An alleged Microsoft internal email appears to suggest that the next Xbox will not require a constant internet connection. According to ArsTechnica, the email was sent to “all full-time employees working on the next Xbox” and dispels rumours that the new console will need to be permanently connected to a network.
It read: “Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today’s Internet.
“There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should ‘just work’ regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”
The email also appears to confirm that the new Xbox will be designed to support live TV viewing.
Microsoft recently registered a host of web domains including the word ‘Fusion’, sparking rumours that it will be the name of the upcoming console.
