Google is expected to release the next generation Nexus 7 tablet as early as June. KGI Securities analyst Mingchu Kuo claims that Google is preparing to announce the device at the I/O conference next week, with a sale date of June or July, reports 9to5Google.
The Asus-built tablet is said to be keeping its original price tag with a range of added extras. The 7inch screen will increase from 1,280×800 pixels to 920×1,200 and will include a 5-megapixel camera. Wireless charging is also thought to be introduced.
It is also claimed that the Nexus 7 will slim down to around 7.5-8.5mm, making it slightly larger than the iPad Mini’s 7.2mm.
“We are positive on Nexus 7’s reception ahead of the iPad mini 2 launch given that the specs have been upgraded but the price has not been increased,” Kuo said.
“However, tablet PC competition has become much fiercer this year, so we reckon new Nexus 7 year-on-year shipments growth will be limited.”
In other advances at Google, Kuo suggested that the company is working on a Google TV device and a smart watch, although the watch will not be in mass production until at least next year.
