Last weekend saw PLAY EXPO return to Manchester for the 3rd time and we were there to take it all in.
This is how PLAY EXPO was described:
“Five themed zones bringing you the best in modern games, classic games, tournaments, Cosplay and Film/ TV. Add in game previews, special guests and talks, photoshoots, Indie games, card and board games, movie props, YouTubers, celebrity signings and photo-shoots, plus more arcade and pinball than anywhere else in the UK!”
Event City is a large area, and PLAY EXPO filled it’s chosen hall to the brim with lots to see and do. We walked around the show for the day, and here are some of our highlights.
There were lots of retro games to play, including hand-held games like Scramble and displays showing retro computers.
There was even Hungry Hippos!
ARCADE GAMES AND PINBALL
If you wanted to play some pinball or play on some retro arcade games, there were lots to choose from, and they were all free to play!
It wasn’t just retro gaming, you could also have a play on some brand new games like Dark Souls III.
There were a number of Indie games to play, including Unbox, which we love.
There were a number of tables set up for people to play board games – it was nice to see so many people playing them!
Cosplay is a huge part of PLAY Expo with hundreds of attendees dressing up, giving talks and even having a show on the main stage.
There were plenty of stands selling everything from retro gaming consoles and games, to t-shirts and posters, and yes, even that one you see at every event that sells engraved bullets!
The rumour that we purchased an Iron Man statue may or may not be true – ok, it’s true, we couldn’t help ourselves!
Throughout the weekend various celebrities were on hand to sign autographs and meet their fans. Our favourite was Darth Vader himself, David Prowse!
You could even have your photo taken with a dinosaur!
There were numerous talks throughout the weekend, our favourite one was with The Oliver Twins.
All in all we can recommend going to PLAY Expo as a fun day out for all the family. There is plenty to do and see, and get involved in. We can’t wait for the next one! We may see you there.
