Stormtroopers and R2-D2 joined a young Star Wars fan dressed as Princess Leia – Daisy, aged 8 at the Disney Store on Oxford Street to begin the final countdown to midnight tonight, when the much anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens product line launches on ‘Force Friday’ 4th September.

The costumed characters from the 501st UK Garrison appeared at the Disney Store’s Star Wars-themed opening key ceremony, which also saw the front of the Oxford Street store ‘unboxed’ for trading to mimic the global live toy unboxing event taking place on the Star Wars YouTube channel.

Now live and unfolding over 18 hours in 15 cities and 12 countries, the world’s first-ever global live toy unboxing event  highlights the range of epic merchandise revealed to fans in a rolling New Year’s Eve style celebration featuring top digital stars from the Maker Studios network. The live stream kicked off in Sydney, Australia yesterday evening at 10:45 p.m. BST, with the UK unboxing taking place today at 11:30 a.m. BST.

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys, collectibles, gadgets, apparel and more officially hitting shelves tonight at 12:01 a.m., a variety of UK and Irish retailers are inviting fans to line up outside their doors, including Disney Store, Toys “R” Us, Smyths, Forbidden Planet and more.

In London, a flagship event will be held at Disney Store on Oxford Street, where fans in Star Wars fancy dress can start lining up at 8:00 p.m. later this evening. Then at 12:01 a.m., the Disney Store will open its doors for fans to experience its galactic line-up of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise – with an exclusive theme pin and other giveaways, as well as an in-store competition and product demos.
