Here is how Drobo describe the PC Backup component:

All Drobos are excellent destinations for backup data. Not only are Drobos remarkably easy to use, but you can instantly and infinitely grow storage capacity, ensuring that you always have enough space to back up important data.

Backing up your PC to your Drobo is as easy as using Drobo. Now bundled with Drobo, Drobo S, Drobo FS, and Drobo B800fs.

Making Backup Easy

If you have just one computer that you need to back up, you can connect your Drobo or Drobo S directly to the computer using a USB, FireWire, or eSATA cable. Drobo PC Backup ensures that all of your valuable data is automatically backed up to your Drobo.

If you have a Drobo FS or a Drobo B800fs connected to your network, you can back up your computer to an available network share. A networked Drobo allows you to back up multiple computers to their own shares.

Fully Automated to Ensure You’re Always Protected

Drobo PC Backup automatically detects and backs up incremental file changes. A real plus for people on the move, the Plug & Protect feature detects when you connect your PC to your Drobo and automatically backs up all changes that occurred since the last connection.

Drobo PC Backup lets you automatically keep a secondary backup to protect against theft, fire, flood, or other natural disaster. You can easily choose to back up to one Drobo and simultaneously back up to a second Drobo or other external drive.
What About Backing Up my Mac?

Time Machine is the easiest backup solution for the Mac—it’s built in o the operating system. Direct-attached and file sharing Drobos support Time Machine.

Features

Go Back in Time

Drobo PC Backup enables you to travel back in time to find and recover changes made to your documents, photos, and other files. Imagine having a time machine for Windows that allows you to view the state of all your files at any point in time!

Partial File Incremental Backups

Drobo PC Backup backs up only the actual changes you make to a file – without backing up the entire file again every time you make a change, saving space on your Drobo so you can back up more.

Automatic Double Protection

Automatically make a secondary backup to protect against theft, fire, or loss of your backup drive. You can back up to one Drobo and then copy that data to another Drobo so you can take your backups offsite.

Continuous Data Protection

Highly tuned file-change-detection technology makes sure that you are protected at all times. When you edit a file, Drobo PC Backup automatically backs it up.

Back Up Open Files or Files in Use

Drobo PC Backup integrates with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) technology. This allows files that are currently open or in use, such as Outlook PST files, to be backed up automatically.

Back Up to Your Direct-Attached or Networked Drobo

Drobo PC Backup can back up the data on your computer to a direct-attached Drobo or Drobo S or a networked Drobo FS or Drobo B800fs.

Plug & Protect – A Bonus for People on the Move

The Plug & Protect feature detects when you connect the external drive to your computer and automatically backs up your files to an external drive without any action from you.

Supports Windows 7, Vista & XP

Backup works with Windows 7 and Vista (32 and 64 bit) and Windows XP (32 bit).
