I’m interested in the signal strength; look under Status and WLAN Statistics and you’ll see this.
This is good enough signal strength to help support better connectivity in my home office dead spot; that laptop now sees full bars and no dropped connections when connecting wirelessly. Success!
While I am logged in here, I want to change the password for the extender. Remember we logged in with admin/admin; I want to change that password to something not default. Click on Administration then Management. You’ll see this screen:
Just enter a new password, confirm it and click Save Settings.
Enter your new password. The extender will reboot.
Once done rebooting, you’ll be back here:
Voila! Range extender password has been reset!

The RE2000, when placed in a bedroom right over the home office, allowed for a much stronger signal in the home office and even on the front and rear porches. This particular extender connected on the 2.4GHz band, which is N-only, and provided enough throughput for streaming standard definition video, handling web surfing and emailing. At $79.99 direct from Linksys, this is a good way to handle some dead spots in your wireless coverage while not breaking the bank. Installation was pretty easy, and I was up and running in 25 minutes or so. If you are having coverage problems and can’t relocate your router, give the Linksys RE2000 wireless extender a try!
