At a recent event I had the opportunity to play some of Carbine Studio’s new sci-fi MMO Wildstar. I also had the chance to talk with Stephan Frost, the game director all about it.

In the interview we talk about Wildstar and what it is, where its set, the four character paths, housing, combat and much more. And there is some new gameplay in there too, including footage I captured on the day.

Over to Stephan, and enjoy the new gameplay:

I really enjoyed my time with Wildstar – I found that there was so much to do and explore and in the really short time I had I was already engrossed in the world, and I for one cannot wait to go back and continue my adventures on the planet Nexus.

Wildstar will be released on the PC later this year, and there will be a beta before that, so watch this space.

You can learn more about Wildstar and sign up for the beta on their website.

  1. Also so happy they went with NCsoft, ncsoft usually makes games extremely fair for the gamer and doesn’t require you to purchase stuff to have the content of the game available to you <3

    • I’d rather pay Carbine directly via a sub than to go through the publisher. I hear that, at least for the GW2 item store, the funds goes back to NCsoft, which in turn would go to any of the three, soon to be four, games they control….

At least the item store isn’t P2W?

      • I’ve been thinking about this that ncsoft and uses it for other games…

While i agree that the money you spend on the game is to expand on that specific game but overall every company does that. You buy their products and they make content not only to the game you bought or bought whatever from but also expanding other games.

While i don’t like Aion that much but i want it to grow still since other people enjoy it. It’s not like NCsoft uses the money it makes from certain games use it all on other games and this also happens the other way around. If Aion makes money, so will Wildstar. Look at it this way. The money from Guild Wars 2 is ALSO used for expanding Wildstar and vice versa.

But people are now angry also because Guild Wars 2 has subpar story content coming out and they blame NCsoft for ”not giving arenanet enough money so they would make better content” which is wrong. Terribly wrong in my opinion. I just fail to see this at work. If they can make these story contents, release more content overall every month AND expand their world as we speak, i just fail to see how they are not getting the funding. In my opinion, arenanet is just focusing on the wrong aspects of the game. Which is casual, RNG loot drops and very little roles in classes which takes away every bit of verstile away from the classes you play with..

What i’m is that basically with this system all games benefit from each other. Guild Wars 2, Wildstar or Aion, all support each other with their own funds.

Hey, at least NCsoft tries to keep their mmo’s up and i seriously doubt they are stupid enough to jeopardize their more revenue generating game to a less one.

Don’t know how the system REALLY works, maybe ncsoft is a run buy a bunch of tools but honestly, the way i see it, it’s not that bad. Not like World of Warcraft making 100 000 000 a month and still takes Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 frikken 5 years to develop. Not to mention Diablo 3 sucked (again, my opinion) and while starcraft is cool and all, it’s still pretty much the same old RTS game that we’ve seen before from Blizzard before.

Let’s be honest, they could’ve made something bigger and better. Instead all the money from WoW went to the pockets of the big boys instead of really focusing on other games and making World of Warcraft actually a BETTER GAME rather than a money making machine.

        Whoa… wall of text.. 😐

  2. Dont wanna jinx but by saying this is a you-know-what killer. But this is really what I have wanted for the past 5 years! 😀 Settler ofcourse, I F-ing love building stuff

  3. Excelent interview ! i’m expecting WildStar to become one of the main MMO in the world ! Keep doing
