when it comes to collectables, you will be tested as you search high and low and smash every box you encounter.

Non-violent action.

Alongside the side-scrolling action, you must undertake a basic vehicular stage. During this straightforward mission, you will move the vehicle across 3 lanes. As you weave around road signs and other debris, you will collect gems, leap over ramps, and boost your speed. Furthermore, you will search for collectables and that is about it.

None of the quests is challenging and there is no risk of death or failure. Moreover, there is little to no violence and there isn’t an ounce of blood or crass writing to be seen or heard. This wasn’t a surprise, as Outright Games is a family-friendly publisher. Consequently, I enjoyed the safe environment and the wonderfully basic gameplay.

PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance looks great.

If you have kids under the age of 10, then PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance will look and feel familiar. The vibrant colours, cutscenes, and character models are all spot on. The stage designs are also interesting, even if they all follow a similar pattern. On top of this, the animation is smooth and I liked the simple special powers.

The audio is just as good. The acting is accurate, and the dialogue follows a traditional superhero model. However, the sound bites are somewhat annoying and can quickly become repetitive. Moreover, if your kids lack some skills, you will hear the same string of helpful hints repeatedly. Subsequently, you may have to close your ears or bite your tongue.

Excellent controls.

I love how easy this was to play. Every element is well explained and the button layout lacks complexity. Alongside this, the inputs are responsive and my youngest could tackle many of the problems with little help from myself or her older siblings.

This has some replay value and longevity thanks to the large list of collectables. However, adults will quickly become bored when they experience the same core loop repeatedly. Younger gamers, on the other hand, will adore the familiar approach and the excellent PJ Masks madness.

PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance is a great addition to the franchise.

I love a safe and fun child-friendly title. PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance ticks all of these boxes with its colourful graphics and cheesy dialogue. Additionally, the plot is zany and OTT, and the characters will make you smile. Accordingly, this is perfect for your kids and I recommend buying it here! Can you pick up the pieces after the big accident? Explore each stage, find every collectable, and save the day.
