Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission is a cute and adorable educational title. As such, this won’t appeal to a large audience. However, if you have young children in your life, this is the perfect opportunity to tackle a game together. Alternatively, if you love the ocean and have a thirst for knowledge, this will appeal to you.

This educational adventure title was developed by Magic Pockets and published by Microids. What’s more, this colourful journey is laced with magic and mystery. Sadly, though, it is somewhat repetitive, and this undermines its replay value and longevity.

Your dolphin friend is key in Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission.

Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission tells an unbelievable tale.

Your holiday to see your grandfather was meant to be a relaxing endeavour. Yet unbeknownst to you, the island hides many secrets. On top of that, your grandfather knows more than he’s letting on. As such, he’s your guide as you unravel every mystery.

The story is beautifully intertwined with the educational aspects. The gameplay revolves around an ecological team that is tasked with protecting the island. However, these do-gooders are horribly overwhelmed when a storm wreaks havoc with their island. Consequently, you are asked to help clean up the mess and save the local wildlife.

Recycling and cleaning.

The main component of Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission is the educational element. Accordingly, as you discover new species or undertake different tasks, a factsheet highlights all the key information. This was fascinating if you are environmentally minded. Furthermore, it added depth and some realism to an otherwise fantasy experience.

The action revolves around repetitive and mindless tasks. However, they were oddly rewarding and extremely relaxing. Subsequently, I never tired of what I was doing. Whether you are exploring the island or diving in the sea, the tasks remain the same. Effectively, each area is broken down into smaller components. Here, you are expected to photograph the wildlife, collect rubbish, help sick animals, and complete an array of missions.

Disappointingly, though, each of these tasks is easy to undertake. As such, it is perfect for younger gamers, but far too easy for older players. Consequently, it would have been better had the developers incorporated an accessibility mode. If this had happened, the game would have been more challenging.

Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission was a little rough around the edges.

Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission is bright, colourful, and eye-catching. However, it wasn’t as polished as I wanted. Except for the cutscenes, many of the textures were rough and the world occasionally felt flat. This problem impacted your movements, and you’d get stuck in the scenery. Yet, if you ignore these problems, you’ll love the varied arenas and the different creatures you encounter.

The audio was sickeningly wholesome! The upbeat soundtrack is lighthearted and inspirational. Furthermore, it is wonderfully juxtaposed with some sombre and dramatic moments. Subsequently, each poignant part of the story is told brilliantly.

The hero learns a new skill by touching one of the totems.

Great for kids.

Microids are renowned for their child-friendly titles. Luckily, this is no different. Thanks to the amazing control set-up, you don’t need to assist your kids in any way. Accordingly, you can sit back and watch them having a glorious time.

Where this is lacking, though, is its replay value and longevity. Unfortunately, the repetitive gameplay will put some people off. Additionally, the lack of a challenge will drive some people crazy. However, if you like simple tasks that are easy to follow, you’ll probably search for every piece of trash and sick creature you can find.

Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission isn’t for everyone.

Niche games are more commonplace than ever before. Therefore, I’m not worried about the limited appeal of this game. Instead, I know that Dolphin Spirit: Ocean Mission will be loved by its key demographic. Accordingly, I enjoyed it and I recommend that you buy it here! Can you save the day and uncover the secrets of the island? Help the locals, save the animals, and learn many new facts along the way.
