First Look at the Lenovo IdeaCenter D400 Windows Home Server

A lovely box arrived this morning from Lenovo – the IdeaCenter D400 Windows Home Server. Don’t you just love Mondays!

The IdeaCenter D400 has an Intel Atom 230 Processor, comes with a 1GB of Memory, and either 1TB or 2TBs of storage depending on which of the two models you go for.

I’m going to start looking at the review shortly but for now take a look at the unboxing shots and at the unit itself.

  1. NIce, Andrew, please let me know what the orange RCA connector it the back is. Looks like a headphone jack. Usually an orange audio RCA means digital surround sound, but I doubt that. Also, is the front door flimsy ?

Just hoping here, but do you have a SansDigital 8 bay eSata external drive ? that you can check this this unit. I'm asking because of this post http://kamlau.com/software/sans-digital-towerraid
Can you compare some video encoding compression against your EX495. I'd like to see how the Atom compares to the Inter Dual Core,

From what I read, this unit is $100US more expensive than the Aspire, any indication why?

    Thanks,

    John.

    • Hi John

Its actually a reset button – its not orange I think its just the light in picture – sorry.

No, I dont have the 8 bay to try – would like on though 🙂

The D400 doesnt have any video encoding software built in, so it wouldnt really be a fair test.

As for the price difference, the only thing I could put my finger on would be the client software – take a look at the review I posted earlier.

      Andrew
