Earlier this week Apple released the OS X 10.6.6 update which included the new App Store.

Actually there were a number of updates along with the 10.6.6 update, including an update to iMovie, bringing that to 9.0.1.

Here is what Apple says about this new update:
The Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac. It also includes the Mac App Store, the best way to discover and buy new apps for your Mac. The Mac App Store, a new application you’ll find in the Dock, includes the following features:
- Discover Mac apps: Browse featured apps, top charts, and categories, or search for something specific. Read detailed app descriptions and user reviews, and flip through screen shots.
- Buy and install: Easily purchase apps with your iTunes account. Apps install in one step and are quickly available from the Dock.
- App updates: The Mac App Store keeps track of all your purchased apps and notifies you when free updates are available.

The App Store is basically the same functionality you are used to if you have an iPhone.

I found that for the first two days that the App Store was very slow, although that could have been because I was here in Vegas for CES and had an awful connection wherever I was!
So, what do you think of the new update and App Store?

I received an e-mail offering Leap2 from Ironic Software for 58% off or only $29. What a deal so I purchased it. After updating SL with the new Mac App Store that apparently is the new price there. Now I have the new program, but none of the features offered by the app store. Check the app store before purchasing any new Mac softwre.
