Video-on-demand and streaming services feel like they have been around forever. Consequently, many of us take them for granted and rarely think of the technology behind it. Furthermore, whether you are using a smart TV, a streaming box, or a Fire Stick, they all do similar jobs. As such, why would you upgrade your tried and tested method for something new? In short, you’d only look to move on if you are having issues. For many of us, buffering and poor 4K quality are daily problems. As such, if this sounds familiar, maybe it’s time to purchase the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

This incredibly affordable device comes jam-packed with features and has a brilliant Alexa remote thrown in for good measure. Moreover, it is easy to set up and has a phenomenal UI that is sleek and easy to navigate. Alongside this, it is future-proofed thanks to its compatibility with Wi-Fi 6. Accordingly, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max looks to be the most powerful streaming stick to date.

What’s in the box of the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max?

  • The small box is covered in key selling points and relevant imagery. This recyclable packaging is lightweight, but the contents are well packaged.
  • The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is compact and has the Amazon logo printed on the side. The sleek plastic finish is familiar and looks like previous Fire Sticks.
  • A HDMI extender. You can conveniently extend the HDMI port with this rigid cable.
  • A power cable and USB-A plug. This device needs an external power source to work correctly.
  • The user guide. Study the fundamentals to have a smooth setup experience.

Technical aspects.

What makes the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max stand out from its peers is its excellent UHD performance and its future-proofed technology. Additionally, like the original 4K stick, this focuses on complete HDR support. As such, you’ll enjoy HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Digital Plus as standard. Moreover, you can utilise the live picture-in-picture option and this was a pleasant surprise. Previously, this feature was only available on the vastly more expensive Fire TV Cube, so this was an excellent move.

Wi-Fi 6 may not be a term that you are familiar with. However, this next-gen solution ensures that your streaming service is stronger and more reliable. Yet, to use this feature, you must have a compatible router. There are plenty of options available and depending on the location of your router, you may not need to take this step just yet. If you do struggle with a weak Wi-Fi connection, you may wish to consider these options: the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX6000, the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX11000, the Reyee RG-E5, or the Amazon eero Pro 6 mesh Wi-Fi 6 router system.

Setting up the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

If you are already an Amazon customer, every aspect of the setup will be a breeze. Thanks to the use of a QR system, the device is registered to your account in moments. Alongside this, you are free to install and download any apps that take your fancy. This extremely user-friendly approach can be enjoyed by even the biggest technophobes.

The step-by-step guide focuses on your Wi-Fi connection, your account, and the items that you want. Once you finish the initial tutorial, your device will automatically update to ensure a smooth and trouble-free experience. The only complexity I ran into was when I was logging into third-party apps. However, this wasn’t unusual, and it isn’t a reflection of how easy this device is to set up.

Usability.

Whenever I watch TV, I don’t want a cumbersome experience. Thankfully, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is so intuitive that you can’t go wrong. With a clean and easy-to-follow UI, you can flit between your apps with ease. Furthermore, the simple tabs of Home, Find, and Live make it comfortable to work with. Alongside this, you can select any downloaded apps and see recommended programs or continue viewing your favourite series.

The usability is improved thanks to the incredible Alexa remote. For the purpose of this review, I was provided with an additional Alexa Pro remote. This next-level device enhances your experience further because of some key features. The backlit buttons make using this remote much easier in the dark. Moreover, the “Find my Remote” tool was incredibly handy. By logging into your Alexa app or using your Fire Stick, you can get your remote to emit a high-pitched beeping sound. Additionally, there are 2 customisable buttons to create helpful shortcuts to your favourite apps or TV shows. You can also use Alexa to search for apps or programs, connect wireless headphones for a simpler Bluetooth connection, and there are integrated TV controls.

Is the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max worth it?

The streaming marketplace is saturated! Consequently, picking the right device for you isn’t that easy. Do you go for a non-HD device to save money, or do you push the boat out and select something really expensive? The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is available for £64.99. As such, it sits in the perfect spot of not being the cheapest and not being the most expensive. However, its feature-packed setup wipes the floor with its competitors. What’s more, the incredible UI and fantastic Alexa remote are game-changers.

Thanks to the amazing UHD performance, the future-proofed Wi-Fi connection, and the straightforward setup, this has to be the streaming device of choice. Yes, it may not look as attractive as its counterparts, but it’s hidden behind your TV, so who cares? Moreover, the requirement for an external power source will annoy some users, but this is a small price to pay for a powerful streaming option. Accordingly, I adored this spectacular device and I recommend that you buy it here!
