Today Synology launched their new affordable, power-saving and easy to use file sharing and entertainment center – the USB Station 2.

USB Station 2 is designed to provide a cost-effective solution for USB storage sharing, multimedia center, and print server for home and small workgroup. The operating system, Synology DiskStation Manager 3.0, delivers rich features for multimedia enjoyments, Internet file sharing, budget print server, and energy-saving options.

Plug-and-Play File Sharing

USB Station 2 is ready to use right out of the box by simply plugging in any USB storage device. The built-in File Browser in Synology DiskStation Manager 3.0 (DSM 3.0) allows you to start sharing multimedia with family members or group projects with colleagues right away, with the ease of file navigation through a web browser. Sharing files among Windows, Mac, and Linux users highly increases the work efficiency in a platformmixed environment. USB Station 2 is completely fan-less with only 5W in operation. Not only does it reduce your carbon footprint, but it also helps create a noiseless home or working environment.

Your Own Entertainment Center

Download Station functions as a 24×7 BitTorrent, FTP, HTTP, eMule, and NZB download center without a PC. The eMule download engine allowssearch-n-download capability with a web-browser without installing additional desktop applications.
Audio Station supports music, Internet radio stations, and iPod playback with the optional speakers. An optional direction-free Synology Remote allows you to freely enjoy your music. Streaming mode allows your music to be shared with multiple users over the Intranet or Internet.
DS audio allows you to stream music stored on DiskStation to your iPhone®, iPod touch® or Android® phone wherever Internet access is available. You can enjoy terabytes of music anytime anywhere.
DLNA/UPnP Support allows you to stream multimedia files with an UPnP Digital Media Adapter (DMA) on a stereo system or a TV-set. Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox360 are also supported.
iTunes is an easy way to share music with other iTunes clients over the network. Password protection prevents unauthorized sharing.

USB Printer Sharing for Everyone

USB Station 2 supports up to two USB printers simultaneously. The USB printer sharing capability minimizes your cost by sharing printing resources throughout the home or the office. No professional IT personnel are required to set up the print server in your home or office, as the Add Printer Wizard simplifies setup process on your local computer.

Milton Keynes, England – October 5, 2010—Synology® Inc. today launched the new USB Station 2, an affordable and easy to use NAS server, featuring plug-and-play file sharing, multimedia content streaming, download without a PC and low power consumption of only 4W in operation, making it prefect for home to small office networks running multiplatform.

By simply plugging in any USB storage devices, USB Station 2 is ready to share files and multimedia content among Windows®, Mac and Linux, vastly increasing users’ work efficiency, yet decreasing IT administration cost. Synology’s groundbreaking File Browser feature delivers effortless and intuitive file sharing with the ease of file navigation in a web browser. USB Station 2 boasts versatile multimedia features that are available right out of the box. Other key multimedia applications are Download Station 2 that functions as a 24/7 download center without a PC; iTunes Server that allows users to share music and video with other iTunes clients over the network; and the DLNA certified media server that allows users to stream multimedia files to a DLNA/UPnP compatible devices, including DMA, TV-set, Sony® PS3 or Microsoft® Xbox360.
